The FS series from Nanlite are studio lights which can be operated directly from the mains. The compact design combines everything in one, the control unit, the power supply and the lamp head. The series convinces with its brightness and ease of use. The brightness of a luminaire is important, but without colour accuracy a lot of time and money is lost in post production. The FS series has a CRI of 96 and a TLCI of 98, which means that the color rendering is accurate. You can always upload the firmware via USB access. Eleven pre-programmed special effects (welding, explosion, fireworks, light bulb, candlelight, paparazzi, TV, storm, pulse, flash, color cycle) can be simulated in an easy-to-use menu that is otherwise difficult to recreate. The special effects have many different settings to refine them and achieve the exact effect you want. By using a Bowens mount, the FS-300 is compatible with a wide range of light modifiers. Of course also with the softbox series and the optional accessories from Nanlite.

Absolutely Worth The Price

I own Nanlite FS-150 and FS-300 lights. I use them in the aputure soft boxes (light dome II, mini, lantern) and these lights are a fantastic bargain. Let me explain.First of all, the light quality is far greater than the price you are paying. I put the quality of light higher than the Aputure lights as they are much more accurate and more powerful. The COB design is different from other lights in that it is a series of LED's, not a single light source exactly, which has pros and cons. The pro is that the light is a bit softer and provides a slightly softer overall light when used with a diffuser at the cost of not spotting as well as other COB designs (Forza series/Aputure). For this price point you might expect flimsy material but no, the materials used are very sturdy and much stronger than similarly priced lights such as the Aputure Amarans.Third, these light heads are all-in-one designs, which means there will be no ballasts or power sources hanging off of cables. For me, this is very important because I often shoot in cramped areas, so having anything hanging is a big NO for me. It also avoids that extra point of failure in the kit but all of this is at the cost of no battery operation. I do not battery power my lights so this is not an issue for me.The bad part of this light is that does have active cooling with a fan, but it is not nearly as loud as some have claimed. I have tested this light in a small office with bare walls 2 meters from subject. As long as you are using proper microphones and positioning, the fan noise is barely audible and a minor noise reduction in post (which I always do in real situations) will make the noise only noticeable by people trying to hear it. If you add background music underneath for a talking head, it is entirely inaudible. So, basically the noise is there, but unlikely to be a problem in real life.Considering the tremendous power and quality at this price point, its an absolute steal even at full price.

These are fantastic. Great color, excellent dimming and control options, and all in one design (no ballasts, power supplies etc. required). I've got other 300 COB lights and these are very similar power wise, but much nicer spread due to the size of the COB making them nicer in modifiers like soft boxes and lanterns. For those people complaining about how loud they are - yes they make noise, as all COB lights have some kind of cooling system and fan especially on higher output lamps, but learn how to place a mic properly and you won't hear them. If your idea of recording audio is throwing a shot gun on your camera, or putting a zoom recorder in the middle of a room - well yah, you're gonna hear these.

Bright, Color-Accurate, and Affordable
2 May 2023

Bought one when they were first announced, and loved it so much that I've ended up getting another 3.In my opinion, (especially if you can snag one on sale), there's almost no better value in lighting. They are very color accurate, with high CRI. Even though the body is mostly composite, they are solidly built. And you're getting 300w of power for relatively little money. The downsides are: no ability to power off batteries (there are work-arounds for this), and no wi-fi. But those of use who are used to hot lights are used to this workflow and don't really miss these features anyway.People have mentioned the fan noise, but honestly, unless you're placing a mic right next to it, you're not got to pick up much, if anything.

Great light with only one issue!
6 February 2022

I bought this light on sale for much less than comparable fixtures like the Amaran 200d. I am incredibly happy with my purchase. This light is much sturdier and better built than the Aputure alternatives. The only downside is, as many have already mentioned, the fan noise. The fan is always on (points for consistency, I guess) and would be noticeable in small studio environments. That being said, the quality of light is fantastic and the rolloff is very good. If you are able to snatch it on sale, there is no reason not to buy for that lower price, even with the fan.

Great! Except one of the cables wasn't working
14 April 2021

These output of these lights is bright and high quality. The build, not so much as expected at this price point. The fan noise isn't as bad as I feared, it's actually quite workible. Though one of the cables came not-working out of the box. I got a a replacement for it as they are cheap. Still, would recommend.

If all you want is high quality bright light then this is it
18 April 2021

The Nanlite FS-300 AC Led Monolight is an excellent source of bright light. This is a budget option for high quality lighting without extras that are not needed. I bought two and will be purchasing two more to use for still and motion high key lighting. The light's fan has a low noise factor that makes it practical to use for both motion and still photography for long periods of time. To me and I am sound sensitive, this light when set up correctly for filming is not heard. I highly recommend these lights.

Pretty Great Deal
20 January 2022

A very decent light that costs the same as a roll of diffusion. Been using it for one man band documentary interview work both for interior and exterior work. Works great and is simple enough. The only complaint is that the unit itself and specifically the yoke is built out of cheap material. Can easily be damaged in working conditions but hence why it's so cheap. I had to custom build a pelican case since it doesn't come with any form of protective case. I would recommend the unit. If anyone grew up in the days of magnetic ballast HMI's this is pretty mind blowing in terms of output and color accuracy. Don't forget to bring your CTO & CTS cuts since this is only mono color. Getting the umbrella/soft box for this is kinda a requirement.

Very bright but easily adjustable
1 February 2022

I photograph artwork for reproduction and have used Lowel Tota quartz lights for years and wanted to move to higher output/lower power LEDs. The Nanette FS-300 provides significantly more light at a lot less heat/power. The intensity is also easily adjustable and fits different standard light modifiers that utilize the Bogen interface. I sometimes require polarizers and have found it easy to attach smaller B+W polarizers and with LED they are not as affected by the lower heat of the LED. Overall very pleased.
