Have bought and fished a couple of Lamson reels before and were very happy with them. The Guru S was no exception. Nice light reel with a great smooth drag. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy another in the future.
I bought the Lamson Guru S 3+ about one year ago. I have used it multiple times at the San Juan River. The drag is flawless.....I caught and landed dozens of large trout over 20" on 7X tippet and never had any issues with line breakage. This is my second purchase.I love the color of the blaze orange and the quality of this product is outstanding!! I would definitely recommend this reel for anyone looking to not spend more than $275.BTW, I own two Ross Evolution reels that are about three years old. I totally like them as well. However, when I get to the river, I choose the Lamson.
I recently purchased a 4wt TFO rod and Lamson Guru reel from Fin and Fire. I told them the perimeter of my fishing experiences and I was matched with the equipment along with Rio Gold WF4F line. Great combination for my local rivers and the Crooked River. When I arrived in Redmond I got direction to the River and the proper set up. The rod has a great feel and loaded up tight loops and beautiful casts. I fished with a dry fly indicator and trailed with a nymph. Excellent reel, smooth, great drag, low maintenance, dependable, and easy retrieval of line. This reel keeps control of fish and line. It feels natural in the hand and spins like a dream. The line spools perfectly. It's a must-have!!! This reel is amazing.
Lightweight machined, yet durable and sturdy as hell, this is one of WWL's best reels in my opinion. The Guru can't be beat when you you're looking for a versatile, all-around high quality reel at a price point that won't make your wallet cry.Also, LOVE this OG color. I was looking for the arctic color, but found out the brand only makes Arctic in their heavier/larger reel sizes than what I needed, and the blaze color is only in the smaller options... luckily the OG color is available in all the reel sizes.
Solid well constructed reel. Wish the drag was stronger. I own the 8/9/10wt and the drag is more like that of a 8wt. Used for guiding & fishing for king and sockeye salmon in Alaska. Handled sockeye well and worked for kings but I would have liked a little more stopping power.
The Guru S is a refined reel, there was no guessing about drag adjustments. I fished this on a new Sage Sonic that the guys at MFC kindly set up for me. Thanks Danny and Nicko, This combo is balanced, palming the spool when the hogs were ripping line was no problem. I didn't have to search for control, it was like I could close my eyes and know exactly what needed to happen. It's the GURU S -5+ and it is balanced, smooth, capable of combating every element you encounter. Its becoming a new favorite in a hurry for good reason.
