Greatly Dissapointed
my unit came with the purchase of new boat, I should have grilled the salesman more because there really is no GPS , just a chart plotter that won't take lake chips. and no ability to upgrade. unfortunately you can't tell by looking at the unit because all it says on the face of it is Hook Reveal. anybody buying a Tracker boat , Heads Up!!... Great product!
I am really happy with this purchase. It is pretty easy to use. The quick start guide helped me set it up quickly. I installed the transponder in the hull of my kayak, ind=side a well with some putty at the bottom. Everything works great, except the temperature. That was expected due the transponder not being in the water. The screen is clear and I am able to see the fish, and tell what is not a fish.I decided that I needed to put the transponder in the water. I bought a Scotty transponder mount #141, with the standard setup. I initially thought I would have to buy additional hardware to put the transponder on the mount, but the hardware in the Reveal 5 box worked perfectly with the mount. I did need to drill the hole in the Scotty mount to match the Lowanrce ... MoreI am really happy with this purchase. It is pretty easy to use. The quick start guide helped me set it up quickly. Hook reveal 5 ss
Overall happy with unit after the setup process. The setup was a bit difficult being no English instructions the staff at Rutherford jumped in to help me, I had issues getting genesis live to work, I only wanted that and the fish reveal feature on downscan so I saved myself money in getting the cheaper. But the gents at Rutherford BCF made the calls and told me my micro sd card was too big it wouldn’t see a micro sd card larger then 32GB. If you are having these same issues with any lowrance product just make sure your sd card isn’t larger the 32GB, was supposed to be common knowledge but I didn’t know that and nothing was in any documentation. Once that was all done and working I couldn’t be happier! Cheers fellas at Rutherford BCF!... Show more

It comes with a 20ft Transducer Cable
I was searching for a new fish finder to replace a 20 year old Hummingbird depth finder on my pontoon. I chose the Reveal 5 model because it was the largest size that would fit in the available space on the console of my pontoon. I searched the manufacturer's Web site and many others but could not find the length of the transducer cable specified anywhere. After much research I ordered the Reveal 5 model and figured I would find a transducer cable extension if necessary. Turns out the cable was 20' and I needed about 25' to get from the rear of a pontoon to the console. I was able to find a 10' extension cable elsewhere online.I also found a flush mount kit for the Reveal 5 and a flush mount gasket. I am very happy with how the installation turned out!As for the fish finder itself I am extremely happy with this 20 year upgrade in technology. Having GPS, sonar and down imaging all in one is terrific! I also bought the inland lakes model and the contour map for my lake is very detailed. After watching a few online videos to get acquainted with the operation of the Lowrance I would say the menus are very intuitive. My family and I already have some of our favorite fishing locations saved on the GPS. I would definitely recommend this fish finder to others that do not need all of the bells and whistles (like side imaging) but are looking for a good solid fish finder at a reasonable price.... Nice Display
I purchase this unit to replace a previous Lowrance I had and it was not working anymore. (too old I guess) This unit has a nice display compared to my previous old Lowrance model. I thought, for some reasosn, that it was coming with Maps already loaded in it, but was sort of disappointed to learn that it seems to be optional. The description shows it is "compatible" with C-Map but it is coming blank as far as pre-loaded Map. I believe it can be purchased separately but at purchase time, it was not obvious. I also found out that the lenght of cable (to get the sensor connected) coming with the unit is not that long if you have a long boat, and you have to purchase a cable extender separately. For example, I had to purchase separately again, a gasket to make it fit the pre-hole existing on my boat, since the hardware in the box was not adequate for my custom installation. A few things that I didn't find very convenient. All in all, I spent a lot more to finally have this unit installed and working and I should probably have purchased a different model that was a better fit for my specific need.... Show more

Packed with features
I fish from a kayak and primarily for bass. I went through a lengthy fish finder review process before making my decision and came across the HOOK Reveal 5 more or less by accident. There are a many reviews out there regarding the Lowrance series priced under the Reveal series, but I didn't want to be tempted to make another new fish finder purchase in a couple years, if I could help it. While this model does not have the sidescan (something that is very cool), I also didn't feel that the step up in price would benefit me for what I use this for, which is fishing from a kayak in water typically less than 30' deep. The side-by-side sonar & downscan imaging are so sweet and really help to identify what type of structure and cover you're looking at below. You can find ... You can find those same features in the top-price brand, but that's less money in your pocket for just about the same thing and I'm not a millionaire. There are many features that I may never use, like the chart plotter, but having these features built-in at this price point will allow me the freedom of using this fish finder on other platforms many years down the road. Plus, it made for an easier sell on my other half.... Show more

