It might not be a backpacking sleeping bag, but it is certainly one heck of a camping sleeping bag. While I am mainly a backpacker, I can appreciate the design and comfort of this sleeping bag. While testing out the bag, it was cozy yet roomy. The feeling I had while napping in the bag was almost the same as having my comforter's weight laid on top of me. The gills help regulate the heat of the 20-degree bag. One thing I would have liked is a zipper at the foot box for airflow, but that’s not a big deal. The zipper system was virtually snag-free. Out of the 30 times I got in and out of the bag, the zipper only snagged once. Now, going back to how roomy this bag is, while I carry a down-filled bag when backpacking, I would prefer a synthetic material if weight wasn’t ... It gives me peace of mind that I can easily throw this in a washer when it’s dirty without worrying about the down clumping and being ruined. I would recommend using this bag on an extra-wide pad or air mattress in general to make full use of the space. On another note, a 40-degree rated version of this bag would be amazing to crash at a friend's house. In summary, I’m really looking forward to camping with this bag in the upcoming cooler weather. It just does its job too well in this warm weather.

After years of a mummy bag that was too big for me, I bought the Forte 20 as I started to camp more with both sons in scouting. The side-sleeper focus and price point are what helped sell me on it. Took it out a few times in chilly temps, around 30F, and found it did the job I was hoping! Warm enough aside from when the wind wiped through my tent that wasn't built for those conditions (IE not the bags fault for a chill). The ability for me to turn in it and actually get comfortable and not feel constrained made all the difference. Zippers are OK - I can see how some reviewers had issues with the ones on the vents as they are very tiny. Zipper on the main bag is working great though. The blanket fold took a little getting used to but totally came to love the feature. ... I have actually not used this bag in the wild yet, just at my house to see how comfortable it was regarding length, roominess, and warmth. The warmth seems good and I liked the venting options to cool down if necessary, A+ on this front. However, length is not as advertised... the description on this page says the regular size max user length is 6'6" and being 5'11" I expected to have some extra toe space but I felt like I barely fit... I would have gone with the long had I known it was going to be that tight. The roominess was good below my chest, but if I had my arms inside the bag it left very little room to move - maybe thats expected from this style of bag - I do have broad shoulders though. And as a nitpick comment, one of the straps on the compression bag ... Not a big deal, and I did try to straighten it but it seems the straps are folded/stitched after going through the fastener so I was not able to fix it. Again, just a nitpick, but I was expecting more from this Nemo product.

Excellent warmth and fit, the thermal gills were great when I used this in late spring/ early summer while camping in southern Ohio woods. The spoon shape really does help in finding a comfortable sleep position as it’s not as restrictive in the hips and knees. The storm collar was great for preventing drafts in the cool nights/ early morning. The loft added a lot of comfort to my sleep pad. The bag is definitely not the lightest of sleep systems, so if you’re trying to be weight conscious for longer hikes/ thru hiking, you may want to look into a lighter weight options. For car camping/ overnight/ short trips, I didn’t have an issue with the extra weight. The only other real issue I had was that the zipper tended to stick, which may be solved after breaking in a ... First, let me say that this bag is very comfortable. Every time I got in I felt very cozy and it was hard to get out in the mornings. The material feels silky and soft against the skin without immediately inducing sweating. The engineering of the bag also allows you to move around a bit while sleeping, as I tend to do. That being said, while there is room to shift a little bit, you may need to adjust the bag as necessary to remain comfortable around your body—it is a mummy bag, after all. I run pretty hot and was able to use this bag in the mid 40s with just a base layer on. The pillow pocket is very handy and was able to fit my Nemo Fillo in just fine. The loft is awesome on this bag, as well. The "Thermo Gill" technology is an interesting concept and while I do believe the vents allow heat to escape, I am unsure how noticeable it is. I also found the zippers to be a bit cumbersome. The Thermo Gill zippers were easy to open but took a few attempts to close. The same can be said for the entry zip. It's a beefy zipper (which I like and am thankful for) but it did seem to catch on the fabric easily. Finally, the "Blanket Fold" draft collar did not lay flat and would fall on my face with just a little jostling of the bag. I can see this feature being really handy when temps are lower, but it just felt like a nuisance to me. For these reasons I deducted one star.Overall, this is a very nice bag that I plan to use whenever I can on solo trips or when not with my partner. I believe the previous version of this bag could be zipped together but it is unclear if that feature was carried over to the current model.
