Makita DUH751Z - 18V Brushless 750mm Hedge Trimmer (Tool Only)

This is a fantastic hedge cutter. It comes packed in a huge box and is easy to start. Instructions are clear. Has Very long and super sharp blades. Will whizz through all hedges very quickly indeed. I previously had a smaller Makita which was great for years but this is different gravy. It's heavier but well balanced. Will easily cut a normal hedge super quickly due the extra length and also blades are so sharp. Cuts through tough thick ivy too. Best hedge cutter I've had. You'll need a spare battery if doing bigger jobs as on full power I've found the battery life notably less than my previous Makita . Maximum points though as I love this machine.

I have several Makita cordless tools and have been very satisfied with them. The first one of the two hedge-trimmers that I bought performed very well, until the electronics failed after just over one year of light usage. Makita Tools mentions a three-year guarantee, but if you fail to register the tool within thirty days of purchase, then it becomes one year. I was faced with a repair-bill close to the price of a new machine, with limited guarantee, so I chose to buy a new one and have registered it for the three-year warranty. There was no documentation in the box (eg regarding registration for the extended warranty). That is why I gave just one star for value.

Hay cutter

I bought for cutting long grass to dry out for hay. I've made a jig up to strap it behind my ride-on then away I go. Once the grass is dry I use a stick rake to gather into heaps. works ok for my small amount of stock, two sheep plus a few chooks and ducks.

I already have 2 Makita 36v hedgetrimmers and have had problems with the blade retaining screws rattling loose so I thought I’d go for this model. Although not as powerful as the 36v ones it’s not far off and a good deal lighter due to the single battery. The blade attachment looks to have been re designed so good news and the blades are great at 750mm for the extra reach we sometimes need.I’m happy with this machine.

Tool quality as expected from Makita. Run time on the single battery is excellent, aided by being brushless. The 750mm may be a bit too long for some, the 600mm will do most home owners but the longer blade makes for easy straight top cuts. You can always get the shorter blade later as they are interchangeable. Even at the maximum end of branch diameter I had no blade jams. The adjustable rear handle also adds to the ease of use.Having gone from a 2-stroke petrol pole trimmer, I have welcomed the noise reduction and the weight loss. Set up and go in under a minute makes hedge cutting a joy!

Typical Makita - well made. Lightweight blade in strength terms so probably best not to try cutting too much large stuff as its blade engineering might struggle. Easy to see why it has a reverse action as pairings can jam. If working hard, will consume batteries quickly. Most will buy this as a domestic tool so will not be working long hours where a petrol is better. Very versatile with excellent rotation on the trigger grip end.Bit heavier than I anticipated in use but still lighter than a petrol equivalent.

An excellent piece of kit.Had it for about a month and used it twice trimming a quarter acre site surrounded by privet. Loved it.Just used it on a larger plot which was a bit overgrown and it did well with excellent battery life on 5AH.Not totally convinced to get rid of my petrol trimmers yet because I'm thinking I may need extra torque for hacking back but apart from that they are now my go to trimmers.

At the moment I can't fault the tool. Purchased this as the majority of my other tools are Makita. It is quiet, with battery on well balanced and easy to use. The safety is A1 and a fully charge 5ah battery didn't quite manage my whole hedge top and sides (Last cut two years ago). Now cut the battery would easily last the whole hedge.Went for longer blade to give max reach with out having to use ladders. Would recommend.

I have over 100m of beech hedging and 120m of conifer hedging to maintain and usually use a petrol hedge trimmer to cut it. I saw the Makita hedge trimmer on another website and discovered it had a much longer cutter and weighed significantly less than my petrol hedge trimmer. I have several brushless Makita tools, including a chainsaw and they work very well, so I bought this one, hoping to use it to keep thinner hedge growth in check. It far exceeded my expectations, sweeping through everything with ease and cutting a section of hedge in half the time my petrol trimmer took, including some thicker branches I had expected it to fail on. Amazing performance for an 18v tool.

Some times Big is Good

I was a little sceptical about the size of this until I received and used it for the first time. I have tall hedges front back and the side of my gardens. I was impressed by the weight and balance of the trimmer and as I use battery Makita tools all day at work and have plenty of batterys and had 4 5.0ah batterys ready to complete the task of cutting all my hedges. On full power I used only 2 batterys and not all of the second battery was used to cut over 100m of 2.5m high hedge. It dealt with black thorn branches up to 15 mm thick with ease.. I couldn't fault it to be honest for use on a big hedge. I was so impressed I bought a lawnmower and garden strimmer which both have excellent run time on the batterys. Well done Makita
