A good unit - easy to use. Like other reviewers, I found the lack of any user documentation frustrating. I had to go online to find a manual for the Hook2 series. However, most of the manual dealt with navigation, down scanning and other features that the 4X doesn't have. Even the diagrams were for higher end models and took a little working out which buttons related to which features. Only about six pages were relevant. Common Lowrance! - it can't be that hard to provide half a dozen pages with 4X specific diagrams in the box. Especially given that many customers will be buying this outfit as their first sounder. I purchased this unit to provide a second screen down at the transom (I also bought a second battery [deep cycle, 7Ahr] for around $45. This saved wiring ... MoreA good unit - easy to use. This saved wiring in to my existing electrics and also a drain on my main battery). My main unit, with navigation, down and side scan and other bells & whistles is up the front and difficult to see when fishing down the back. I use it off shore and offer these couple of tips for others thinking of doing the same: 1) switch off the 200kh frequency of your main unit as the signals will confuse the transducer of the 4X; and 2) if there is any current and you are using burley in anything over about 15 meters, you probably won't see the fish as they will be down current and out of the cone range.

I’ve had mine for 3 years. This unit doesn’t show the bottom after 50’. The auto depth adjustment just doesn’t work and is constantly switching scales so what you end up with is 10’,15’,20’,30’ all the way to 120’ switching ever .5 seconds with a line on the screen making it unreadable. I have to manually set the depth range and then at least I can see structure but the depth display only shows up about 1/4 of the time so I’m guessing all the time. Lowrance tried to help and even sent me a new unit but the exact same problem with the new unit (I have no complaints with the customer service I received). Save yourself some time and trouble and spend a little more and get a better unit. Look up problems with this unit and you’ll see in not the only one.

I think this is the best bang for your buck without jumping to 2 or 3 times the price, and even most of those don't have the coastal charts/maps I'd be looking for. I don't do much inland fishing, so most the extra maps available don't help me. I wish they'd sell a charting feature that would let us map the bottom in areas we fish and have plan/topo view with changing contours. We could even upload our information online or to a server somewhere to create an overall view for others to use. (I've seen lake options for this, but for some reason I couldn't find a coastal version)

Great little unit for my tinny I have bought to be a topper.Display unit bracket is easy to remove, attach and adjust.Basic sounder functions seem good for price and my purpose.Gps Speed function works. I have not used way points yet.I downloaded Lowrance app, but my opinion not worth downloading for this as no mapping functions with this unit which fine for my purpose of Creek use.I have an Lowrance Elite ti in my bigger boat which is a better unit for mapping and fish finding inshore and offshore/Reef/shoals.I alsways run a vertical slide mount for the transducer mount on my boats that will be beached, Suggest buy one if you need as stops damage to transducer and mount.Overall good little unit for $150 on sale.
I bought this fish finder on a budget because the salesman talk me into it. Worst mistake I’ve made dealing with my boat. Since day one it’s been issue after issue! Would not work properly for day one. First hour or two seemed fine, then bam! Issue after issue. The screen keeps glitching, will not read depth accurately or at all, the unit keeps black screening on and off; now the unit will not turn off at all. It I’ll power down and instantly turn itself on! Did a hard reset. Still having issues. I’m a Lowrance guy, but this is purely a waste of money and time!! Highly disappointed! Only been out on the water twice. I’m down with it!!!
The fish finder does not show depth like it does in the picture... It just shows the (range) its scanning. I would love for it to show what depth I am in at the moment and for it to be visible for old eyes and maybe high lighted, but I digress... The unit does not show currant depth for me... I am very disappointed in every aspect in the manual... Nowhere I mean no where does it show my problem... In fact the manual is lacking very lacking in operation. This is the first time I have used the Lowrance brand and I knew I was taking a risk using such a cheap unit but reading other reviews I purchased it... I am unhappy about this purchase. I feel I was sold a cheap product that does not perform as advertised... I threw away the box and probably cant return this ... MoreThe fish finder does not show depth like it does in the picture... I threw away the box and probably cant return this product, but that doesnt mean I cant leave a review that might save someone else the problem I have... Do not buy this product... It is cheap and the instructions are not complete. I am forced to go to youtube to find out all the functions of this product and how to resolve problems with this unit... I though hey save a few bucks buy this unit, but I should have known you get what you pay for... I was lured in by the reviews that now I think are biased... I doubt this review will be posted... Lowrance has failed in a big way and we the public have to speak up and get justice for the negligence of lower tier products.. Just because they are lower tier doesnt mean they shouldnt perform as advertised...
This came preinstalled on a new small fishing boat and I've been putting up with it for 2 seasons now. I have a 25 year old portable Humminbird that works better than this useless device. All I use it for is depth as I troll around a small inland lake. It loses something as simple as a depth measurement at least 30% of the time in a lake ranging from 4-30 feet deep, especially in areas where the bottom is soft. The transducer was replaced under warranty, no difference. The unit itself was replaced under warranty, no difference.
Walmart is a great store and ships fast. That said, This Lowrance Hook2 4x (Bullet) very hard to figure out. Read that again. despite instructions. Although mounted easy enough. YouTube has a ton of videos about the dreaded live mode weird screen I failed to see before buying. Jumbled numbers and white screen with intermittent colors has something to do with actual depth. Well this is all I get from the beginning. BTW This has no GPS but upon inspection it has no slot to get it or the maps if you wanted it later. So what you see is what you get. So far for me it's been a nightmare of self contained grimness. Its very hard to figure out. Maybe it's the auto depth. I suppose I need a months worth of YouTube set up and trouble shooting. I have zero tech savvy so it ... MoreWalmart is a great store and ships fast. That said, This Lowrance Hook2 4x (Bullet) very hard to figure out. Read that again. despite instructions. Yes I'm aware of water depth placement of the transducer. It's fine on the Yakattack adjustable arm I pre-purchased before it arrived. And it mounted up perfectly. Note : it never just worked and suddenly didn't. It has always had this weird screen from the beginning. Except for running in the factory programmed simulation mode. That's completely fine? I give this a 2 for being tech unfriendly to us novices and sub Einstein's.
I bought this sounder a couple months ago and was very happy with it until I found out I couldn’t sit up the front or stand and cast and look at the unit at the same time, it started saying I was in 400m of water and was blank. The transducer was installed as low as it could be in the water. Then came a week later, after turning the unit off and un plugging my battery to recharge the week before as always. It wouldn’t turn on at all, my battery was full charge and the wires were in 11/10 condition so it’s been replaced.
I should have listened the the bad reviews posted.....however I took a chance and bought one. I wanted something simple to mount on my trolling motor on the bow. All I really wanted it for was contour and depth, I have a nice fish finder on the console. The initial startup was fine. I turned fish ID on and was good to go, then I had to turn the ID off. It littered the screen with fish, false fish. I figured I could turn it off and not use that feature. Then about 10 minutes into use it started glitching all over. The graph started registering the wrong depth, by hundreds of feet. Then it would level off and be fine. Then it was doing it all the time. I would shut it off and turn it back on and it would be fine for a couple of minutes and then go crazy again. ... MoreI should have listened the the bad reviews posted.....however I took a chance and bought one. It was enough that I finally shut it off completely.Long and the short of it. I have an older Lowrance that does not have a lot of features that this one is suppose to have, however I wanted to get something newer than my 20+ year old fish finder for the bow. I should have just used my trusty old one or got another older model on ebay that was proven. I have a hook reveal on the console and it is amazing. Just wanted a simple fish finder up front on the bow, and this is not it. Save time and money and get something else from Lowrance.
