I fish freshwater for bass on a regular basis in both Florida (winter) and Maine (summer). I use spinning gear and have been doing so for 57 years. Some time ago I realized that, for a variety of reasons, monofilament is the best line for me.From time to time I will try different brands to take advantage of any improvements resulting from new technology etc.I recently purchased two 660 yd.spools of the Maxima Ultra green - an 8lb and a 10lb. I tried the 8lb on two bass trips over the last week and can only say I am very disappointed in this line.1. I found it to be VERY stiff2. It kinked very easily and I spent a fair amount of time working out backlashes3. Casting distance was significantly less than what I am used to4. The line had a very strong memory. ... MoreI fish freshwater for bass on a regular basis in both Florida (winter) and Maine (summer). I use spinning gear and have been doing so for 57 years. I suppose I could have sold the 10lb spool since it was unopened, but why stick someone with a product you would not use yourself. In summary, I would suggest you use something other than this product

I use Maxima Ultragreen line to make casts for fly fishing. The product is ideal because it is available in various weights and casts can be assembled to cope with prevailing conditions and species. The size of spools available allow the roving angler to carry small spools while larger quantities are handy to load up spinning reels etc. At home.

I have been trying to find a really good fishing line for the last 3 or 4 years. I have tried everything you could think of except for this line. I had never seen it because my local Cincinnati BPS doesnt carry it. I saw it at another BPS store and bought a spool. Here is the low down: Its not cheap but so far its easily the best line I have evered used. It casts great, plenty of sensitivity, great knot strength and abrasion resistance mixed with low stretch even if the line is wet and has been used for hours without a chance to dry out. I have used this line on Lake Erie, the Maumee River for the famous walleye run, and countless streams for trout and smallmouth bass in Ohio, KY, IN, and WV. I have hooked giant carp, drum, catfish, even pike and have yet to ever have my line break or cut off from a fish. In fact, this line is so tough that when I have been snagged the line doesnt break it just straightens my hook. The only time I can recall my line breaking is when I got snagged in a tree from a lousy cast I made and I couldnt reach my lure so I had to cut my line.As for the color, I dont have any proof of it, but it seems like in clear water or high pressure fishing areas that it works better than regular line. I have outfished my buddies quite a bit. The line seems to "disappear" because its such a natural color.Needless to say this is the first time I have bought the same fishing line for another season in a looong time. I also bought some 6 pound test for tippet material for my fly rod. I will have to see how that works out.

I have used maxima ultra green line for over 60 years. Many different pound test. My most recent purchase was a 4 pound spool. The spool of Brand New line keeps breaking on me and I am very, very disappointed in this current product.
Just bought this line, never used it before. I wanted to try something different. Had a heck of a time just trying to get it on my reel. As soon as I took the rubberband off, it just started unspooling itself off of the spool. Definitely NOT super soft and limp like it says on the package. I fish a lot of tournaments and go through a lot of line in a season, and this is the worst line I've ever spoiled up.
Nice and easy to use. Nice holder to keep it easily ready to access from boat or kayak. Colour works well for bream fishing too and gives confidence that fish won't easily cut your line. Green colour looks like is more like the weeds in river or lake bottoms for bottom feeders.
I first discovered Maxima when trout fishing with my dad. He hooked a 3lb trout on 4lb maxima in fast flowing water. The trout managed to wrap itself around a submerged branch. The fish stayed on the line for about 10 minutes before me managed to net it. I was really impressed with the strength of such light line and have not used anything since.
Great line. I understand the fishing guides on the Smith River will strip a client's reel and load this line if he/she shows up with any other line. Sure has worked well for me.
Maxima is the gold standard by which all other monofilament fishing lines are measured. All other lines measure up poorly in comparison. Maxima is by far the toughest line on the market. That's why it has such a proven record in the Pacific Northwest where pulling on big toothy river salmon has put it at the top of the podium. If you are somebody that fishes for trophy fish, and the thought of losing a fish due to an unexpected line break is unacceptable, then this is the line for you. If it has a downfall, it has a lot of memory and is stiffer than some other lines. It works well on baitcasting reels, but it can be troublesome on spinning reels forming loops on the spool if not reeled in under tension. It works fantastically as a leader material in conjunction with ... MoreMaxima is the gold standard by which all other monofilament fishing lines are measured. I choose to use MAXIMA Ultragreen for my light tackle. It is invisible in the water and I have less issues with tangles when tying dropper loops and loop knots. it is less likely to wrap around itself unlike other brands of line I have used in the past. MAXIMA Ultrgreen is my go to on all my 2000, 2500 and 3000 size reels for fresh water fishing, in particular 4, 6, and 8lb respectively. It has good amount of stretch and strength and more hook ups on the strike than other mono i used.
