This is a quality multitool for sure. The moment you hold it, you can feel the craftsmanship that went into this product. I decided on the premium price point for Leatherman because my multitool is one of those products that I can't have fail when I actually need it and I don't feel that I will have that issue with this piece of gear. I bought the Signal because I enjoy hiking, backpacking and camping, including some light bushcraft and with features such as the whistle and the fire starter, it was almost a no-brainer.I am really happy I purchased a Leatherman product but did have a couple of smaller, minor issues, none that would have stopped me buying it though. My first one, and it's actually more of a nitpick than anything, maybe more of a suggestion rather than a gripe. The packaging could be a lot smaller. I feel like there was so much wasted cardboard for such a small item. For instance, it could come packaged in the holster already. It's not like there is a window to see the multitool or anything. Don't get me wrong, the packaging is very nice and feels premium, but I feel you could get that with less packaging and a more interesting design for opening the box (Microsoft packaged the Xbox Series X interestingly). Also, don't underestimate that feeling of unveiling the multitool from its holster instead of when the inner box is slid from the outer box. Or maybe you have a one size fits all box and if that's the case, then pardon me, I will shut up. :DAfter my first excursion with this, it's pretty sweet, however I have one other minor disappointment with it's design/feature set. I really think that the omission of scissors was a poor choice. This was confirmed to me when I gave it to the lady that was with me to examine, and without any priming from me, the very first criticism from her was that she was surprised it didn't have scissors and felt it should. I agree and I feel like they could have been added without any sacrifices to any other feature. To be fair, this was something that I knew full well when buying it, so it's not like I feel like I was tricked or anything, however, it wasn't until after some field time I realized that not having the scissors available was a big disappointment. In my most recent hiking adventure, I needed scissors because a knife just didn't cut it. ;)Overall it's a great tool with plenty of useful features and I would recommend a Leatherman Signal for any hiker/backpacker/bushcrafter as a great addition to your kit.

I haven't owned an actual Leatherman before.Long ago, I had a cheap multi-tool that I got for a birthday present and was turned off by how loose everything was as well as how cheap it felt. The past 4-5 years, I started carrying a pocket knife and realized how often I used it, yet could really utilize some extra tools.I did some research for a few days on Leatherman tools by recommendation of a co-worker. I wanted something with a lot of features but it also had to have a pocket clip, since I would carry it daily and didn't want it standing out.I was quite set on the Signal when I saw the Topo version. Easily takes up the space of a decent sized pocket knife but has SO SO much more to offer.

To start this off, I will say this:The Signal from Leatherman is made for it's intended use, and is proficient in what it is meant to be used for. I say it this way because I believe this tool is really meant for the outdoorsy type. It is great as an addition to perhaps a collection of multi-tools, but maybe not for your first unless you're planning some month-long wilderness retreat right after it arrives. This is probably the most sleek design that I've seen come from Leatherman, at least looks wise. The functionality of the Signal is great, the blade cuts through wood and cardboard like butter, and the hammer is an excellent addition that I've never seen before. The Signal doesn't have a large range of tools, but the tools that the Signal does have allow you the versatility of assembling furniture from certain Swedish-origin Dutch-headquartered home goods stores; or maybe starting a rescue fire when the situation calls for it. The best of both worlds, if you will. The only negative aspect of the Signal is that it's use is very situational, and unless you're into bushcraft you should probably consider something else. I would recommend the Free P2. Or, if you have the money, the P4 is pretty much the best they've got for general everyday use. However, I could see how 21 tools could be overwhelming for some people. In closing, if you're looking to start your collection maybe look for something else, but if you've got a good EDC Leatherman then it's worth the money. I've gotten a lot of use out of this thing. it features some unique tools like the sharpener and the hammer, and even has a carabiner for your convenience. And of course, it has the security that you're purchasing an incredible product that will last you a lifetime, just like every other product Leatherman makes.USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