Problematic from the start
I've only been out once since installing the Hook, but it was basically worthless on that trip. The GPS worked okay, although the numbers are very small and hard to see. The sonar didn't work at all, with the screen only displaying "STOPPED." Once I got home I was able to get some information off YouTube and resolve the issue, at least as far as I can tell. If it doesn't operate properly on my next trip, I will be returning it. Overall the operation is confusing and the setup is overly complicated. I couldn't find any technical information or support on the company website. The few videos Lowrance has posted on YouTube didn't help. Glad there are a few users around to support your products, because your company doesn't... Show more

So far this unit works great, there is a bit of a learning curve but nothing too difficult if you've used fish finders before. GPS plotter is basically worthless and was disappointed at how it works but I honestly didn't buy it for that anyways. Downscan, Sidescan, Sonar all work wonderfully, wish price would of been slightly lower but overall I am very pleased with this purchase. EDIT: 7/26/20 - Took the boat out today to do some mapping on a new pond/lake and it's only showing a white screen with watertemp and speed but no sonar, downscan, etc. Says "Stopped" and can't connect to transducer. I'm unable to locate any information on how to fix this not sure what to do. Downgrading my rating to a 1 as this is too soon to be running into an issue with a $400 unit. ... Will update if I find a solution and will change rating as well. Edit: 9/13/20: I fixed it! Its back to its working condition and it was a stupid easy fix too. In the menu there's a "Stop Sonar" button, why it was ever turned off I have no idea, im the only one using and know that I never turned this off cause I never knew it even existed. But like I said easy fix. I would like to mention its been over 6 weeks since I contacted Lowrance and have had no response from them.... Show more

Suggest Reveal(SS US Inland) 5 !NOT X Series!
I went looking for my first fish finder and all my friends use Lowrance so I looked at Lowrance, Garmin, and Hummingbird. Due to current state of the nation instead of going out I called Bass Pro. I told them I’m occasional fisher but was really more interested in mapping system and wanted a more detailed map. The employee suggested the Lowrance Hook 2 5x. He said mapping appeared much better on Lowrance, but ask 15 people 5 will say Lowrance, 5 Garmin, and 5 Hummingbird. They were running a special and he said they had the model(Hook 2 5x) I was looking for so out of good faith I made the purchase. Wrong decision! I got it in and the mapping was just white screen with an arrow. I was like well maybe I need to setup the map or download something... Wrong! The X ... The X series has no detailed mapping and none can be downloaded. If you want a good detailed map don’t get X series. Everything else on the unit was great. I called Bass Pro with my frustration of feeling cheated, but they made it right. I ended up going with Reveal 5 SS US Inland. Bass Pros customer service is top notch! Do yourself a favor and don’t get X series get one with mapping or downloadable maps.... Show more

The images shown in advertising have internal map. This is a lie for this unit. There is no internal mapping and there are no cards or anything else that will display a map on this unit 5X. No down loads, nothiing. The visual advertisng is completely false. I bought the 5X as the advertising shows a map and even the box it came in shows a marine map. Lowrance is putting a lesser model 5X into a box for their 5. Even the instructions that came with this unit are false. It does have GPS with a blank white screen and you make your way points and suppose to go back to them when you need them. NO MAP! Come on Lowrance, stop the cheap nonsense and tell peope what they are really getting. Not happy! Also, Lowrance sends a scimpy, vague 4 page fold out cardboard ... If you plan on finding out how to really use the 5X Lowrance, you have to go to Youtube and look at a tutorial that someone posted on the 7 Hook Reveal unit and try to refrence the 7 to the 5X. What a joke! My advice to you is stay away from cheap, frustrating Lowrance. I completely gave up on the 5X because of some additional problems I had with it and bought a Hummingbird. The Hummingbird comes with 35 page manual that covers everything. Never again Lowrance.... Show more
