This new version of the 857 is similar to the 2 previous versions. The addition of the roll bar is fine. I also have the 1300 walking shoe, which has the roll bar. So, I am used to this technology. These cross trainers have been my go-to shoe for years for now. I get the support and comfort that I need, using them for exercise or as my everyday shoe. Wish the colors were brighter. The grayish accent is Ok, but I prefer the blue from the previous versions. Hope New Balance continues to make this model. When I could not find them for months, I thought I would never find a comfortable shoe again.

Best jogger for me. Just bought the 4th pair . Such great support. Orthotics fit perfectly. First pair bought in store and the detail applied to get correct shoe for my troublesome feet was amazing. The online customer service is excellent and always rapid delivery.

These shoes are my favourite style and colour. This is the fourth pair of New Balance I have bought from Athletes Foot and am always happy with the comfort and style. Excellent on line purchase and delivery service. I was able to contact supplier and check size details before final purchase.

I've been buying these shoes for years because they just deliver the goods on support and comfort. Every time I visit my podiatrist I ask if these are still her recommendation and without hesitation she says yes. I have to wear orthotics and these are just so perfect for them. I wear them as much as is possible and they last for ages.
I love New Balance and have worn them for years. That being said, I did not like this shoe. My chief compliant was that the heel box was too low and even though laced up correctly my foot still slipped up and down. I wear an 8N. Like another reviewer I did not like the wide appearance of the toe box which gave the shoe an appearance of an "orthopedic look"! I would have preferred leather uppers. I HAVE to have a shoe with a removable footbed which limits what shoe I buy. RETURNED.
I've been wearing the NB 857 in 2 versions for many years. I have issues with my feet & also wear a cushioned insole inside this shoe. I saw that the 857 v2 was sold out & I was excited that NB put out an updated version. I tried the new shoes on immediately after receiving them to make sure they fit. The length was fine but I even though my feet are pretty narrow, I wear a WIDE to give me more toe box width. I immediately noticed my foot was being squeezed at the side of my toes which I had never felt before on a new 857 wide. So, I'll try them when my current pair of v2 wear out & will post an updated review if my opinion changes. I normally wouldn't have reviewed these until I give them an actual try, but NB has asked me twice to review these so here I am!
I have flat feet and have been wearing the 857 for over a decade. This version is by far the worst. The toe box is narrower than prior versions, the heel is wider, and the style looks even more orthopedic than usual. I had to return my usual size and order an extra size wider. I also had to change the lacing to help keep my heel down. There's nothing that can be done about the orthopedic look other than accepting it in order to get the extra foot stability. I'd buy older versions of this shoe instead except that they are sold out in my size from other retailers. I hope New Balance makes a v4 that is more aligned with prior versions.
The shoe provides great support, however I have one comment. It needs shoelace hole reinforcements. I need to pull my shoelaces really tight because of my narrow width even though I buy a narrow size. I end up having a shoemaker add grummets to my shoes to prevent the holes from tearing. This adds an additional cost to an already expensive shoe. I've worn NB shoes for many years & have had to add them every time.
Well cushioned and very supportive. Deep enough for my fairly chunky orthotics. Nice quality leather - I always choose leather over fabric because my big toe wears through fabric. New Balance are the only brand wide enough for my wide feet and small bunions. I have been wearing the 634 D width for years, these seem like a more supportive option. 1 star deducted because they top of the shoe cuts into my ankle slightly if I wear thin socks. I think it would be better with a longer tongue or a slightly higher cut.
I buy New Balance shoes because they are one of the few companies that have narrow styles and I am usually very pleased with the fit. However, while the overall fit of this product is good, it could use more arch support and the shoe tongue is way to skinny. I got blisters around the front of my ankles because the shoe tongue is not wide enough to give additional cushion there. So be sure to check the width of the tongue before you wear this product in case you want to return it.
