Makita DUH601Z Power Hedge Trimmer Single Blade 4.5 kg

We own a landscape and garden maintenance business and wanted to start replacing the old two stroke machinery with battery kit. After some time considering brands we went with Makita and we are really happy with the result. We get around 40 minutes run time from a 5ah battery on this hedge cutter. It sails through the usual stuff we cut and is super quite and nice and lightweight. Excellent item.

Surprisingly punchy for a cordless tool, and very quiet. On the weightier side due to the battery, but easy enough to handle. Keeps voltage well and only loses much speed right before the battery dies.

The usual Makita standard I know and love, I always choose Makita for its guaranteed quality, and the batteries and chargers are interchangeable with my other Makita power tools.It was a toss up between this one and the heavy duty 36v, but decided on the lighter single battery as I'm only a tiny little woman! I've got 2 18v batteries so just used the hedge trimmer til one battery died then swapped it for my other fully charged one.One battery lasted for about an hour of hedge trimming, and the machine coped really well with the variety of foliage, from grass and soft leaves to thick brambles.I'd definitely recommend this hedge trimmer and would choose it again.

I've just bought my second one of these. The work they do is excellent and they are easy to use. However, the reason I've given only 4 stars for both quality and value is that the first one I had only lasted 4 years and then just stopped working (and Makita wanted more than the price of a brand new one to fix it). I've put it down to bad luck (as all my other Makita products have last far longer than this) and I'm willing to be optimistic for this new one.

An effective, quick hedge trimmer

Used my 5Ah Makita batteries I already had. One battery on high speed easily trimmed my garden. The unit is balanced but did require some strength and fitness. The rotating handle is very useful. Use with eye protection and only mess on with the blades if the battery is disconnected. After use I put spray oil on the cutters. No cable to worry about. My previous trimmer has a cut cable. Does a very neat job on a typical hedge, harsher on shrub bushes. If you have small jobs and lack the strength might be better with a 50cm blade?

Makita DUH601Z 18v LXT 600mm/23.6" Brushless Hedge Trimmer Body Only

Like everything Makita produces the DUH601Z body only hedge trimmer is exceptionally well made. With its battery pack it's still relatively light and comfortably manoeuverable. Its cutting blade is sharp and can accommodate some sizeable stems. Whether it's value for money, time will tell as it's at the pricey end of the market. Also I feel it a pity there's not some price concession when buying a battery.

Pretty good, but not Makita's most cost effective hedge trimmer.

Overall, very happy with the Makita DUH601. It is light, quiet in operation, easy to handle and can cut stems and branches up to a decent size. It will also provide a surprising amount of cutting time before you have to change the battery, even if your using a 3.0 or 4.0Ah battery pack. The twistable body is a neat feature and the reverse direction function is also useful in the event that the blade jams for some reason. I can't give it full marks however becuase although it is better than the Makita DUH523, the difference in price is difficult to justify. I have used both models and the DUH601 is, I would say, 20 to 25% better but it costs nearly three times the price.

Im a professional Gardener and this tool is amazing. I've recently moved over to battery powered equipment for health and safety reasons. I love not wearing ear defenders, I always used to get Ear infections.More about the tool: Lightweight, Great stroke rate. I believe run time under load on the fastest speed be around 45mins on a 5ah battery.Speed 2, you'll get a good amount more time, over an Hour from one battery. Tool is well made, Good metal casing on the underside with Grease port. If you are questioning this based on a professional opinion, well known branded hedge cutters run for around 25mins under full trigger and full load, before a refill. You'll likely use 2 tanks of fuel to one battery on this Makita. No brainer in the long run.
