I bought the Lamson Guru S 3+ about one year ago. I have used it multiple times at the San Juan River. The drag is flawless.....I caught and landed dozens of large trout over 20" on 7X tippet and never had any issues with line breakage. This is my second purchase.I love the color of the blaze orange and the quality of this product is outstanding!! I would definitely recommend this reel for anyone looking to not spend more than $275.BTW, I own two Ross Evolution reels that are about three years old. I totally like them as well. However, when I get to the river, I choose the Lamson.

I recently purchased a 4wt TFO rod and Lamson Guru reel from Fin and Fire. I told them the perimeter of my fishing experiences and I was matched with the equipment along with Rio Gold WF4F line. Great combination for my local rivers and the Crooked River. When I arrived in Redmond I got direction to the River and the proper set up. The rod has a great feel and loaded up tight loops and beautiful casts. I fished with a dry fly indicator and trailed with a nymph. The reel was light weight but sturdy and more than adequately did the job. The best combination in my many years of fishing, Russ Tacoma

Great reel! Was considering several others, called Trident customer support, they recommended the Guru S for my price range, and it has been great. Had the 7+ for two years now (this will be the third summer) have landed 20 or so redfish, countless specks (spotted sea trout), 10 or so flounder, and tons of bass. I am careful not to submerge the reel in salt water and I rinse with fresh water after every trip into the brine, so far the reel is as smooth as the day I bought it.

I really like this reel. I also have the Speedster S, which is a beautiful reel, but I'm always scared I'm going to scratch it up! With the Guru S, it is also a fantastic looking and performing reel, but it's a little less expensive, so I can relax a little more when I have to lay it on a rock or store it in a boat rod holder.
This reel is beautiful and lightweight. It also has a good sound with the line going in and out. It would be perfect except that the drag is too tight at more than .25 lb on lowest setting. I believe a lighter adjustment is important when fishing 7x tippet!
Paired the Guru S with a Scott Wave 9wt. Fantastic quality and balances extremely well with the Wave. Great drag and great styling! The Guru S has quickly become my favorite reel!
Very well made reel. Took some getting use to the removal and replacement of the spool. Make sure you are familiar with it before heading to water.First fish I caught this season was an Atlantic Salmon on the guru in challenging conditions.Lots of striped bass after that…Very happy overall.
The Guru 5+ is a sweet looking reel especially the olive green color. Same bomb proof drag as the the higher end models, which I've owned many, and never had one fail. Lamson has typically shied away from "color" producing mostly gray or black reels in the past, good to see some color options on some of the models now. Reel is super light, very high quality and will balance any modern lightweight 5 or 6 wt rod.
Solid well constructed reel. Wish the drag was stronger. I own the 8/9/10wt and the drag is more like that of a 8wt. Used for guiding & fishing for king and sockeye salmon in Alaska. Handled sockeye well and worked for kings but I would have liked a little more stopping power.
The Guru S is a refined reel, there was no guessing about drag adjustments. I fished this on a new Sage Sonic that the guys at MFC kindly set up for me. Thanks Danny and Nicko, This combo is balanced, palming the spool when the hogs were ripping line was no problem. I didn't have to search for control, it was like I could close my eyes and know exactly what needed to happen. It's the GURU S -5+ and it is balanced, smooth, capable of combating every element you encounter. Its becoming a new favorite in a hurry for good reason.
