I received this whisky as part of a 'Advanced' taster pack and knew from the first sip that I had to buy a bottle! It has all the peaty, seaweed character of any Lagavulin, but there is an added complexity which draws you in. It had a slightly peppery taste and a almost 'chalky' sensation, which sounds like it might be unpleasant but I actually found intriguing. Having purchased the bottle, this lovely drop has not disappointed and I recommend it to anyone who likes the bold, interesting notes of the island based whiskeys.

Believe it or not, I tried this at the Oban distillery bar! What a fantastic taste, very complex tar, peat, treacle flavour with a very long after taste. Fantastic. Probably my most favourite dram ever!

If you like peaty whiskies and sherried whiskies, this is about as nice a whisky as you will every taste. Beautifully balanced, with a rich and coating mouth feel. On the nose nutmeg and oakiness, with vanilla and peat smoke. On the palate smoke and peat, with vanilla and rich dark fruits. Great linger with strong heat and spiciness.Imagine Lagavullin 16 with a more complete and perfect balance of sweet and smoky. Exceptional whisky that will always be in my cabinet, as long as I can find it!

I've tasted prior years versions and this 2006 bottling doesn't disappoint. Classic Lagavulin notes of the salty sea but tasting a but more mellow with the different aging method used here.Purchasing and shipping was smooth with bourbon central.
This is my desert island whisky. If I could only have one for the rest of my life, well, that might be the Dimensions Bruichladdich 15, but then my life would have to be shorter because it costs 3X as much and may not be around forever. Still this Distiller's Edition is in a virtual tie, so I'll give it the win.As much as I love the 16, this Distiller's Edition is more intense and full and complex but, somehow, also smoother. An amazing animal. You better love Islay, and you better love Lagavulin, but if you do then you'll love this.
I've been drink Lagavulin 16 for quite a few years and I would say that it's been my favorite. When I saw the Distiller's Edition, I had to try it. It blew my mind. It cost a bit more but it's was definitely worth it for me. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that enjoys peaty Whiskey.
OMG, one of the best single malt scotchs I have ever had. I only thought Lagavulin 16 was the best, this Disttillers Edition is even better, I mean much better. If you like the single malt stuff, you MUST try this stuff before they run out.
Let me start by saying my everyday-go to-Scotch is Lagavulin 16 Year Old, which I find unbeatable for an Islay Scotch Whiskey. Peaty, smooth and all the things one would expect from an Islay, Single Malt.I thought I’d splurge (almost twice the price) and give this one a try. For me the Distillers Edition (still a 16 year old) is just too Smokey and has a bite (heat) that is unforgiving. The cigar tastes are overbearing, as is burnt oak barrel overtones and sea spray. What stands out most to me is the cigar, smoke and what I’d discribe as peaty dirt and sea spray. Worth a try and probably not bad-just not for me. I’ll being going back to my good old 16 year old.
I've bought and had Lagavulin 16, a classic Scotch. This one is just as smooth, with a different, slightly peatier character. Wonderfully smooth and rich with a long and refined finish.
Yeah, it’s definitely a step up from the regular Lagavulin. I was expecting the PX to take over but it just lingered there nicely. It was just lingering in the background so nicely peeking through the smoke like a demon haha. Honey maple, berries and cornbread throughout the nose. I suppose Bowmore 18 has a stronger Sherry influence than this though. And I honestly like the Bowmore better without question but this warrants the extra dinero over the regular 16. I also really nice Kilchoman Sanaig. I think for the money, I’m taking Sanaig over this but this is world class for sure.
