Light flour. I received this flour as a sample to taste and review. There are many brands and types of flour available on Woolies shelves, from Plain, Self Raising and Wholemeal including the Spelt flours. The Spelt flour is an all purpose flour and can be substituted where a wheat flour is used in a recipe. Spelt flour brings a lot more flavour than a "white" flour. This Macro Brand is certified organic and comes with a certification number which is displayed on the packaging. It's a 750gm pack, so a little smaller than the usual 1kg packet most of us are used to. The full price is around $7. 50 but watch for the yellow tag specials, sometimes comes down to $6. Ancient grain goodness! I had heard of spelt flour but never used it so was very keen to experiment with this sample. First off was a loaf of bread that used 50% wholemeal spelt and 50% white spelt. Loved the way it turned out, a less dense loaf than wheat bread and it had a wonderful nutty flavour. I'm glad I did a bit of research first and found out that less kneading is required when using spelt flour, as this meant there was less work involved in making the breadNext, we used it in a pizza base. I found it made a softer base than usual so not for those who like their bases crispy. However the flavour was great. Forgot the photo this time, we must have been too hungry!! Lastly, I made flat breads and was really pleased with their flavour and how easy it was to ... MoreAncient grain goodness! I'm very happy to have been able to try this product and would definitely use it again, not just for its lovely flavour but also for its nutritional properties, however it wouldn't be my everyday flour choice because of its high cost. It's also come all the way from Italy, maybe an Australian option would be a bit cheaper. Hopefully we'll see some on the shelves soon!

Nice Product. Finally!I have had this Bunch sample in my cupboard for months and months now (could be even a year!)Every few weeks, I would think, I HAVE to make something with that sample and write a review….. and then it would slip my mind and repeat a few weeks later, and so on. Only really have time to bake on a Saturday, but most weekends I feel too hungover from Friday night drinks and LAST thing I feel like doing is cookingGoing through pantry yesterday and noticed the Best Before date is next week - so I finally got my act together and made:Apple + Cinnamon Bread (Teresa Cutter – The Health Chef) - plus I added Macro walnuts https://thehealthychef. com/blogs/recipes/apple-cinnamon-breadAnd I baked it in a Jamie Oliver blue loaf tin that I brought from ... MoreNice Product. Started off at 170C but that was burning a bit on top, and I was concerned about a burnt top and soggy middle, so I turned it down to 160C. Turned out perfectly in the end. I have eaten cakes made with spelt flour before, but I had never actually baked with it. The main difference I could see between this and your normal plain white baking flour, was the texture. With plain flour you can make a smooth runny batter, and the end result with spelt before baking, was a drier thicker gluggy sticky mix. That may have been a result of the recipe I used – I really don’t know– having never baked with it before – I was unsure what it was meant to look likeThe loaf was nice, but far too healthy for me. Next time I make it, I will add something sweet like dates or honey. I know wholemeal spelt is healthy for you, but the drier taste and texture will take some getting used to. Otherwise, a very good quality product as far as I could tellI think I will buy it again and experiment some more. Thank you for the sample.

Never used Spelt flour before so here goes ! I have never used spelt flour before. I cooked fresh raspberry and coconut muffins, which were delicious! We are camping in the rain so couldn't have a fire where I would normally cook a cake etc. So out comes Ziggy BBQ, and we cooked them in that ! They were delicious!

Quality product with a notable taste difference. When I received the sample, my first thought was ‘what actually is Spelt?’ Spelt is a different type of flour, it’s an ancient grain that’s making a bit of a comeback given it basically has better properties than plain flour. It does still contain gluten however (just to note). I didn’t think I would notice any difference at all, but I have to say..... I am an absolute convert and will more than likely be buying this as my main flour ongoing, particularly for baking dishes where the flour is more noticeable. I made banana pancakes with this flour and my family gave the pancakes 10 out of 10 and said they were the best that I had made. I could definitely taste something not-as-floury in the pancakes and they were ... MoreQuality product with a notable taste difference. I think for the difference in price (yes this is $7. 50 which normally I would balk at), I think this is quality and worth it. I don’t know if it would make such a big impact in something that was chocolate based (such as chocolate muffins for example), but particularly in a dish where you can taste the flour used, I would thoroughly recommend this.

Love the texture-Sugar free banana cake-pics attached. I made up a recipe for a sugar free banana cake with grated carrot in it. I supplemented sugar for sugarless liquid. (don't go overboard with this stuff cause it tastes **** if you use too much) I some how managed to cook it in my air fryer. I really love the texture of this flour. I must have done something right, cause my 4 year old is shovelling it in his gob, and my 5 year old who hates everything healthy is eating it. I think if your on a diet you might like a cake like this. I'm on a diet and would probs shovel anything in my mouth that was put in front of me atm, but it's not too bad at all. I did not use an electric mixer at any stage. It is dense and rather moist in the middle as i was slightly concerned about how it would go in the airfryer. Oven is currently dirty due to a family member letting **** overflow and burn on the bottom, and i refuse to clean it! I always get stuck with that intoxicating task. I could have stirred it a little more with the wooden spoon i feel but anyway. It is actually quite miraculous that i did something that turned out ok! Well miracles do appear to happen after all.

Almost rye like. Many of the previous reviewers tried replacing the spelt one for one with wholemeal flour and were not impressed. Not wanting to go down the same path, I did some research for recipes using spelt flour rather than waste a potentially perfect ingredient. Bread in the breadmaker was popular. In making my usual multigrain loaf, I replaced one third of the bread flour with spelt flour and it did need a touch more water. The resulting loaf was slightly more dense but only 2 slices of bread fewer than normal. The loaf had a slightly different almost earthy/rye like taste and was delicious. It cut well and the consistency was fine. Would have no hesitancy in repeating the recipe or even next time trying 50:50 spelt and wholemeal. Intend to work up to this ... MoreAlmost rye like. Seems ok. I don't enjoy baking in general so it took me a while to get round to deciding how I'd use this product. I didn't want to be mucking around with recipes such as adding baking soda etc, as I'd normally choose just a self raising flour. In the end I decided to make biscuits. (I seem to recall reading on Bunch that due to regulations of ownership by the Department of Veteran's Affairs, of the traditional biscuit name it can't be used here, so I made "oat and golden syrup biscuits")The spelt flour was an easy substitute for plain white flour. The biscuits turned out exactly the same and there was no difference in taste. Healthy but pricey. We used this at home for the first time and substituted it where we normally used flour. It did the job and supposedly has more health benefits, but we didn't notice any difference when we used it. Given how much more expensive it is than the normal flour we get, I don't think we'd opt for it again unless it was on sale or someone specifically requested we use it. Not a bad product by any means, just not necessarily one our household will appreciate for the price difference.

Love this flour! I've been meaning to try spelt flour for ages and I'm so glad I took the plunge! Made some of this into pancakes (figured it could hardly go wrong) and they were excellent—still fluffy and tender using the same recipe as usual, but with a fantastic nutty flavour and just a little more bite. They browned up and crisped at the edges really beautifully and I was lucky getting any for myself! Excited to try a few other applications and will likely buy this regularly, especially at the very fair price!
