The LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings Barad-dur Set 10333 is a must-have for any fan of Legos and Lord of the Rings. This Lego set will help you build Sauron's villainous stronghold located deep within Mordor. The 1033 Lord of the Rings Barad-dur Lego Set is recommended for ages 18 and up. This set contains 5,471 building blocks and features 10 mini figures, some good, some evil. This set is intended to help you build the evil tower topped with Sauron's all-seeing, swiveling, fiery eye. When you spin the figure around, you can see the inner workings of the seat of malevolent power. Our favorite aspects of this LEGO set are three of the included figurines. One is Frodo holding the one ring to rule them all; another is Samwise Gamgee with his sword at the ready; and the third is a crouching Gollum, ready to pounce. The LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings Barad-dur Set 10333 was released on June 21, 2024, for a retail price of $459.

Barad-Dur is perhaps the first Lego set I and my brother had purchased in a heartbeat. Often we look at rating or let the thought marinate for a while on whether to purchase or not, but it was not the case for this set.Barad-Dur is such a well designed set that combines the best of visuals and functionality together. Building this set was an adventure, not feeling repetitive as we kept building. The functions and features of the set is amazing, each level has an aspect of uniqueness and personality. I built the base/dungeon and Saurons throne room while he had built the dining hall and the eye. The build took us approximately 20 hours over the span of 4-5 days. The mini figures are excellent and Sauron is for sure the best figure of the bunch, however it would have been nice if he was somehow just a little bit taller than the others. The set looks amazing on display, truly a feast for the eyes. It also allows for a lot of messing around with the set and figures, however a part of the library does not allow for a minifigure to fit. Other than that, the rest of the levels allows you to create scenes as you like and switch around figures. Saurons throne room has the great function and Easter egg of the globe with the burning tree of Gondor which is hidden away. The gate to the tower is also fun to mess around with, along with the maneuverability of the eye and the ladder in the library. Endless! The set carries so much detail and allows for a lot of room to explore and play, which allows it to be a great piece of display aswell as a set to mess around with. Truly a one of a kind, and perhaps my favourite Lego set since the UCS Millennium Falcon. Also, the Fell-Beast is great for a GWP. Even though the head is slightly disappointing, the detail is quite good, especially with the wings, and comes with a nice touch to the Nazgûl.Great job Lego! Looking forward to the future of this theme and the rest of your sets.

While Barad-Dur isn't the most well described location in an otherwise very detailed Middle Earth, Lego and the designers have done a good job striking a balence with this set. I think it hits every mark of a modern adult set, some better than others of course, but I do believe the sum is greater than the parts for this set.The display presence this set has is nearly unmatched. The build process is good having some great moments and some average ones just going through the motions - what keeps the build experience alive at an even pace is the gradual rise of this monstronsity. Play features are present and well attempted for an otherwise lack of detail on what it "should" be or have been. Minfigures while fewer than Rivendel, have great weight to most of them and ... MoreWhile Barad-Dur isn't the most well described location in an otherwise very detailed Middle Earth, Lego and the designers have done a good job striking a balence with this set. The design and color that comes together as you move through an otherwise common part list is what really impresses throughout the build.Overall, price point is high, but lower than Rivendell when they could have easily went higher. I think it is a fanastic 2nd addition to the modern Lord of the Rings location sets.

I purchased the set on the release day and built it over the next two days with my kids helping here and there.First, the GWP was excellent, very happy that Lego did one this year (and it definitely makes me want more smaller LOTR sets that I can let my kids build and play with)Second. The build looks awesome. It is impressive in its size, and faithfully recreates the tower. The eye is particularly impressive at the top. The inside and play features were fun, my kids enjoyed using the play features and thought the dining area was funny. Really excellent choices throughout. There are a few parts that I will likely change the color (mostly in the middle section) but it looks really good and was good to build.Third/last - the mini figures looked great. All of the prints and special parts are perfect. It would be nice to get the four orcs and accessories in a battle pack style set to fill out the tower with some more Orcs. Sauron is great. I would say that updating the prints for Sam and Frodo would have been more fitting for the set but the helmet moulds make up for that.Overall this is a great set and I am very happy Lego produced it. I do love these giant sets, but this set has really made me want to see more smaller LOTR sets like the GWP represents or an ORC battle pack to accompany the larger set (an elf "battle pack" would have been a nice addition to Rivendell last year to fill out some scenes in that build as well).I highly recommend this set, it was a great buy and I look forward to future LOTR sets.