New to the Leatherman brand, but have worked with tools my whole life. I purchased a signal for an outdoor utility tool and am very satisfied with it. The finish is great, tolerances are perfect, easy to manipulate yet stiff enough to ensure accuracy during use. Pliers have such clean cut edges and precision that I was able to use them as tweezers the other day. Though on that note, I would recommend the signal be manufactured with tweezers in the future, as splinters are not an uncommon occurrence while out and about. All in all, nothing will be able to do everything, but as far as multi tools go, this is a great addition. Superior to the other brands that I have used.
I have had this tool for about 2 weeks and have hardly used it. It was to replace my lost skeletool that served me well for over 8yrs. I used that for anything you could think of from house life, to backyard, truck, motorcycle, fishing, you name it- skeletool held up when a general tool was needed or a fast pair of pliers. This had a saw and more intense pair of pliers then the skeletool so I gave it a go thinking the hammer feature to be pretty great as an idea and better pliers as a must. The tools on the inside are difficult to pull out without potentially cutting your fingers- a little thumb tab would have been nice. But I feel, with more use, that this can be ignored and worn in with time. You cannot close the tool with the screwdriver out which is more ... But I feel, with more use, that this can be ignored and worn in with time. You cannot close the tool with the screwdriver out which is more obnoxious then anything since applying pressure could lead to knuckle smashing etc. The whistle/ sharpener and striker are both cool ideas but very flimsy plastic in design- especially for Leatherman which had always been a heavy duty, hard wearing type of brand. But those are features not as important to me as the carabineer clip, screwdriver, pliers, knife, and saw.The pliers are great! There is even alittle feature to keep them closed up (I really like that for the hammer situation). Honestly the only part that I can say totally rock. The screwdriver (as previously mentioned) has that major flaw of having to have the tool open to use it the whole time. The knife actually opened itself up in my back pocket when I went to take the unit out. Wow that could've been very bad, but luckily the knife is aimed down. That was in the first few days so it should not have been loose like that from the factory. Simple fix though. The knife itself is excellent and sharp and locks in place well and easy enough to unlock. The saw, excellent as well. The big reason for the two stars is the carabineer clip! I need this feature for when I'm mucking in swamps or by the river or climbing and crawling in places that it could pop off with a simple pocket clip. I was only using the hammer feature with minimal force (I am a slender built woman, in case you need a reference!) When the metal clip popped right off up and away into the rafters to be lost forever. That was week two! I used the skeletool like a hammer (who hasn't misused their Leatherman??) And never ever had a peice pop off or break or compromise!! And I was using this as intended! Extreamly disappointed that the major feature I needed broke right off and I cannot purchase a replacement. I will email them and see if I can get a replacement having already tossed the box and update this after.
My wife bought me the Cobalt Blue Signal as a Christmas gift. Needless to say, it's going back to Leatherman for a refund. The short story is that the quality one would expect from Leatherman is lacking with at least the colorized versions of the Signal. (I don't intend to get a non-colorized version due to the experience with the one being returned.) The long story is as follows. First, the finish. The colorization is nothing more than a paint. It is not anodized or a hard finish like Cerakote. Over time the paint will flake or scratch off if you actually use this as a tool. Second, the pliers and all of the features that make contact with the paint when opening and closing are very stiff when new. That is, until the paint flakes or wears off in these contact ... Second, the pliers and all of the features that make contact with the paint when opening and closing are very stiff when new. That is, until the paint flakes or wears off in these contact points. At that point, everything opens fairly easily and smooth. Except for the saw. Due to the handle design of this tool, unless you have long finger nails or something to pry with, opening the saw from its closed position is rather difficult. Upon deployment of the tools, the audible click of them locking into place is very faint and not very solid compared to their other tools I am accustomed to (Wingman all the way up to the Charge+ TTi.) This includes the liner lock on the knife and saw. The Awl didn't want to lock into place until the paint flaked off the edge it rides against. The sharpening steel also does not like to rest flush against the handle in the particular one I received. I could see it snagging on pocket removal often if I kept it. The Signal is a $119 idea that should be priced at the $59 price point of the Wingman for its low quality. Yet, the Wingman feels of better quality. Unfortunately, I cannot rate this product more than 2 stars for its low quality and cannot recommend it.
I ordered the red one for myself for my bday and had my name engraved on the blade, as well as some mountains. Even though I spent 10 mins lining up the letters and spacing them perfectly online (and they will fit) the person who did the engraving cut off the bottom of the letters so now it says Fric G rather than Eric G. It was also filthy when I took it out of the box like it hadn’t been wiped down at all after the engraving and there was tons, like a lot, of dust on it and stuck in the grime. The tool itself is great, but at a price point of 250 ish with the engraving, it’s a pretty sloppy job. Pretty sure I can’t return a custom one either. The quality of the tool is excellent. I gave it a poor rating just because of my disappointment with lack of attention to detail on something I paid extra for and 3 stars overall on account of the engraving and sending me a filthy tool. I own a free K2, skeletool cx, surge and free t4. Those have all performed very well over the years and also shows I’ve been a loyal customer.
I already had several Leatherman tools in my collection before adding this one, and I was pleasantly surprised at how different this one was. Included in my collection are a Wave, P4, skeletool, wingman, and others. The signal is a larger tool in hand and feels super solid, no flex or twist. It has just the necessities for wilderness activities and not all the extra bulk and weight of extras. I'm looking forward to bringing it with me on my next camping trip!I opted to get the aqua colored one just to mix things up a bit, and I love the unique look of it. A couple gripes about the paint, however, are that1: it is already showing wear after a few days of use, where the painted surfaces rub against other moving parts. ie. the tab that locks the knife blade out, and ... The light colored paint really attracts dirt and grease. I noticed this right out of the box as I initially wondered why it was so dirty with finger prints and wondered if it was used. Upon closer inspection it looked like it was just the factory grease/oil that was used in it. Still though, it took some time to wipe it down with a rag to get it looking clean.Overall, a beautiful solid tool. I probably wouldn't recommend a painted one for use as an every day carry, but definitely a great one to add to a collection for outdoors use.
The overall versatility and tool is solid so far. The plastic attachments are not.I've used the firestarter for maybe 15 strikes to just test it out and the plastic housing separated and needed to be squeezed back together. Definitely a nice to have if this tool is all you have with you, but I would invest in a good fire steel as your primary tool. The diamond sharpener is.. adequate? It isn't multifunctional unless you want to use it as a nail file, and I suppose if I were lost in the woods with only my knife, being able to sharpen it would be a huge benefit, but again - the plastic is already wearing. There's a tiny plastic hook that holds it in to the knife that would easily snap off if inserted wrong. The rest of the tool, however, is solid. I have been ... The carabinier + bit driver combo is probably my favorite thing in these multitools. I carry it on my belt loop literally every time I leave the house, and having easy to store and carry interchangeable bits are amazing. The blade was exceptionally sharp from the factory, the saw seems functional, the pliers lock open with much more resistance than my skeletool, which means that a little torquing isn't going to result in bloody knuckles when it folds back.I didn't use them to see if this was the case, but I did give a preliminary torque down on the wire cutters as others have said they fall out.
Loved the tool. I was using it for my part time job after work, it wasn't even a 1 week old when it was taken out of my car after a robbery. I loved the knife when I had it, and I can easily afford a new one, but I just use a cheap box cutter blade now to save the disappointment of losing another great knife. I caught the image of the homeless guy on camera and if I ever see him again, you bet that he's going to have a bad day. I hope this new owner appreciates the craftsmanship that produced it, because I certainly buy the best for a good reason.
