Some of the other features include Alexa voice control, super slow motion, enhanced night vision and they even have an extreme weather mode to help get images in thick fog or heavy rain. In parking mode, it automatically senses bumps to initiate recording. This camera also comes with 3 months of free Emergency SOS service that will contact emergency services if the need arises. Before you use this camera, you will need to set your language and region settings. There is solid mount that attaches to your windshield and included a port for the mini-USB cable. What is nice about this is you do not have to unplug the camera to remove it, you simply just remove the camera. Once you get the mount affixed on the windshield all you need to do is mount the camera using the magnetic arm.The Nextbase software is a little clunky. The interface is okay but it does take time for the video thumbnails to load and even longer for the videos to buffer. Each video is has a map, speed, GPS coordinates and direction of travel. The video recording is excellent. Starting with mounting, the 622GW sports a mounting base that also incorporates the power source. This means that the 622GW can be easily affixed or removed via magnetic mount and supplied with power without the need to plug in the power source directly to the camera. Once mounted, the ball joint allows you to fine tune your positioning; a lot of other dash cams are static once mounted, so this is a huge plus. The 3" touchscreen is quite large when in use and can double as a screensaver (ie., a digital speedometer) while you're in motion. It becomes less of a distraction. And that's a good thing.A quick blurb on video quality....it's dang good. Ok moving on.Once you're plugged in and ready to move, there are a couple of things to note: the recordings are 1, 2 or 3 minute intervals, meaning it will cut a new video at each interval allowing for its most important feature. The 622GW has the ability to detect unusual shifts in motion (is hard braking, sharp turns, hard acceleration, etc.). This is particularly important because the camera will recognize this and tag your video with an icon when such activity happens. This makes it extremely easy to search for them when you need to. The most obvious types of motion that we are all interested in are fender benders and the like, and this camera will capture those sudden jolts with ease. And it doesn't end there. When parked, the Intelligent Parking Mode records any bump or physical movements it detects, which is pretty awesome. The 622GW is equipped with a GPS sensor that keeps track of your car's physical location. This is particularly important in the event of an incident. This location metadata can be very useful in cases where you're not familiar with the area or providing proof of where an incident took place. Moreover, GPS will capture speeds traveled to further aid in situations where speed was considered a factor and proving you were not at fault. You will have all the evidence you need if you need to turn to law enforcement. One big selling point of this dashcam is the inclusion of what3words, a much simpler way of providing location information to others in an emergency situation. The main idea is to break up the world into 3 square meter segments and give each segment a unique 3 word combination. For example, if I'm at Autopia at Disneyland, I can use what3words to lookup "equality.pastime.outdoor", which would give my location to approximately 3 square meters. Jumping back to the 622GW, if you're in an emergency situation (and you have adequate GPS signal), you can simply tap the what3words icon on the touchscreen and it will give you your 3 word combination that you can provide to emergency services.Speaking of emergency services, the 622GW comes with an SOS feature that will alert emergency services in the event that a crash is detected and the driver is not responsive. How it basically works is once in a crash situation, you have a few minutes to respond to the 622GW or your cellphone to effectively cancel the SOS. If you are not able to cancel the SOS, then emergency services will be contacted. There is no need to worry about false alarms; if it starts the SOS process and detects motion, then the SOS will automatically cancel. The user manual has a very thorough flow chart of the events that need to take place in order for an SOS to initiate. The last couple of things I want to mention are the MyNextbase Connect app and the MyNextbase Player (PC). On the MyNextbase Connect app, you can change settings on the dash cam as if you were doing it directly from the dash cam itself. You’ll also be able to see a live feed of your dash cam. Also, you’ll be able to set up SOS (which is free for the first year, then a premium is required). Another convenient thing you’ll be able to do is download your videos directly to your phone, which is probably the biggest reason why you would have the app in the first place. Finally, firmware updates can be done through the app when an update is available. The app itself is very easy to navigate through and does put a lot of emphasis on SOS setup and accessibility. On the MyNextbase Player (which you’ll have to download and install as well), you’ll be able to view your videos and see all telemetry information, including G-sensor statistics and your GPS location shown using Google Maps. I don’t see many folks using this application often, but if you have to, it is available for download. Now for the cons: I only have one gripe with the unit, and it’s how difficult it was to update the firmware using the MyNextbase App. I had connectivity issues with the 622GW during the firmware upload process, both on Android and iOS. I had to go a manual route where you physically copy the binary files into the SD card and connect the 622GW to a PC. There is a detailed set of instructions on how to do this on the Nextbase website. As of this review, I have updated the firmware to 11.1. Whew. I don’t know if it’s user error on my part, but I hope Nextbase is aware of this and maybe can follow up.Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with the 622GW. It’s fun to tinker with at first and get dialed in for your personal use, but it’s one of those things that just becomes part of your vehicle that you should rarely put hands on, as it should be. Just know that when that moment arrives where you need a hand, the Nextbase 622GW will be there. I highly recommend this camera.

