Just received Targhee IV Waterproof Hiking Shoe. Keen Targhee just works for me. The wide toe box narrow heel fits my foot. Out of the box fits perfectly. Admittedly my 74 year old feet need ortho inserts and deformed heels need heel pads to reduce wear. My heels have cut through every shoe I have ever owned. Looking forward to updating this review in a year or so. My 14 month old Targee III’s heels had worn from daily dog walks on pavement. My Targhee II’s designed for natural surfaces had not done well either. Targhee II’s are an excellent golf shoe. Keen’s excellent fit, excellent waterproofing, excellent traction, and do not wear out in a year, all surpass the name brand golf shoes. Howser slippers around the house, Targhee III slip ons for everyday wear, Targhee II’s golf shoes, Keen Targehee II & III mid boots for yard work and dog walks in fields.

I walk seven miles a day and go through a pair of Targhees every 6-10months. I've been doing this for several years now and the Targhee improvements are genuine. The latest iteration, the IV is top notch! The new protections against delamination really show and the shoe feels very durable, sturdy. The challenge with Targhees is break-in. It usually takes 55 miles for Targhees to really feel comfy. In this period my foot will often slide on the insole but after this period the insole is conformed to my foot and steady. After about six months the sole wears down to the point I feel sharp rocks through the shoe but the waterproofing remains effective. After ten months the waterproofing falls off and I replace the shoes with a new pair.

I bought these for my husband who never buys shoes online and was extremely skeptical of wearing Keens as an adult man, having only ever seen children wear them.Despite his skepticism, he is quite pleased with the shoes and has worn them non stop since they arrived several days ago. He likes the cushion in both the foot bed and around the ankles. He is especially impressed with the toe and how the rubber comes up and over the toe, protecting the front of the foot and preventing damage to the shoe when hiking on rough terrain. The tread is great and will assist with those same hiking trips. My husband has fairly narrow feet, so I was a bit nervous about whether the same brand that fit my kids with very wide feet (generally need New Balance wides) would also fit my ... MoreI bought these for my husband who never buys shoes online and was extremely skeptical of wearing Keens as an adult man, having only ever seen children wear them.Despite his skepticism, he is quite pleased with the shoes and has worn them non stop since they arrived several days ago. Once he properly adjusted the laces, they fit great. I like that they don't scrunch his toes, too.My husband says "five stars are for perfection", hence the 4 stars. Not sure what could be improved, but apparently, while the shoes check all the boxes, they are *perfect*.

