857 is the best

This new version of the 857 is similar to the 2 previous versions. The addition of the roll bar is fine. I also have the 1300 walking shoe, which has the roll bar. So, I am used to this technology. These cross trainers have been my go-to shoe for years for now. I get the support and comfort that I need, using them for exercise or as my everyday shoe. Wish the colors were brighter. The grayish accent is Ok, but I prefer the blue from the previous versions. Hope New Balance continues to make this model. When I could not find them for months, I thought I would never find a comfortable shoe again.

Okay so for reference I'm 29yo, I have a casual style and usually wear things like Nike air, Adidas etc but I find them too narrow, unsupportive and Ican't wear them for long periods. I wanted something that didn't look completely like runners but feel like runners on your feet. I have NB Wide runners for exercise and loveeee them but struggle to find a wide more casual shoe for daily wear (why don't companies make wide casual looking supportive shoes !?!). I came across these and was on the fence. I was worried they'd look too much like runners and give me a mum/dad or orthopaedic vibe. I bit the bullet and got them and oh my lordy they're comfortable. I ended up swapping the laces to longer flat laces and I think that helped with the style if anyone's worried ... MoreOkay so for reference I'm 29yo, I have a casual style and usually wear things like Nike air, Adidas etc but I find them too narrow, unsupportive and Ican't wear them for long periods. I wear these everyday for work in a casual office environment and they're some of the comfiest shoes I've worn daily. Don't even have to change shoes for my lunch time walk.100% recommend.

I like these shoes just fine. I buy them about every 3-4 months because I have sensitive feet that begin to ache after wearing them for about that long. That's not long! I feel the arches starting to flatten & I know it's time to buy another pair. I'm not even wearing them for athletics, just errands, etc. I wish I got more "mileage" out of them especially since they cost $140. I also use a pressure relief insole which is another $40. That's a lot of money for just a few months. But the bottom line is, I can wear them better than any other shoe. I can't live in pain.

Good Shoes
5 February 2024

Bought these to use at the gym as I needed different shoes for weight training. These shoes seem to be well suited for my purposes. Some reviewers mentioned they weren’t comfortable for walking. Walking shoes may be better suited for walking. These shoe help distribute my weight and I feel I have better support and stability when lifting.

Heel box too low!
14 February 2023

I love New Balance and have worn them for years. That being said, I did not like this shoe. My chief compliant was that the heel box was too low and even though laced up correctly my foot still slipped up and down. I wear an 8N. Like another reviewer I did not like the wide appearance of the toe box which gave the shoe an appearance of an "orthopedic look"! I would have preferred leather uppers. I HAVE to have a shoe with a removable footbed which limits what shoe I buy. RETURNED.

I haven't worn them yet, but first impression is meh...

I've been wearing the NB 857 in 2 versions for many years. I have issues with my feet & also wear a cushioned insole inside this shoe. I saw that the 857 v2 was sold out & I was excited that NB put out an updated version. I tried the new shoes on immediately after receiving them to make sure they fit. The length was fine but I even though my feet are pretty narrow, I wear a WIDE to give me more toe box width. I immediately noticed my foot was being squeezed at the side of my toes which I had never felt before on a new 857 wide. So, I'll try them when my current pair of v2 wear out & will post an updated review if my opinion changes. I normally wouldn't have reviewed these until I give them an actual try, but NB has asked me twice to review these so here I am!

Narrower than previous versions
19 December 2022

I have flat feet and have been wearing the 857 for over a decade. This version is by far the worst. The toe box is narrower than prior versions, the heel is wider, and the style looks even more orthopedic than usual. I had to return my usual size and order an extra size wider. I also had to change the lacing to help keep my heel down. There's nothing that can be done about the orthopedic look other than accepting it in order to get the extra foot stability. I'd buy older versions of this shoe instead except that they are sold out in my size from other retailers. I hope New Balance makes a v4 that is more aligned with prior versions.

Replacing discontinued Style
16 February 2024

Shoe looked great however I was told by the Chat Representative to go with a wide and the shoes were too wide....heel kept sliding up and the shoes felt somewhat stretched out from being worn. I returned the shoes. Still trying to find a shoe to buy that is comparable to the style 624 New Balance has discontinued. So far...no luck and I have ordered two different styles.

Runs wide
20 June 2024

I'm pleased with these shoes. Comfortable to wear all day around the house or running errands. I purchased them to replace a pair of women's 608v5. They run wide. I normally order wide width but probably could have gone with regular. Took a few days to get used to the fit. I like that they have a leather upper because I think it wears better than fabric.

Shoelace hole reinforcement
28 January 2023

The shoe provides great support, however I have one comment. It needs shoelace hole reinforcements. I need to pull my shoelaces really tight because of my narrow width even though I buy a narrow size. I end up having a shoemaker add grummets to my shoes to prevent the holes from tearing. This adds an additional cost to an already expensive shoe. I've worn NB shoes for many years & have had to add them every time.
