Moment 1.55x Anamorphic T-Series Mobile Lens (Gold Flare)

As others have said, some of these lenses, which shipped weeks after the expected ship date, were shipped with a defective hex wrench to allow you to turn it for a landscape orientation. Was told they will ship me a new one but not given an ETA. I bought this for an overseas shoot weeks in advance and now it’s useless.Obvious suggestion: ship the lens oriented for landscape by default! “Don’t worry— you’ll only need to use the wrench once” as a response indicates that you could have saved everyone a lot of trouble to begin with.I’m sure it’s a great lens but I have no idea when I’ll be able to decide that for myself. Advice for others is to skip this one till they sort out their manufacturing issues.

I’ve been an enthusiastic Moment lens user, having purchased and used—and overlooked small issues with—6 of the 7 M-Series lenses on iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max. But the 1.55X has been kind of a bust for me, with more limited use cases than hoped. Setting aside that it does give a wide field of view (somewhere between the 14mm fisheye and the 18mm Wide) and a gentle flare, the experience has not been fully as expected:- there is quite noticeable softness at the wide edges. A bit of this might be characteristic of anamorphic, but it seems in this case to be more that the lens is not compatible with 14 Pro Max sensors. (If you only intend to shoot video, you may notice this less given that the camera crops in a bit on the frame, but I use for photo and video).- worse, the lens can’t render anything sharp when mounted on the tele. I’ve tried multiple apps, focus peaking, etc. and just nothing comes out being truly sharp when mounted on tele. Sometimes the focus peaking can’t even really detect edges. There are other comments out there stating similar by other users. This does NOT happen with the *older* 1.33x lens, which still does a decent job on the 3x, and it really (I think) lowers the utility of the 1.55x lens, because you can only use it over the 1x.The worst part is that Moment rolled this lens out in early 2023 (I bought on the pre-order but got it almost 3 months after the original promised ship date, at end of May 2023). It was marketed as totally compatible with the 14 Pro, but it’s really not, unless you are ok with the two issues mentioned above. That Moment rolled out the T-Series only 6 months from the release of the 1.55x tells me they were fully aware of these issues at the time the 1.55x M Series was released, and they should have been MUCH more transparent about it’s 14 Pro compatibility so that customers could hold off for the T-Series lenses. That’s kind of disappointing, and does cause one to question how much faith to put in the marketing of the new series of lenses.Bottom line: Not recommended unless you are on an older phone. Perhaps look at the T-Series instead, and let’s hope the marketing is true to life.

I'm still new very new to filming. Mostly used to family stuff as I like the idea of documenting our adventures especially my kids and they grow and transition through life. I wanted something sturdy and reliable and so far this has delivered that. I've seen other reviews with complaints but they seem to come to people with more skill with cinematography which doesn't apply to me. For I need it for, it gives my videos that boost I wanted. Who knows maybe some day it'll be in a autobiography about my children.
