I am not sure what took me so long to write this review, but I must say that I absolutely love these shoes! I bought them in early 2019 for a hiking trip to Spain (the Camino de Santiago) and have since used them extensively for hiking through the mountains and hills of California. Even though the tread on the soles is a little worn at this point, they're still as comfortable as they were on the first hike I took in them. I use orthotics for my flat feet and bought them a half-size bigger and they've been great! No blisters or hot spots ever! This is especially important due to the fact that my wife bought another brand for our Spain trip and had blisters after day two. I have had these for about a month and they a pretty good shoes. I use them as a hiking shoe and daily shoe. For hiking they have worked wel. They have plenty of grip and work well in loose stuff or mud. They are also light enough that I use them as a daily shoe. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that they feel loose around the heel. They don’t slip exactly they just feel loose. Could just be me, but I purchase la sportiva almost exclusively and this is the first shoe I have noticed it in. It has gotten better with time though. Anyway, happy with the shoe and brand. It would probably take some serious disappointments to let go of the brand.

I am not the most experienced outdoorsman, but I have put a few different brands through the ringer, from marathon training in trail running shoes to climbing the Grand Teton, for whatever that's worth. I have always liked La Sportiva, so I was thrilled to find these shoes on sale a few days before a trip I was planning to Mt Blanca.I only had time to put about 12-15 miles into the shoes, mostly on flat ground, before heading to southern Colorado. 10-15 miles doesn't seem like an adequate break in period to me personally, so naturally I was worried I'd end up with tape all over my feet by the end of the weekend, but I had to give them a shot. Again, I've had good experience with the brand.I have a relatively average size 11 foot, as far as I can tell. Again, I've had good experience with the brand.I have a relatively average size 11 foot, as far as I can tell. I would have liked the arch to be a little higher in the shoe, but then again no other competitive brand suits my weirdly high arches. I tried putting a high arch insole into the shoe, ended up putting the factory one back in. The only other La Sportiva shoes I've owned were climbing shoes and approach shoes, which both had somewhat cramped toe boxes, and I assume that's by design--for the intended purpose. I noticed my toes were snug in the toe box, not cramped, but far more snug than other brands of trail running/hiking shoes I'd tried. This, I noticed later in the steeper parts of the easy class 2 parts of Blanca, made me feel even more secure in my footwork, as if I were wearing climbing shoes that some how hadn't felt like climbing or approach shoes during the miles of hiking to get near the peak. An exquisite balance of comfort and performance in rocky, steep terrain. Also I should mention they lace up very well. There's probably some industry terms to describe the engineering of grommets or whatever that reduce the backslide of laces while attempting to tighten up your boot strings but I lack the jargon. Suffice to say, it's good. The only negative things I can mention, I can just as easily rationalize away, but here they are. Obviously the "Spire GTX" are constructed using Gore-Tex. Gore-Tex may be breathable, but you're feet do get warm. This was noticeable in the late Texas summer, but not much of a problem at 11,000-14,000 feet in the Southern Rockies. Also the narrow toe box made down hiking a little uncomfortable, despite these shoes being sized appropriately to my feet. That being said, I didn't have a single blister by the time all was said an done. Just some slightly tender pinky toes that I had the sense to tape up when they started feeling hot.All in all, I consider these to be excellent shoes. Again, I got them on sale, but knowing what I know now, if these shoes got carried away tomorrow by a pack of wild dogs (which did happen to me and a different pair of shoes three years ago in Taos) I would absolutely buy them again at full MSRP.Pictures show shoes covered in dust from 20 miles of stomping around the Blanca Massif, minor wear expected.