Overall, sleeping bag is very comfortable material. I camped 3 nights straight, when the weather was 85/60. Going to bed at night was boarderline uncomfortable, but, this bag material really made it feel much better. The reason it is 3star.....Im an average size Man, 5'9" - 210lbs. I am a side sleeper, and toss and turn. This sleeping bag was very tight on my body. There was hardly no extra room inside, even to move my arms to a different position. I felt pinned down inside it, fully zipped. Maybe this is the design to keep the material close to the body, so the body heat stays in....not sure, but it was uncomfortable at times.
Took this camping last weekend in Idyllwild. Temperatures were ~50 (F). My overall summary of the sleeping bag is that it is warm, incredibly comfortable, but bulky. This is a 20F bag, so it was definitely overkill for the 50F weather at night. I left the bag unzipped and was still quite warm in it. The bag had zippers to help vent heat, as well as smaller zippers that helped vent out some heat. This helped since it was a pretty warm night. The bag was soft with a lot of cushioning, and also had enough space that I felt that I could move around. The hood felt nice and cushioned; with an extra scarf-like layer that could keep my head warm if needed. The reason I don't give this bag a 5-star review is the size, and weight.Even without weighing it myself, it was ... This limits the functionality to car-camping and makes this a non-contender for backpacking.Even with the compression sack, the bag was still quite bulky and would not be comfortable carried for a long time.
Awesome sleeping bag. Got this to replace a 10 year old 32 degree Marmot bag. Nothing against my former bag, but this felt like a total upgrade. The bag is pretty roomy which is nice since it allows for rolling around in the bag without turning the bag itself (important to keep the bottom side down since it has less insulation and a sleeping pad helps with that). The pillow pocket is clever and makes a huge difference. Whether you use an inflatable pillow or just stuff a jacket or some other clothes in there, the pocket keeps it in place so you wake up less due to your head being on solid ground. The vents are also a nice feature as they expand the comfort range of the bag. I used this mostly in 40-60 degree weather and was plenty warm. I spend one night in it in a ... I spend one night in it in a heated ski hut (probably about 80 degrees) and with the vents open and the top bit folded down, I didn't feel like I was roasting alive either. The included stuff sack is attached which is great since you won't lose it. It also comes with built in straps so you can really compress this thing down to it's true minimum size. It also came with a big mesh bag for long term storage. No complaints whatsoever.
I bought the long version because of its temperature rating and fit and because I wanted a bag that would go into the sleeping bag compartment of my Osprey Aether 65 pack. I tried the bag in the store and was happy with the way it fit me. When I got it home I discovered two serious errors in its specifications which were not the fault of REI because the NEMO website description contains the same errors. First, the weight of the bag is supposed to be 3 lbs. 2 oz. without the stuff sack; mine weighed 3 lbs. 9 oz. Second, the compression stuff sack is supposed to be 9 x 11.5 inches; mine was 9 x 18 inches and when compressed as much as I could possibly do without splitting seams, was 9 x 16 inches. There is no way this bag will fit into my pack. I will be taking it ... I’ve had my eye on this brand/style of sleeping bag for a long time. I ordered “men’s regular” size and was shocked to see how small the bag was, length wise. As a backpacker, I ordered men’s because the weight was considerably less than women’s regular. It’s supposed to fit up to 6ft. Not a lot of wiggle room (in length) like I was expecting. I’m 5’7, and it was just enough headspace, so would not recommend for anyone taller. I’m a side sleeper and I was impressed that I could lay on my side and not be constrained as advertised. Testing it out at home, it was cozy. Highly considering exchanging for the larger one in length and just taking on those extra ounces for comfort. Came with its own stuff sack and is very compact and lightweight so kudos to that. Would ... MoreI’ve had my eye on this brand/style of sleeping bag for a long time.
