I received a matte black Lamy Studio with a medium nib as a gift from my wife. I like a solid pen with some weight to it and this is just about perfect. The construction is very precise, everything fits flawlessly. It posts well and weight and balance are right on. The medium nib is fantastically smooth. I’ve since swapped it to a 1.1 stub which is just as nice. My main criticism for this pen - and the reason I deducted a star - is the grip section, and not for what you think. I do currently have it inked and use it with hopes of finding a comfort zone, but I usually give up and rinse it out and grab another FP instead. Sadly I don’t think the 2000 would work for me either since they seem similarly shaped. If you have calibrated your grip to drafting and technical instruments and are sensitive to grip size & shape this may not work for you and you may want to avoid it. However if the fatter tapered grip doesn’t bother you, then this is absolutely a 5-star pen just get one!!!

Looks may be subjective, but pen lovers rarely dislike a well-made black pen with a stylish clip. Even if one does not fall in love with this design, there is nothing to dislike about it. It is a slim, but not super-slim pen that holds nicely in the hand - even if one is a big man with large hands. Most importantly, the ink flows perfectly but is not too wet that it does not dry fast enough on the paper. The nib is slender and sturdy. I have the Fine point which writes almost like a medium. The nib moves smoothly across the paper except at a certain angle one can feel a slight scratchiness. It won't bother most writers and some might like it because it makes the pen feel 'alive'. But the scratchiness is what stopped me giving this a five-star.

I swapped the rubber grip section from my Studio in Stainless Steel and put it on the Dark Forest. Then I went to my stash of Lamy nibs and swapped out the silver nib with a black one. NOW, I have the Dark Forest I want.I inked it up with DeAtrementis Document Ink, Dark Red....I thought the contrast ( or at least the complement of the color wheel) fit the purpose.Finger prints are hard to even see on this pen body. It has a nice sheen to it, the only thing that sort of detracts from it is a strong highlight from the light source ( but you can always play around with the angle of the pen). If you have a Studio that has the rubber grip section and any black nibs ( I know others do not like them ), you have options.I don't worry about getting ink on the rubber grip section, I syringe fill all my converters. Yeah, I might be a "Dip"....but I don't do the dip thing with converters.As usual, the Goulet service is always top notch and helpful with any questions that need to be answered.This is a cool pen without the conversion of the grip section and nib. But I like it even more with my added twist.

This is my marathon journaling pen, and I have no problem writing with it for hours and have never had any slipping. Almost every part of the pen, the materials, aesthetic, grip, weight, ergonomics, are all exactly what I want in an everyday workhorse pen.I have two issues with this pen. First, the posted cap does not sit perfectly - it has a slight bit of movement. That was shocking on an expensive pen, but it is unnoticeable during normal writing and is more of a personal annoyance. Second, I do not love the nib the way everyone else seems to. There is no question that the nib is absolutely great, it is buttery smooth, provides the perfect amount of feedback, has an excellent feed, and worked fantastic right out of the box. It writes better than any steel nib I own and is superior to almost every gold nib I own. I cannot underline enough how much the vast majority of writers would love the way this nib writes. However, my favorite pens have some "bounce" to them without adding any pressure, which creates a dynamic script with natural variation in width. This nib feels too stiff for me. It feels immovable during normal use but provides a slight flex with a tiny amount of pressure.Overall, this pen is so, so close to perfect. I would not change a single piece of this pen - except to add a little bounce to the nib.

Right out of the box, this is a beautiful pen. (Yes, a beautiful BROWN pen). It is smooth to the touch but not slippery and has tiny sparkles, not over done, just enough. I got a fine nib and write on Clairfontain paper. Lamy knows how to make a nib. You do not need to find a sweet spot, you just write. Ink flows well no skips, blobs, or drips. I have the ink converter in the pen and it fuels the nib well. I love the click cap, positive and secure. For the price this is a great Lamy pen. Everything about it looks well engineered, perfect fitting, and modern...JED
The pen arrived really quickly (2 weeks, even though I don't live in the U.S.). The texture of the body feels amazing, the weight of the pen uncaped is great (caped feels a little heavy). Although at times it feels like the cap might scratch the body when uncaping, it hasn't happend to me and I believe someone really needs to be rough on the pen for the paint to peel off. The grip section was my main concern, because I haven't had a FP with a metal section and the main criticism on this pen is exactly that. At first I thought I had a defective nib, because it relly took about 7 minutes for the ink to start flowing, but after I applied a little pressure to write, the ink started flowing and it was one of the smoothest writing experiences I've had, especially with a Fine nib. I used the Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku ink (that I also bought from Goulet).Overall, the pen is great. The tines on the nib might be to close and I think that's also why the pen took a while to start writing, but nothing that brass sheet won't fix. The grip section might be slippery if you have sweaty hands, but I think one can get used to it. I will try this as my EDC and if I like it a lot, I will consider buying a gold nib for it.Lastly, I really want to thank the Goulet team (specially Adrianne and Rachel) for helping me to pick a pen and for having such an amazing service. I was on the fence about this pen after last years Black Forest. I still can’t figure out what color that pen is. I think the lacquer has something to do with it. Because this pen has lacquer I thought it might look odd also. I’m happy to say that this pen is gorgeous. It’s a deep, rich coffee brown with a generous amount of understated, fine brown shimmer. We’re not talking Benu glitz here. This pen is definitely office appropriate. If you like brown pens this one won’t disappoint. I’m a big fan of Lamy’s matte finish but this pen is changing my mind. I’m always impressed with the value and quality of the Studio but this might be the be the best one yet.
