Instructions were easy to follow. As a beginner builder, I did put the rear axle in the wrong hole which made the pull back action not work. But it was an easy fix that didn’t require removing a bunch of pieces. The durability on this product is what impressed me. It goes faster when pushing and not using the technic. We crashed it into the door frames, lego cars, hot wheel cars, and had it running over half inch thick wood planks. Not once did a piece come off the truck! This product went from a hobby to being a fun, family activity.

The Lego Technic Grave Digger is a neat little product from Lego that I really wasn't expecting this year. For $20 you not only get a great recreation of the iconic monster truck, but it includes two different ways to put it together, and a pull-back feature. There might be some real nostalgia dorks taking notice that it's not completely accurate to the truck, such as the wheels not being big enough and the windshield not being two-piece, but it's very minor and shouldn't be a problem for those that just want to put it together. I do have my own minor complaint though, and it's that the directions tell you to put the decal stickers on the wrong way. Take it from me, look at the original box and it shows how they should look facing the right direction. Definitely worth a pickup if you've got the patience for putting it together, and it can take a few hours.

Not as simple to assemble as block based LEGOs so you may find yourself doing more of the work than usual if you have younger kids (5-6). With so many holes and rods, it would be very easy to line something up incorrectly and not realize your mistake until much later. While you can absolutely complete the build with the pamphlet, this is one that I HIGHLY recommend using the app for because being able to rotate the image to see where things attach is a big help. The end result is fantastic. My son loves any LEGOS with the pull-back motor function and this is no exception. He has a large RC Grave Digger so he was overjoyed to have a LEGO counterpart. He's pretty rough on his and rams them into things constantly and sends them over considerably jumps. Not our first Technic adventure, but I would recommend this for 10 it was EXTREMELY frustrating for the 8yr old and two adults. Parts were missing and the instructions are backwards and incorrect every other page or so. The fact that the review images are all a bit different, including our final truck just confirms that it wasn't just us with this major issue despite the fantastic reviews. All in all, pretty disappointed, but I suppose it'll make a cool collector's item and shelf decoration. Not durable for play due to missing parts.
I am an experienced Technic builder, having built and modified Technic sets since the 1980's, although I am not your average target audience, being an older female Technic fan.Overall, this set took me about an hour to build.I was disappointed in the build. Some of the instructions were confusing. At times it was hard to see where the pieces went (and this is from an experienced builder)There are a couple of small additions I think would have added to the aesthetics. There is room to put a drivers seat and a steering wheel to make the truck look like a truck, even though the steering wheel would only be for looks and not actually work.Play value wise, I think this set would have benefitted from a ramp so that you could make the truck tackle obstacles.I ... MoreI am an experienced Technic builder, having built and modified Technic sets since the 1980's, although I am not your average target audience, being an older female Technic fan.Overall, this set took me about an hour to build.I was disappointed in the build. Some of the instructions were confusing. This is such a great little technic set and perfect for value and fun. I really like how it is 2 builds in one and how it can introduce LEGO technic to littler kids. My little cousin really liked this set when I gave it to him as a birthday present and he even made his own car with the parts from the set. I don’t personally own this set, but judging by the look on my little cousin’s face, it was a good set.
Next week is my son's birthday, and he loves anything related to LEGO. So, I saw this Monster Jam Grave Digger monster truck building kit at the store, and I had to buy it.He loves building trucks, and this set is perfect for him, mainly because it is age-appropriate. The kit has 212 pieces, cool Grave Digger graphics with ghost and fire details, giant tires, a movable flag, and red headlights. That boy is going to have a good time building his LEGO Monster Jam Grave Digger
I love the Lego Grave Digger it looks great on my shelf. It is so realistic that my 3 year old grandson can't resist it. Everything he sees it he wants to make it do a nose wheelie and donuts. I have to tell him to play with his monster jam cars and not mine. So now I have to remember to put it away when he comes over. I brought it for myself but my boyfriend has claimed it. So not only is it a hit with the kids but my boyfriend and his friends can't keep their hands off of it. I am looking for other monster jam vehicles from Lego. I have always loved Lego since I was younger now I can still find kits to put together now that I am older. Great family fun everybody in the family can find something to put together.
I had a lot of fun building this little loader! It was easy to put together with pieces chosen to be different colours for different lengths, which I appreciate! This is only my third Technic piece but the one I was most excited about. It's a simple design but that's part of the appeal -- clean lines, built solid, and the lift is really smartly designed. It does a whole lot with only a few pieces! It definitely takes some coordination to pick things up with the scoop. It takes two hands because of where they're placed. I'm really impressed with how well it works and the range of motion on it. It could be altered to a forklift very easily. The scoop can hold a lot of items and weight without tipping down to drop them, likewise the loader is balanced so that wherever ... MoreI had a lot of fun building this little loader! I've included pictures with the little bulldozer from the City line. Minifigs fit in the loader's seat :) This little guy is going to fit right in with my city trucks and construction site.No stickers in this kit to worry about.
Like many people, Lego has been a part of my life since I was a little kid. It had been a long time since I had built any, and the Technic line didn't exist when I was an active builder. I was a little intimidated by it! My first build honestly felt really difficult despite being a small kit, mostly because I didn't know the pieces and expected bricks XD.This was my second Technic build, and I feel so much better about it now. It prompted a third (the skid loader which is really fun) and I'm now eyeballing the excavator, because I love construction equipment and big vehicles. You don't get much bigger than monster trucks! Not in terms of personality and fun factor, at least. I grew up with Bigfoot and Grave Digger on TV and remember them fondly. Not in terms of personality and fun factor, at least. I grew up with Bigfoot and Grave Digger on TV and remember them fondly. My partner and I purchased a monster truck each, and we now race them on the sidewalk outside or in the hall of our apartment. The pull-back action on these is fantastic -- you don't get a short pull and then the clicking of it being fully wound. You can give it a really long pull, and the speed and distance it goes is truly impressive! It makes for easy stunts and lots of fun with obstacles like loosely stacked lego/wooden brick walls or sticks and rocks to roll over, and of course it's perfect for ramps. We usually hit the end of the hall before they stop. Honestly, our biggest concern on the sidewalk is losing one into traffic, as it's a really high traffic area and they could easily zoom right across the street, even with parking spots on both sides! We have a ball hockey net up to prevent tragic accidents.I'd love to play with these with my nephew, but our city's been in lockdown for over a year now. We've sent him videos though. He says he doesn't like building the technic kits, but this one interests him, mostly for the finished product. (He's 10, started Lego at 5 or so).My cat is terrified of it. Our dog REALLY wants to chase it and eat it. Since Lego doesn't come in Barium colour, we're not big on the idea.I would actually recommend this kit over the smaller Technic kits! The price point is still good, it's not a long build (I put 2hrs as I listen to audio books while I build so am slower, plus I don't organize the pieces because ADHD brain says it's more fun to hunt for every single one, sigh), but a really satisfying one with a nice big monster truck to show for it. Displays really well on shelves, but thanks to the heavy fenders it also holds up to plenty of crashes into walls, other trucks, flips off ramps, cats, etc. I expect they'll get battered a bit, but they protect the rest of the truck.I added tail lights for safety.
