This review is written from the perspective of my son who built the entire set in about 8 hours. Thought it would help to get his insight. This set was the best lego set i have ever bought. i love the theme of lego minecraft and i have gotten the village before so when this set came out i thought it would be awesome if i got it! the mini figures are AWESOME i especially love how the bats wings can fold up, and how the large slime can turn into baby slimes! its EXTREMELY tall and the inside actually looks like a lego minecraft mineshaft! my 2 favorite parts is the minecart elavator, and how the bats can hang on the ceiling! i totally recommend this set!

I had to wait longer than expected for the shipment (took about 3.5 weeks). But wow! For the price, you're getting a very good rendition of a retired and very pricey Lego set.The quality/fit and finish of the bricks and components are about an 8.5/9 out of 10 when compared to genuine. They come packed in Lego style numbered bags and legit looking instructions. Our set didn't come with one piece (the light up piece?) But it doesn't make or break the set in any way. As others may have mentioned, the colors are slightly off and some of the mini-figs are just barely "off" (like 97.5% perfect).Al in all, it's not a bad deal for something that, unless you're willing to pay an arm and a leg for, is hard to come by. I'm not into Minecraft, but my son has played it a few times, so I picked this up. In hindsight I wish I had picked up the London tower bridge set instead, as it would've been a funner build for us and something that displays much better. But even as a non minecraft fan, the design here is really well done. Plenty of figures, both humanoid and otherwise, and some of the play features are pretty well thought out.I would've wished for a real track though and real wheels for the carts, as the way it was done is at least visually alright, but physically for play, it leaves quite a bit to be desired.I kept thinking how small this was during the build, since the size kind of sneaks up on you, but when it's finished it's at least a decent size. But since it's ... MoreI'm not into Minecraft, but my son has played it a few times, so I picked this up. If you're not, then you may be happier going with another kit.

Play of finished set interrupted by bedtime but resumed boxing day....all boxing day.Ever since it has remained proudly displayed on the coffee table, where it was built. The mini-figures must have commanding views of the lounge. I don't know where to put it, it is so large, I mourn the loss of the coffee table.A very happy little boy. Christmas would have been a disaster without it, he made sure it was the only thing on his letter to Father Christmas, he didn't want to take any chances he'd get something else on the list instead: his school friends said it was so expensive he had no chance!Personally I prefer Lego Technic cars, tractors, forklifts and so on and I live in hope my son one day invites me to help him assemble a differential or some tricky suspension, but it is an impressive set and having to navigate around it many times each day will be good exercise.
This set is great,I liked the little first night shelter that is hidden away, the armour stand piece and the new mobs! What I like especially is the fact that you can change the charged creeper into a normal creeper.the minecart track is great, but the cart can get stuck or fall off though and also the elevator sometimes jams at a certain point and I like in the back you can pull out a diamond block and pull the lava flow across the track. The light brick is a great feature but would have included more so you don't have to constantly change it around. The minifigures are splendid, with the two new wolves, the little bats, the spider spawner which works quite well, the newly coloured sheep and the slime, which you can split and drop out two small ... MoreThis set is great,I liked the little first night shelter that is hidden away, the armour stand piece and the new mobs! The minifigures are splendid, with the two new wolves, the little bats, the spider spawner which works quite well, the newly coloured sheep and the slime, which you can split and drop out two small slimes! Finally I like how you can configure the landscape and change the minecart track around so it is a big loop around the entire set and also the set looks great from the back which sometimes doesn't happen. This set is great!
I'm not a Minecraft fan, but my nine year old son thinks it's the greatest thing on earth. When I ordered this I wasn't sure what to expect and when it showed up, the size of the box alone made me nervous. My son does very well with Legos and often does not need help with sets. I thought this would be the one to test him the most and I was totally blown away. Not only did he build the entire thing himself, he did it in about four days' time, which, during the summer, can be full of distractions. Considering this is an advanced set, I was impressed. The set itself is spectacular. I was incredibly jealous I wasn't able to help put it together. It is well thought out, the characters are detailed, there are lots of options for changes/personalization, and most of all the playability seems endless. I was happy to learn there are other add-on sets that link into the cave. Our friends were impressed with the whole thing and always ask about it. My son's friends think he's the coolest kid in town because he built it by himself. It was a great learning experience for him and I both.
Mountain Cave - my son desperately wanted this set but I didn’t want to spend $$$ for the real set. I found this one online and gave it a try. Ordered on Dec 7th and crossed my fingers. It actually arrived the morning of the 24th. I couldn’t be any happier with the shipping time it took to come across the ocean. The original tracking link in my email didn’t work, but I emailed the company and they promptly sent me the correct link.My son and I spent about an hour a day over the next five days putting it together. Very high quality pieces that fit tight and go together well. Instructions were easy to follow with nice color pictures. There are different configurations you can make, and the instructions show how to interchange the pieces.I’d definitely buy another set.
This is a good set and has many play features. Some of them do not show up on the Lego website, so it was fun to build it while figuring out what exactly I was building. This set has many parts not found in other Minecraft sets such as an electric creeper, a black sheep, and a golden apple among many other things.Lego has been listening to the customers and has made this set incredibly sturdy. The instruction booklet even includes pictures of all the ways to carry it.There's an elevator for a mine cart in this set. Although elevators in Minecraft exist, one for a mine cart would be impossible, so you have to use your imagination a bit. I appreciate the modular design for the rails and how it's compatible with The Nether Railway (another Minecraft set), but the mine cart in The Nether Railway works better than the one provided in this set, however this one can fit more than just a player. I also appreciate the light brick that can be placed in many locations. One of the locations is behind a pumpkin to make it look like a jack o lantern, but it would have been nicer if the pumpkin had the texture of a jack o lantern as so many pumpkins have already been released. Many creepers have been released, too, so it was nice that this one was special.
Overall, it is a great building kit for a set that is not produced anymore.- We received the set in about 3 weeks after order was placed. tracking worked well.- The packaging was not good, but there was no damage.- My 8 year old son could make it with very minor help. He had built several advanced lego sets before though.- For us the pieces were just like lego pieces. Unless you are an enthusiast, I think you would rate them the same as legos.- The instructions in the booklet are inferior to lego instructions but very good anyway.- No numbered packages. Would be good to sort the pieces before starting.- Only a couple missing parts, since we could replace them from other sets we had no problem. I've had more missing parts with original sets.
The detail and features of the Mountain Cave marked this as a favorite for my 7 yr old, even above the Avengers sets. While the cost was waaaaay outside my preferred budget, my son held onto the magazine ad of this for MONTHS and fell asleep w it every night. I broke (no pun intended) down and got it as a present and I only wish I could've had something so cool when I was that age. My DH and 6 yr old daughter love it too. The moveable red light is great with so many options, but I do have to buy 5 additional ones bc it's a shame not to have the light where all's applicable. (Though we have to wait til Feb '19 to order?) The Minecragt sets are great, I just wish the larger sets were a bit more affordable.
