Excellent product. This 925g packet of 100% wheat semolina was $4. 50. It is very attractively packaged with all the relevant information in good sized print. I use semolina for pizzas, cakes and puddings and I used some of this sample to make a Semolina Sour Cream and Lemon Syrup Cake (pictures included)The cake was very moist and showcased the particular semolina texture which semolina produces. I like that this product is 100% Australian wheat semolina and that it is a product of Australia. I also like that it contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. My packet had a use by date of 09/04/20 (effectively 5 months). Another plus is the resealable packaging which is very handy and maximises the pantry shelf life. Adds grainy texture, more bite. Easy to find with Macro logo on packaging. A bit expensive compared to other brands. Health rating of 4 gives consumer confidence that it is a quality product. Easy to open and resealable. Good size to keep in pantry. I do not use semolina flour often so it was interesting to discover ways of using it. I remember making a semolina orange cake which my Mum loved. It adds a grainy texture and bite to the cake. I wanted to try something different so used the sample from Bunch to make some Austrian style dumplings. Served it with a shiitake mushrooms and anchovies broth. Very filling and enjoyable, good flavour in the dumplings even on its own. I also made some semolina coconut cookies. Really simple to make and equally delicious. ... MoreAdds grainy texture, more bite. Easy to find with Macro logo on packaging. A bit expensive compared to other brands. Semolina is generally used for making pasta, pizza bases and gnocchis as well as cakes and cookies. I intend to use it to thicken soups, stews and gravies. I would also like to try cooking it as a hot cereal. My daughter wants to try making a Burmese semolina cake as well. Thank you Bunch for the opportunity to try this product.

Best cake result ! I have never, ever used semolina in my life. So with grave misgivings, I googled recipes and decided upon, Lemon Semolina Cake (with lemon syrup - but I didn't do the syrup component). The resultant cake was delicious for it was springy, moist, lovely looking AND delicious. I could not believe it, not only because I'd never cooked with semolina before but because halfway through creaming the butter and sugar together the electric beater died and I frantically sought a replacement ... which was my stick blender (being 9pm at night, no shops were open for me to buy a replacement). Nevertheless, the cake is superb and still was the next day. Can't wait to make the (this time, full) recipe again. Thanks for taking me out of the tried and true comfort ... MoreBest cake result ! Awesome product. *I purchased this product to taste test and review. I make homemade pizza's every Sunday. Making my own dough is very satisfying and it's important to use semolina not only to protect the dough when proving the second time but to help roll it out and to stop it from sticking to the pizza tray when baking in the oven. I can also make cakes and puddings with semolina. The macro is reasonably priced to the other brands and it was the only one on the shelf when stock was low. So in the trolley it went to give it a go. Resealable packet. I seal it up and then place it in a zip lock bag. This is just in case it opens and to help keep the bugs out. I do this with all my flours and rice packets. 100% Australian wheat. Suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians. ... MoreAwesome product. *I purchased this product to taste test and review. Great product. We use a lot of Semolina in our cooking and this one was one of the cleanest semolina's I have ever tried. Others will have some sort of sandy/gritty feel here and there in the teeth while eating, some impurities maybe, but this one was awesome. Will surely buy again.
Challenge accepted. When I got this sample I thought "Oh God, no!" Such reaction was caused by childhood memories when I was fed semolina porridge pretty much every morning for breakfast at kindergarten. My first intent was not to claim the sample at all. Then I thought that by reaching my middle life rubicon I should be able to conquer my early life memories and handle the semolina :). So challenge was accepted. I also hate waste. There was a buttermilk over staying it's welcome in my fridge and some overripe bananas in the fruit basket. I worked out it would be good to combine the challenges and so baked the banana bread with buttermilk and semolina. By the way, to say that I am a bad cook is a true compliment. But this recipe is so simple that even I could make ... MoreChallenge accepted. When I got this sample I thought "Oh God, no!" Versatile Product! I had never used semolina before so I picked up the sample with the intention of trying a few different recipes. I’ve made a cake, pizza and pancakes using this product and all taste just as great as recipes that call for flour. It’s a great alternative and I am looking forward to using it with other recipes in the future. Great knowing that it’s an Australian product too!
Good quality. This is a nice quality semolina. My family uses semolina often in our west African cuisine to make a “dumpling” like dish to eat with various stews. The package didn’t indicate if the texture was coarse or fine which I usually look at but appears somewhere in between. The quality was nice but the price point at $4. 50 is much higher than I usually buy for a larger bag. Overall, the packaging was nice and simple and I like the window to see the actual grains through. It’s definitely worth a try if you want to experiment with a new “flour” and it is very versatile.
Great flour alternative. This is one of those products that I never knew existed until it came up on here. I've long been using nut flours - particularly almond meal - as a flour alternative in my baking, but have never tried any of the other alternative flours now freely available everywhere. So far it's only been used in small amounts for crumbing and thickening a couple of sauces in my household, but I'm planning to bake one of my usual mid week cakes with it to see how it goes. I'm a bit nervous as I've heard you always have to adjust the recipe with a different type of flour, but it'll be interesting to see how it goes!
Memories. as a child my Mum made us (4 kids) semolina pudding, a simple but yummy treat, she sometimes served it with prunes but mostly it was just served in a bowl with milk. So I tried to make it, was successful and it tasted good and took me back to the happy days around the kitchen table when we all ate together. I would suggest to the manufacturer to put the cooking instructions on the packet, not sure why they didn't do that, the only thing could be that they want it to be more versatile than just made into a pudding. Having said that I still think a recipe on the pack is a good idea. You could use as a porridge also for breakfast, which I will do, as it's full of protein. It goes a long way so watch you don't make it too thick.... I just added boiling water ... MoreMemories. as a child my Mum made us (4 kids) semolina pudding, a simple but yummy treat, she sometimes served it with prunes but mostly it was just served in a bowl with milk. It goes a long way so watch you don't make it too thick.... I just added boiling water added some sugar and instantly it became a pudding. I will research on line to see what other ways I can use it. It was quite filling so I can understand why it was an economical way to fill kids up in the days when money was tight. It perhaps is making a come-back?
