Marshall 1960A – 300W 4x12 Angled Speaker Cabinet

I purchased this jcm 1960a cabinet along with the JVM head. Best equipment I’ve ever owned. I was shipped as promised and arrived on time as well, in perfect condition. If you wanna take your playing to the next level you have to invest in some professional grade equipment. This has taken my sound to that next level. A classic for a reason

What's there not to say about this cabinet. People often forget ones speaker cabinet is just as important as the amp you play through.I will say this amp's voicing for anything gain related is amazing. For cleans it also fits the bill. All around the is one of the top cabinets there is for all around sound.

Best value and sound for a Marshall

For between 500-700 bucks, you get authentic Brit speakers, baltic birch shell and a selectable impedance switch. Its sound is incredible and full and other companies try to imitate it for much more money. The JCM 900 series is the best you can get and the last of the Marshall cabinets to feature the older Celestions before they sold to a Chinese firm and the production quality changed a little bit. It comes loaded with 75 watt speakers and the cabinet itself if in good shape, is literally compatible with any head you hook it up to. Buy one, become one with it.

Buy it if you can afford it... nothing with it so far.

I bought this cabinet, along with a Orange Dark terror head. I got this cab because it was a Presidents day sale, bran new for an awesome deal. I could not resist, however these things are still expensive. You are paying a bit to have the name "marshall" slapped on the grill :). I must say the cabinet looks very nice, seems to be built real sturdy and is big, so you get a nice big sound out of. I always wanted Vintage 30s or Eminenece Governor speakers but man, these Celestion G12T75s really do sound great, I don't see a need to go out and "upgrade" to vintage 30s. These kick out some awesome harmonics, and the bottom end is great. The Cabinet just sounds "big" and comes with casters. This thing just plain sounds awesome, just as good as any of the other big boys out there. Most of the other high end 4x12s are more money simply because they come with Vintage 30s, or greenbacks, heritage 30s or whatever, which are real expensive, but in terms of construction, wheels looks and sound, it does not get much better than this, as far as non ported cabs go. The tweed on the front is very easy to damage, an the tolex will rip if your not carful, but they both look sweet. By the way, Orange dark terror through a Marshall 1960 lead, a guitar with EMGs on it=Orangey/Organic/orgasmic/metalic explosiveness!

Expensive but worth every cent!!!

I was pretty much forced into purchasing this 1960A cab after the backorder delay for the less expensive version (the Marshall MX412AR) kept getting extended and extended (they are made overseas and the global pandemic has seriously messed with supply chains-they only trickle in sporadically and I had no idea how many people were ahead of me on the wait list). This 1960A cab was in stock however, not surprising really as it is more than twice as expensive as the MX412AR.You get what you pay for however. Instead of the MDF (medium dense fiber board) construction (which is heavy though still quite durable-assuming you don't drop it!) of the less-expensive MX412AR made overseas, the 1960A is made in England from 15mm birch plywood. Few would argue that the Marshall 1960 cabs are not "Best" quality and as it sounds incredible, and is very durable. Excellent resale value also. In summary, I am glad that I was "forced" by badly challenged supply chains to either keep waiting months for Better, or suck it up and pay the money for Best and get it delivered now. I have no regrets and you won't have any either. Fantastic cab!!!Right now I am only using with a tiny 1 watt head (Marshall DSL1HR) for home use but it is nice to have the capability to do about anything I might need to in the future with the addition of a larger head if needed. I have the cab aspect covered at least!

What can a normal player say about the quality of equipment that was good enough for legends like Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, Allman, just to name a few? There is nothing I really can enlighten you about except to remind you that if MARSHALL speaker cabinets were good enough for these guitar "gods" to make some of the best guitar sounds ever recorded then it is certainly good enough for all of us "merely mortal" guitar player! The history of these cabinets speaks volumes. I love when I can crank these cabinets at full throttle and wild open!! I use either my Marshall DSL (50 watt head using one cab) or my Marshall 1959 (100 watt using both cabs) to their limits and allow all the tone possible to flow from these MARSHALL legends. You can experiment for years trying to find your best amp tone, the best guitar with the best pickups, the best strings, and have played for years to develop your UNIQUE tone, but if the speak cabinets cannot translate all of this into the signature sound that you've created then all this effort is for nothing. The best guitar players in Rock history trusted these speakers on stage so therefore I believe Marshall Cabinets will compliment any tone that "us mortal" guitar players can produce. In closing, besides being able to handle multiple OHMS settings, MARSHALL cabinets have another nice feature. If you are using a single cabinet, you have the ability to use two speakers. If you are using an amp head in the 20-30 watt range you can make the cabinet more efficient and have "tighter" sound by using the two speaker configuration. Set the switch on the rear panel to "stereo" (16 ohms). Then use only one input from your amp head. Go with history and go with the best...MARSHALL!

Marshall 1960A cabinet

The full size 16 ohm, 300 watt, full size speaker enclosure is among Marshall's top of the line cabinets. The four panels are I believe dovetailed together, giving this cabinet incredible resonance. This speaker cabinet compares well to all the previously produced Marshall 1960A cabinets. I as well don't know if the cabinet is made of 16 ply birch like previous cabinets, which also lends to it's resonance.

Overrated

This is just an overall review of these cabs as i have had several throughout the years . I had tried out two more this year . I will say i have never really liked closed back 4x12's every since my first cab - a mitchell 2x12 front ported cab . But , that cab was sold and i did what everyone else did , buy 4x12 cabs . I will say some were better than others ...i liked the peavey 400 watt 4x12 , and i had a carvin 4x12 that wasnt bad . When i tried the marshall 4x12 1960 a again this year, a new and used one , they just sounded colored to me . And what is funny is they are small . I guess 28 years ago they seemed big and bad but compared to others, they are small . But for sound they just seem very colored . Randall , Orange etc. Almost gave up until i found the genz benz 2x12 g flex . To me , speakers have to be able to move . If they are closed you get a boxy low end with alot of highs . Also, closed cabs are so directional that you have to be right in front or out in the audience to hear the direct sound . Ported cabs arent like that . They fill the room . It might just be a matter of taste but i have had several people comment on my genz benz cab sound . I think people use 4x12s because its " what you do " . Also, some say front ported are boomy and sloppy ...not true . They magnify how ever your amp/eq settings are voiced . I have a EVH 5150 3 s and its very mid voiced . So tons of mids come through my cab. I have to scoop the mids . So a front ported cab will magnify whatever you give it . I will say marshalls still have that look ! I will say the old greenback loaded cabs with a plexi or jtm 45 are still the deal for classic rock !

Pure Marshall Tone

I purchased the 1960A from my local music store and wow. When I tried it out I connected it to a DSL 40C. Even at the 20 watt setting this cab is loud, but what a sound. When I got it home I paired it with my TSL601. This is the Marshall tone I have been looking for. I can't use it in many of the small clubs I play but, the outdoor events will now be better than ever. I was afraid of the brittle sound many described in their reviews, I did not experience that at all. The crunch and distortion is pure Marshall tone and the clean tone is fantastic. If you are looking for that extra punch/tone that your combo isn't giving you, try one of these out. My next test is to use only 1/2 of the cabinet to tame it down for smaller clubs.Great sound and great look.