As a huge LOTR fan, I have to say LEGO crushed it with this set. It looks amazing and I am super impressed with the creative interpretations for the interior, not to mention the minfigs of Sauron and the Mouth of Sauron. Awesome.Having said that, I have only built the base of the Tower (book 1) so far, however my enthusiasm for the build is totally dampened by the fact that I did not receive my GWP Fell Beast. It seems it was shipped using a company called GEODIS. Using their online tracking I can see that both the Barad Dur set and the Fell Beast set were shipped at the same time and cleared customs in Toronto at the same time. So why did I only receive the Barad Dur set?? I have emailed and left voicemails with GEODIS to ask them this and track down my package ... MoreAs a huge LOTR fan, I have to say LEGO crushed it with this set. Using their online tracking I can see that both the Barad Dur set and the Fell Beast set were shipped at the same time and cleared customs in Toronto at the same time. So why did I only receive the Barad Dur set?? I have emailed and left voicemails with GEODIS to ask them this and track down my package but so far have not gotten any response. I have never heard of GEODIS before but by all accounts, their customer service is a joke, and they are an overall terrible company. Just look at the Google reviews. I also emailed LEGO about my missing GWP, and while they were quick to respond, the answer was basically you’re out of luck but here’s a $25 GC. I am shocked that a company like LEGO would use this budget carrier for their free standard shipping, considering the massive revenues LEGO must be making based on the prices of their products. In my honest opinion, and considering many other customers seem to have not gotten their GWPs either, I believe this was an inside job at GEODIS. I am sure they have a contractual relationship with LEGO so someone or some people at GEODIS probably knew about the exclusivity of the Fell Beast set and decided to keep these sets for themselves only to turn around and flip them on the black market for exorbitant prices. How easy it would be for them to say, “sorry about your luck.” There can be no other explanation as to why one package would be delivered but not the other. Prove me wrong.I know a lot of people might say “big deal, the GWP was free anyway” but that is missing the point. I am huge Tolkien/LOTR fan and I have waited a long time to be able to buy LEGO LOTR sets because I could never afford them when the original sets were released. I was so happy to hear LEGO was releasing new sets last year. I bought Rivendell as soon as it came out and same thing with Barad Dur. Given the fact that these are the only 2 sets available from LEGO at the moment, I was super excited to also get the Fell Beast to complement my small, but still VERY expensive, collection. So, to not receive it is a massive disappointment. I would one day like to be able to collect all the discontinued sets but as we all know, they are being hoarded by non-fans and black-market crooks looking to rip everyone off. I’m sorry but $1000 for 2500 piece Orthanc or $300 for 750 piece Pirate Ambush is criminal. LEGO needs to do more to combat the secondary market pricing, but more than that, they should be holding GEODIS accountable for the missing shipments and/or not over-promise on their GWPs.DO BETTER!

As a long time LoTR and AFOL, I was super excited for this release, particularly when the Fell Beast was rumoured. Despite Lego Group's best efforts to keep it a secret, I found out about the 1st June Leicester Sq signing and froze for 3 hours (in June!!) to get a signed box plus the Fell Beast. The build is pretty much as expected apart from the worst experience I have had in 45 plus years of Lego building of the wrong COLOUR pieces being put in the set. The worst was a 6 x 8 plate of a colour not supposed to be in the set!Other than that, the Sauron minifig is disappointing for not being "oversized" and the palantir is, frankly, cheap - when compared to the great version in the Orthanc Tower set (sadly discontinued and I managed to lose this single piece - I ... MoreAs a long time LoTR and AFOL, I was super excited for this release, particularly when the Fell Beast was rumoured. Please please please a REALLY decent Minas Tirith in 2025 (why not break the £1000 barrier) and decent battle packs. I have lots of White Hand Uruk Hai and Rohirrim but no Gondor Tower Guards or Elf troops (beyond the Hobbit sets). We all want to do a battle of the Pelennor Fields in Lego or the scene from the start of Fellowship with the battle at the foot of Mount Doom...