Shoes seem fine, well made,. However at $200+ a pair La Sportiva does not pay for returns and that seems pretty crazy to me. It cost over $40 to return the shoes we ordered and which were essentially just were not for us, too large with what we ordered. Pretty disappointing considering the shoe cost and how online shoe shopping is in general (typically we pay $5 for what is discounted shipping due to company shipping scale). Because of this shipping policy rather than exchange for a different size we went with Merrells which have worked out great, even when we decided to return and get a different size (for Merrell). Wrote this review just to point this out as the company's policy, know best you can before you order if these are right for you
I've had these shoes since Oct 2018 (over three years & 5 months), so this is a long term review. I fly Hang Gliders so I need something light but grippy for launching on mixed dirt, rock, sand, and often steep inclines. Also, I need a fully functioning hiking shoe if I land out in the sticks (which I have). These have performed so well that I'm back to buy another pair. they would have lasted much longer had I not worn them regularly as a street shoe as well, so I did wear down the grip faster than I should have. I did experience some splitting on the edges of the toe box that other reviews have mentioned, but I also put a lot of miles on them. If you are more disciplined at not wearing them for everyday street shoes I am sure they would last 4 to 5 years even for ... MoreI've had these shoes since Oct 2018 (over three years & 5 months), so this is a long term review. If you are more disciplined at not wearing them for everyday street shoes I am sure they would last 4 to 5 years even for the most avid hikers. I don't really hike or fly in wet, muddy conditions but I love that they are waterproof so I can just rinse off the dust and dirt they pick up from So Cal high desert and mountain places that I fly.
These are the most rigid, the most unforgiving, and close to the most uncomfortable hiking shoe I’d ever purchased. I read a lot of reviews about it including reviews from Outdoor Gear Labs and it appeared the general consensus was that these were the shoes to buy if you wanted good support and comfort. I started by trying them on smaller, day hikes. My feet ached a bit afterwards but I chalked it up to needing to break them in first. After wearing them for a few weeks I decided to finally take them backpacking. They still weren’t perfect, but I decided to go against my own judgment and trust all the positive reviews. Big mistake. We did an overnighter, hiking 11 miles in, mostly downhill and uphill coming back. The downhill required shock absorption which this shoe ... MoreThese are the most rigid, the most unforgiving, and close to the most uncomfortable hiking shoe I’d ever purchased. We did an overnighter, hiking 11 miles in, mostly downhill and uphill coming back. The downhill required shock absorption which this shoe seriously lacked. The uphill the next day was painful, but not as bad since it was much easier to step lightly. My legs throbbed for close to a week afterwards. I will keep these shoes for when I do some minor exploring with very little weight on my back. Otherwise, never again.
Just ordered my third pair of these shoes. The first two I put through the wringer and only replaced after wearing them out. This is an excellent 3-season hiking shoe, but living in Southern California it effectively works as a 4 season pair for me. Burlier than a trail runner, but way more comfortable and lighter than a standard hiking boot. These are my go to for everything from backpacking trips and day hikes. Comfortable enough to wear around camp too. I only wear La Sportiva and found that sizing translates well between all their shoe styles.
Purchased these after poring through reviews for technical low hikers/approach shoes. I wore them for a week and immediately purchased a second pair I liked them so much. I rarely do that before gauging a shoes durability but was convinced within a week that I would be replacing them with the same shoe. They do run very large so I had to send a few back to get the right fit. They're very roomy as a technical hiker/approach should be for carrying loads so that caused me to size down a full size. One of the most breathable if not the THE most breathable goretex shoe I've owned.Fantastic low boot.
I bought these shoes several weeks ago ahead of a big backpacking trip on the AT. The waterproof material keeps all water out as long as it stays below the top of the shoe.I was really impressed with the grip of these shoes. There were some times on the trail where I wish I had the extra ankle support of a taller boot but the vibram grip on these still kept up really well. Just make sure you're very conscious with your foot placement and you'll be good.I personally really like the design of these shoes. I know the bright green isn't for everyone but it's used in moderation here and I like the green accent. The the outside of the shoe has held up really well so far and they are super breathable even while being waterproof. The mid-grade nature of these shoes means that they're not super heavy or bulky but they're still pretty tough, waterproof and provide all the necessary means for hiking on tough trails.Yes, these shoes are a bit pricey but I think its a worthy investment when it comes to an activity like hiking/backpacking where you don't want any doubts about your gear.In the future I will continue to use these for day hikes, backpacking trips and even walking to class on rainy days. They're great, versatile shoes and I highly recommend them.
I had worn the TX in size 46 and they've been a very good fit. However they were getting worn so I bought the Spire GTX in a 46. After wearing them around the yard in an attempt to gain a good feel it became apparent the Spire as a 46 was too tight. So it cost me $50 to return them and then La Sportiva rejected the return entirely due to dirt in the tread. 2 hours doing yardwork in a yard with no grass even deemed them no longer factory fresh. There is no room for error with this company, PLEASE only attempt a purchase ON-SITE! And hope the walk around the store doesn't foul the tread!