This is probably my 8th pair of Targhee and first Targhee IVs. It was recommended I go down a half size which seems to have been a good choice (11.5 to 11). The lases are somewhat shorter than previous generations, which is actually a good thing for me as I always found them too long. After wearing them a few times and breaking them in the laces seem to be just right.I typically wear out the middle of the sole before any other part of the shoe. I've got several pairs that are somewhat smooth on the bottom with the rest of the show looking fine.My only complaint is that when I'm walking on dry polished surfaces, like concrete or tile, they squeak. Not a big deal and if they last a few months longer than the previous generations I'll gladly squeak a little bit.
Thank you for making great shoes! I just returned from a 25 day intense birding trip to Australia and I took two pairs of shoes: A brand new pair of Targhee IV hiking shoes (my 4th pair of Targhees) and an older pair of Newport H2 Sandals. I went from the cold, wet and windy temperate region around Melbourne (it was early spring in the antipodes), to the mild weather of the sub tropics around Brisbane in the central, east coast to the sweltering hot and humid tropics north of Cairns.I loved the ruggedness and waterproof features of the Targhees when I was slogging through the mud and rain in the south chasing down new species (to me). Around Brisbane I wore the Targhees with shorts and low socks when rugged hiking was called for and the sandals when it was a stroll or out on the town in the evening. In the tropics further north, I was thankful for the cooler option of sandals. It is tough for one shoe to do it all, but thankfully Keen makes such a wide range of footwear that I was able to do my trip comfortably with only two pairs. Thanks.
My third pair of Keen Targhee shoes.First bought in September, 2019 and walked all through Ireland and long daily walks during the pandemic. These shoes were all time favorites. Lasting so long, and no issues. Good reliable grip, Decent foot protection on cobbles and uneven trails. Yet can clean up and wear to work on casual days (or any day for that matter - life it too short to be crammed into dress shoes).Replaced those when the soles were too worn in July 2023 with another pair - this time Targhee III Oxford. Immediately the quality difference was apparent. That pair had a lot loose threads around the toe box, but 15 months on they are working despite the raggedy look. I doubt they will last four years like the first pair, however. So when I saw this pair of ... MoreMy third pair of Keen Targhee shoes.First bought in September, 2019 and walked all through Ireland and long daily walks during the pandemic. I doubt they will last four years like the first pair, however. So when I saw this pair of Targhee IV in Olive on sale I decided to give them a try figuring maybe the quality had been corrected from pair number 2. So far I am really liking them. Who knows what threatened Co-President Musk-Trump tariffs might be on these shoes (sort of from Canada but made in Sri Lanka?).Anyway, so far the fit is decent (my left inner ankle seemed to not like the fit at first ut the stiffness in the shoe loosened up a bit after a week or two). Plenty of room in the toe box for my size 14 feet and long toes.My overall rating for all three pairs is a 4, the first a 5, the second a 3, and the third is still TBD but looking closer to 4 or 5 than 3.
Keen hypes up their boots and their customer experience. The pair I received had a manufacturing defect. No problem, I'll let them send me a replacement. Well, turns out it was a problem. Keen told me there was no replacement available in my size in the color I ordered, and that it will not be restocked this year, so I couldn't get a replacement. There was no attempt by the rep to try to find a different style in a color I liked, no apology for shipping a defective pair, no attempt to truly make things right. My options were to take a replacement of the same style in color I really don't like, or take a refund. I opted for the refund, obviously. I was told that it would take 5 business days for their backlogged finance office to process my refund on their end. After ... MoreKeen hypes up their boots and their customer experience. After I posted essentially this same review (which was quickly deleted), I did receive my refund pretty quickly. But Keen emailed me yesterday asking for a review. So here's my negative review again, that I'm sure Keen will delete again.
I purchased the targhee 4 boots thinking I was going to get a quality boot because they are $170 boots. Well the very first time I go to untie then the aglet flys off one of the shoe laces because they are using cheap plastic ones instead of the quality metal ones like Nike puts on their $60 shoes. Anyway, I was thinking it was jo big deal, I'll just contact customer support and have them ship me some replacement laces. Well come to find out they apparently have 0 extra laces because they don't manufacture extras at all. They couldn't even just take a pair of laces off identical boots and send them to me in a freaking envelope. They instead sent me links to their website where I could purchase replacement laces that don't match my boots at all and then said here's ... MoreI purchased the targhee 4 boots thinking I was going to get a quality boot because they are $170 boots. So they want me to spend more money for their quality defect. Safe to say this will be the last pair of Keen anything I or my crew will ever be buying.
Expectations. What are my expectations when I purchase a pair of shoes from Keen or anyone else? How long can I realistically expect them to last? Do I measure usageby months and/or mileage and type of use (gentle, mild, moderate, heavy)?I bought a pair of Men's Targhee IV Wide Waterproof Hiking Shoes for $145. 80 on April 22, 2024. I wore them just about every day for approximately 208 days, 2 miles a day on paved country roads, walking my dog Willie Boy. Mild usage I would say. They have developed a loud squeak and there is no longer any support (it feels like something gave out. Is this possible?) making them annoying and uncomfortable to wear. There is no visible signs of damage. Plenty of tread left. Before this, the shoe was a five all around. So the shoes ... MoreExpectations.What are my expectations when I purchase a pair of shoes from Keen or anyone else? I’m a solid size 11 Wide. Hard to find really good fitting “wide” shoes—always seem a little tight in the width direction. With that said, I’ve found these to be actually a good fit in both length and width. Simply because of that, I’m a repeat purchase of the near exact same shoe. (My previous shoe was the leather style type). The underlying reason why I went ahead and bought a second pair is that my first pair’s inside heel cloth material started to tear through after about 2 yrs of normal walking wear. Never had a shoe that did that.If I could, I’d get that repaired locally, or send them back, but don’t know if that is cost effective or worth my time pursuing. So I went ahead and bought a second pair in anticipation of having to toss the first pair pretty soon.