Great set, only 3 downsides
7 June 2024

I ordered this set early in the morning on June 1st so I could get the Fellbeast gwp set. I was lucky enough to get it, but even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t let that affect my review of Barad-dûr because it was clearly stated “while supplies last” and it’s also an entirely different set. In other words, it’s irrelevant to my Barad-dûr review. The amount of reviews from people complaining about not getting the gwp set is both laughable and disappointing. Not to mention unfair to people looking for an honest review of Barad-dûr.Onto my review of Barad-dûr. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed building this set. This is absolutely the kind of set that such an iconic part of LOTR deserves. There are numerous little secrets that add an extra element of fun to the set. I particularly like how the eye can be moved around and posed. The level of detail in Sauron and the mouth of Sauron helmets and printing is quite impressive. There are also some nice play aspects that I wasn’t expecting, which do add a bit of extra value to the set. Once complete, the set itself is incredibly imposing on display and certainly eye catching. My only 3 complaints are quite minor. I wish the Sauron minifig was the same size as the Avatar minifigs given how large he is in the movies, but it still looks great. Sauron’s mace is a little underwhelming in comparison to the movie version, and probably should’ve been a new custom piece. Frodo and Sam should’ve had tattered clothes and desperate looks on their faces to match the movie a little better.Overall, I’m really happy with this set and would definitely recommend it to any LOTR fan with a Lego collection. Just a little expensive though, but that’s inflation for you.

Let this be the Return of the Theme!

"His fortress of Barad-Dur is rebuilt in the land of Mordor." Or rather rebuilt in LEGO! This set is amazing! I was very excited when I heard rumors about this set last year and I can honestly say that LEGO has outdone themselves yet again. Sauron's Dark Tower is expertly designed and full of fun details. Once again, I greatly appreciated every one of the comments and quotes that the creators put in the instructions. Regarding features of the set, I especially love the Eye of Sauron and every design choice that was made for it because it turned out spectacularly and was very fun to build. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the lava was designed throughout, the outer textures of the tower, as well as the roomy and detailed interiors. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the lava was designed throughout, the outer textures of the tower, as well as the roomy and detailed interiors. Barad-Dur is the tallest LEGO set I've ever built and I continue to marvel at its structural integrity and ingenuity. Bravo to the whole LEGO team behind this set!The Minifigures are all very high quality. Sauron of course is the cream of the crop and it is still incredible to believe that he exists! Much appreciation to LEGO for making that happen! Gothmog and all of the Orcs are insanely cool as are their new helmets, hair pieces, and shields. The updated Mouth of Sauron and Gollum are excellent too. Frodo and Sam's Orc helmets are exactly the way they are in the movie which is astounding. If Sam and Frodo each had a piece of Orc armor to cover their Hobbit clothes that would have made them impeccable. It was rumored that there would be 15 minifigures like there was in Rivendell and I was disappointed when there was only 10. Especially seeing as how the prices of the two sets are similar. I would've been happy even if there were duplicates of the Orcs.Overall, I am very happy with this set and I, like many fans, hope that the success of this set bodes very well for seeing a return of the entire LEGO LOTR theme. I think that everyone that purchased this set would be interested a range of new LOTR sets. Particularly some smaller and more affordable sets. I will certainly be on the lookout, hoping and wishing for their return!

