Each button represents a number and a few letters, plus # and *, like an old push button mobile phone. You can set a code using any combination of buttons, between one button, and all twelve. I use five-button codes. Because the keypad is mechanical, each button can only be used once in a code, and the buttons can be pressed in any order. It's easy to use in low light if you remember the pattern of buttons in the code. No need to read small numbers or letters, or fiddle with combination wheels. The code has to be used to open the box, and again to close it. This safety measure makes sure that you know the code works before you close the box, which is very handy if you change the code from time to time, say in a short-stay accommodation business. You can't lock the box by accident without using the correct code.In summary, this product is well-designed, works well, and is almost foolproof.

Great key lock safe, easy to set and easy to open. This is the second one I've bought, because the first one was a different brand (cheaper) and was very difficult to open without struggling for ages or breaking a fingernail. I definitely recommend having a key lock safe like this that can be screwed onto the wall and can't be removed. My first one had a padlock that I hooked on to a steel bar in my carpark, but someone tried to open it one night and you could see where he tried to cut the padlock. He couldn't, thank goodness, but I think the one I have now is more secure on the wall, and doesn't pose as much temptation for a thief to try and pry open.

Purchased this key safe, yesterday. It was the most expensive one in stock but it looked well designed. After Master Lock have a good reputation in security items.Once home and unpacked this key safe proved itself otherwise. It was impossible to open with out a combination. I hade to use a plastic tool to push down the clear key to give me enough leverage to open the thing.Went to enter a code. Their little recode tool was useless. Got a proper screwdriver and even then the yellow code buttons on rear of lid were impossible to turn. Finally got it sorted. Closed box using the correct code. Now the thing won't open.Going back. Never buy Master Lock stuff again.

Its fine for what I needed it for

The box is very solid. No mounting hardware, but a couple of drywall screws through the holes into a stud took care of it. But although they advertise "can hold X keys", well, yes, in theory. But there's no storage system in the box, it's a big empty thing, so you have to pile the keys on the bottom, and if they lay flat, you can't close the door. So you have to balance everything on its side on the bottom, with like 5 inches of wasted space above it, and keep them that way while you close it.You have to enter the combination to close it too.Combination can be any combination of the keys, but you can only use each once, and they'll work in any order. So 1122 is illegal. 1234 is fine, but 4321 2143, etc, all would match.I've read, but not tested, trivial ... MoreThe box is very solid. I wouldn't trust it outside with an actual house key or something important.

Lock box is great for a spare key!
19 December 2022

I like the push button lock vs. the turn dial lock much better. These are great to screw on to the wall next to your front door for when you forget a key, or need something for a rental. The one thing I don't like is that if you have a few keys in the lock box, and you open the door and attempt to close the door, you have to kind of organize the keys in the back of the lock to get the door to close. Otherwise it's a great product.

Master Lock Comvination Lock Box

First the key lock box is quite easy to use. The push buttons are very tactile. I am blind and find it quite easy to use. There are a few minor problems. The hook that slides inside to hold the key is very flimsy. It broke when trying to hang the key. I drilled a small hole through the box and with a stiff piece of wire made my own hook. When setting a combination I strongly would not recommend using the star or pound key, the buttons left and right of the zero. They are labeled incorrectly. On all phones touch pads the star is on the left. On this box it is on the right. It would be ok during daylight but someone using it at night would have a problem. The other surprising thing is that the safe will open with any sequence of the combination that you picked. For example if you chose 1, 2, 3 and 4. Any sequence of these numbers would open the box. By entering 4, 2, 1 and 3 would open the safe.I still gave it a 4 rating because of its tactile button accessibility feature. For the blind user it does require sighted assistance to set the combination.I gave the combination to the 911 center for my address. It will make it easy for fire fighters or ambulance attendees to be able to enter my home in case of an emergency.

Poor quality product

I’ve now purchased 9-10 of these items over a 4 year period. The clear button tends to stop resetting after about 4-5 months. Within 6-10 months they no longer work. I was hoping that it was an anomaly - u fortunately it’s taken me may times and about $500 wasted to realise that they are terrible. I am now going to try the alternative roller combination lockbox to see if it’s any better.

Use this Pushbutton Lockbox instead.

It is fine. It did what it was ask to do. While it has a simple design flaw (as all push button lockboxes) that the digits can be entered in any order, it has the HUGE advantage that other can not discover the combination from reading an open lockbox. It is also larger then the thumbwheel version.

Useless! I would give this negative 5 stars if I could...
12 February 2023

After having had this lock box installed by my parent's aged care provider, I had some spare keys cut and set the code, and closing the compartment. I was not able to open it again using the CORRECT code, similar to the experiences of another reviewer.Fortunately I was testing it so the new keys were not insideAs the fastening bolts are inside, I cannot easily unbolt it and thrown it away in the bi where it belongs.Aside from that, I dont like the fact that the code works in any order. i.e if the intended code is 149, one can enter 941 or 491 and the compartment will still open. Not very secure.

Purchased early December and have only just installed it.Found the instructions quite confusing.Set the pin code, fastened to the wall, closed the lock box using the pin code and now I can't open it.Can't remove it as the screws are located inside the box.Would not recommend this product.
