Love liquitex and all their products. Definitely can tell the difference between this product and their heavy body acrylic. This basics style is more watery. Takes a couple of coats to fully get the desired saturation. But simple to add a thicker medium to get there. Pro is, there is a lot of paint in the tube!

At 4 oz, 118 ml Liquitex is always a dependable brand. At this size it's the most useful. Black is one of the most used paints aside from white, and so you always run out of it. It's good for most unartistic tasks like electronics repair, speaker grills, or mostly repainting anything that has black paint on it, and making it look new again. It won't fade in sun light and applies very readily. Perfect for crafts.

As a new painter, (acrylic & pour), I started by buying 3 boxed sets of 2oz. tubes & a LOT of inexpensive panels, (5x7), to explore possible latent talent as well as medium quality and value. No discounts or free samples so I did invest in the hope of enjoying, producing and excelling (over time). Liquitex has, thus far, become my one brand stop for acrylic colors, with good reason. Though not a "pro" by any stretch of the imagination, I found good paint coverage, mixing ability, color accuracy and yes, cleanup, all vastly more important than I'd previously thought. Pigment, weight, fastness, drying time are a few factors affecting anyone's end product. For me it is important for paint to be consistent in all areas, at a price point my budget tolerates well, allowing me to expand my paint inventory and chase my new-found hobby without going broke in the process. I checked all boxes with Liquitex and love that DickBlick.com has 8.5oz tubes at a super competitive price.
This paint is a great quality for an affordable price. Its consistency is smooth and provides little resistance in achieving an even coverage without dilution. The dry time is medium, not so slow that it disrupts a work session and not so fast that it dries on the brush if you're working the finer details of a section of canvas. It is opaque enough to apply one or, at most, two layers, even over darker colors without their showing through. It mixes well with other brands of acrylic and a little goes a long way (for the white) to lighten a shade or add highlights. For its even coverage and opacity, you will be able to use less of it than the more transparent and thinner paints, so it is a great value. Its texture is smooth enough to conceal your brush strokes if you ... MoreThis paint is a great quality for an affordable price. Liquitex Basics Ultramarine Blue - I use alot of ultramarine blue, as I paint with a limited palette. And I love the Liquitex line of paints. You get alot of quality for the money. Even though the Basics is considered a student quality paint, it still has the same archival ratings as the same color in the professional versions. I U. Blue in the heavy body & the soft body as well. The Basics tend to be a little softer & sometimes a little more translucent than the soft body paints, so each has its best uses. #sweepstakes
The image supplied; of my purchase, is showing a different color from the one that I purchased at my last visit to "Michaels". I, am hesitant to review the Liquitex-Basic Acrylics, since, depending upon the color and intended use and mixing; results do vary. But, I want to let you know, that these colors can be very nice indeed. Sometimes the opacity or density is measured slightly off and some of the available mediums, such as sandy finish, paste, or high gloss are not always available, either, in store, or online. Regarding my last purchase: I do like the buy one, get one with a coupon count off prices, { When that happens} And, for me these liquitex basics acrylics can often give very good tones and shades, unlike some other primary mixers. Regarding my last purchase: I do like the buy one, get one with a coupon count off prices, { When that happens} And, for me these liquitex basics acrylics can often give very good tones and shades, unlike some other primary mixers. The color that I actually purchased, which is not represented in the purchased list, is a "Neon type of pink", "Don't tell anyone", it is sort of a vintage color and I hope that it does not disappear. One of my favorite similar shades is Opera pink, and that color is not always available. There are a number of other pink shades, including extreme variations to the hot pink and neon color. Actually, I have found differences between , almost all of the brands of acrylic I have tried, that are offered in bright pink or hot pink or neon. Some are more matte similar to a lipstick pink. The one I prefer has what appears to be, almost a hot yellow or orange edge, to the brightest shade of neon pink? Maybe it is a sort of blued version? Since, I do prefer a specific shade in use, but can not always recognize it or tell it, when trying to shop in store. Actually the one offered by the Liquitex brand, looked more of a match to my ideal. When I purchase the neon color before, it was a little flat? Anyway, I do appreciate these , and they are equivalent to some of the Master's brands of acrylics.
My son is an impressionist painter, I am writing this review for him. He is almost nonverbal and his speech is unreliable, but I know that Liquitex helps him "talk" through his paintings. One day he came up to me with a piece of paper on it that said Liquitex Basics. I said "who taught you this?" we immediately went to Michael's and from that day forward, he rarely uses Apple Barrel--- he loves Liquitex and the way it dries and lets him touch his paintings with texture.
i have recently started using flourescents in my artwork. i finally found the best ones for my techniques. i especially love the color of basics flourescent blue. it has a prpoerty of transparency which is what i want: glazes over underpaintings that reveal brush strokes. really nice! so glad to have discovered this particular product! its a star in my pallette!
im a professional artist. i use acrylics along with latex paints. each have different properties. im super happy with the BASICS line of acrylics especially the flourescents. i keep on hand extra tubes of flourescent red pink orange green and blue. they are amazing. i have an art show on now of my paintings strongly representing basics flourescents. the viewers are astounded. i cant paint without flo red. its my staple. thank you for my materials found at my local michaels! and thanks for lowering prices and sales and coupons!