Shipping Box choice….
10 June 2024

First, I have to say that the very durable cardboard and honeycomb packing protection for this large set was really great and appreciated. However, the Fel Beast set seemed to be MUCH less important for Lego to worry about. The shipping box was flimsy when compared to what the main set arrived in. To top that off, there was TONS of open space in the Fel Beast shipping box and merely a wrap of packing paper around the set box for protection. My Fel Beast set box arrived smashed at the bottom. Will it affect the build/play, probably not. However, many collectors do like to keep the boxes of our purchases. And why place a “while supplies last” label on this purchase? Will it affect the build/play, probably not. However, many collectors do like to keep the boxes of our purchases. And why place a “while supplies last” label on this purchase? Lego enthusiasts are spending $500 for previously melted plastic that costs pennie’s on the dollar and shaped into simple/basic building parts. That Fel Beast should have been included with EVERY purchase of the Barad Dûr set. All you did was open the floodgates for resellers to buy up all of the sets and raise the “$29.99” value that you, Lego, placed on the Fel Beast, to $130-$200+ each! I guess true Lego LotR/Hobbit fans aren’t as important as that mighty dollar from resellers/scalpers. It’s sounds so pathetic when a multibillion dollar profiting company limits a $30 GWP set to fans spending $500 of their hard earned money on plastic pieces that can somehow “run out”. Some fans bought this set during the 3 day predrop for Insiders only and still didn’t receive a Fel Beast, yet others that admit buying the set on the regular drop day (4 days after) and getting a Fel Beast set. You really should make this right. Those that purchased the Barad Dûr set and didn’t receive one should be sent one (with better packaging too!). Heck, offer an extra GWP also at that $30 value price you placed upon it. Give every fan that spent $500 on plastic a chance to own 1 or 2 of these so the resellers get stuck with their idiotic marked up prices on your product. As for this review being for Barad Dûr, I’m sure the build is great, the play is fun, and yadda yadda yadda. Everyone seems to love it. And no, I won’t be “calling/emailing Lego about this issue”. It’s seems many here that were unhappy with the shipping or not receiving the GWP set all got the same msg. Basically, “thanks for buying more Lego and we’re sorry for what happened.” End scene.

The Eye is Watching

This set is fantastic. Highly detailed and very imposing. I have a few minor gripes, but they can't take away from how good the set is. It is huge, has fun play functions, tons of sharp angles, and just a lot of detail. The minifigures of Sauron and Gothmog are particularly amazing. That said here are the nitpicks: I wish Frodo and Sam had tattered clothes from the end of the movie, instead of just getting another copy of the same minifigures from Rivendell. I would have preferred a 360 tower instead of a bunch of rooms to play in (sets in this price range are more for hobbyists than kids so it would make sense to me). Lastly I wish the tower was two studs taller, (I said it would be minor). This set is good value for money and amazing to look at, not quite as ... MoreThis set is fantastic. I'll be fixing the minor issues with my own collection of parts where possible. So if anything I get to have more fun building it further. I ordered it two minutes after it went up, so I did get the GWP, but I understand why people are frustrated at not getting it. It is a growing problem that those of us who actually want the sets to build have to compete so hard against scalpers for these things. I don't know what Lego could do to help with it beyond increasing their stock of GWPs, but they need to come up with something. I don't think that should take away from the review of the set itself though.

[Rewarded Review] Disappointing
11 June 2024

It was disappointing news to say the least after hearing that I would not be receiving the gift offer set “the fell beast” that was advertised for this purchase . I understand that there would have been high demand, but it is known that Lord of the Rings sets have sold out time and time over, and that maybe there should have been a higher set amount. The Barad-Dur set alone has been highly anticipated since the first releases of Lord of the Rings theme years ago, and since it’s announcement it has been viral over social media. It’s more disappointing that the website did not suggest anything about it being a “while stocks last” event and only to order before the 3rd of July, and it was being advertised all over the website to order for the gift, only to discover ... MoreIt was disappointing news to say the least after hearing that I would not be receiving the gift offer set “the fell beast” that was advertised for this purchase . It’s more disappointing that the website did not suggest anything about it being a “while stocks last” event and only to order before the 3rd of July, and it was being advertised all over the website to order for the gift, only to discover that there was no gift for many customers not just myself. I placed my order on the 2nd, so the event was only half way through its timespan, so this felt like a real blow. Lego is already getting very unaffordable for the common person especially when prices are consistently rising, but at least there was comfort in the fact that there could be a free gift upon purchase. I am an avid Lego lover since childhood, and Lord of the Rings is my favourite film series, so the two together sounds unreal, but this experience really put a sour taste on it for me. I hope that there may be a chance for those that missed out to get another chance in the future to receive this set and to be reconciled. Hopefully lego reads this and actually takes this into consideration because this was very bad on their part. If they bring back the set, all the people that were supposed to get it but missed out should be given one as reconciliation. I have contacted lego through email and they don’t seem to be very caring about this situation.