In addition living in a city where catalytic converters and other crime against cars is on the rise I felt like now was as good a time as any to finally get one.Inside the box you get the camera unit, the windshield mount, a spare glue pad, the power cable (mini-USB to cigarette lighter adapter), a mini-USB charging cable, and a quick start guide to installation and use. You will also need a micro SD card which isn’t included and they recommend using their NextBase brand for best results (I’m not really familiar with SD Card technology so I can’t speak to if its NEEDED or what other cards may have similar speed and specs to work instead). Out of the box you need to charge the camera unit for at least a couple hours before it’s ready for use but after that its a simple process to insert the SD Card, attach the mount in your car, run the wire and mount the camera. As far as the installation went I was kind of let down because the power is supplied from the window mount into the cigarette power socket instead of through the wires under the dashboard. While this was a much simpler process it looks really bad having a bundle of wires drooping down the center console (unless there was a way to pull the dash apart to hide the wires somehow which I didn’t find). You can alter settings in the camera touchscreen to set the video length, resolution, and exposure settings. In order to view your videos you can either navigate to the library in the camera itself (small screen so its hard to see details if you need to) or download and synch up the app on your phone. The videos do not download to your phone automatically but you can view them on your phone to see a larger picture (depending on your phone screen) or download them. I wasn’t able to find a way for the camera to automatically record when the car was off, continuously or via motion detected. As long as the camera is angled correctly the 4K resolution was clear enough to get license plates from the video. It recommends clearing and formatting the SD Card every couple days but I was able to record my daily commute and errands for three days without encountering any errors (approximately 3-4 hours total). For the purposes of keeping a video record in case of an accident this camera should be more than sufficient for your needs. While the end result is clear video and audio for a handful of hours at least, the lack of an option to record when not driving is a downside in my opinion. Further the seeming lack of being able to hide the power cable in the car’s frame/under the plastic dash panels is a real downside, I imagine, for most people but as for the purposes of being able to test it out I appreciate the simplicity of the cigarette lighter plug. I think depending on what you’re looking for the camera to do and how much you value the neatness of your front driving space this is possibly a pass unless you just need a simple record of your driving. If that’s the case then you’ll find the 4K video and clear audio more than sufficient for your needs.

Clear Audio and Video With Room For Improvement

I was excited to get a NextBase 622GW 4K Dash Cam after years of watching videos online of the crazy things caught on camera around the world on dash cams.

The mount itself uses a 3M adhesive for use on your windshield. You’ll need to supply your own microSD card, to take advantage of local recordings, and is inserted directly into the camera prior to mounting. The mount itself doubles as the power deliver for the camera, with the USB cable plugged directly into the mount. The camera uses a magnetic connection to attach and hold itself in place. Don’t worry if you’re a bit crooked with mounting, as the camera can be adjusted once it’s mounted. At no time during my use, did the camera come loose or fall out of place while driving along rural roads at reasonable speeds. If you’re worried the mount itself won’t hold on to your windshield with the 3M adhesive, I’d recommend using an alcohol wipe or some rubbing alcohol and lint free cloth to clean up the mounting area. I will say, there is a ferrite ring which will weight the power cable down. I ended up buying some simple small adhesive clips at my neighborhood hardware store designed to solve for this kind of thing.Since the mount design is much smaller than a suction mount, you’ll find placement much easier. Depending on your vehicle (in my case an SUV), I was able to tuck this neatly behind the rear view camera. This allowed me to have immediate access to the camera and keeping my view obstructed along the windscreen. Once you power on the camera, you’ll be presented with an easy setup process to select your language and region settings. If you’d like to take advantage of live view and saving recordings directly to your smartphone, you’ll need to download the “MyNextBase” app, which is free on the appropriate App Store. The device then pairs using bluetooth, at which point it will check for a firmware update. Since there was a firmware update, it walked through auto-connecting over WiFi, even presenting an option to connect manually to the camera’s connection with a password (such a great feature). The update process for me only took a couple of minutes. The camera also detected the microSD card and prompted me to format. Walking through the settings, there were some things I would recommend checking out. Namely whether you want the speed, model of the camera, or your license plate stamped on recordings. Since I plan on sharing recordings on various content, I opted to exclude some of the stamps, and found this setting very helpful. There is also the resolution settings, with the camera being on default 4K at 30 frames per second (fps), with the ability to step down to 1440 at 60 fps among others. As this camera had 4K, I wanted to capture more detail as I drove around, expecting this would lead to better overall quality. You can also enable Alexa integration with your compatible device using the Alexa app. The setup process took only a minute or two, and I immediately noticed the Alexa app prompt that it had added my camera.Picture quality was much better than I was expecting, given that my last camera was 1080P, this was a nice upgrade with better resolution. Low light performance also benefitted from the finer detail, allowing me to make out license plates much further away while reviewing captures. Daytime picture is great, allowing you to zoom in a bit further than 1080 while maintaining a higher quality. The lens being out a bit, gives this a closer to windshield view, I found this led to lower glare on my recordings; especially while driving into direct sunlight. The app features are a bit minimal for this camera, but do allow the use of the SOS feature to call for help; with the live view being my most used feature. Since I had this hidden slightly behind the camera, I don’t get the best overall view of the screen. The live view provides you a real time view of the camera, so long as you maintain the connection to the camera. This camera also includes various other features, such as Timelapse recordings and image stabilization (which is off by default). I’m not sure why this was shipped with image stabilization off, but it does really help when using this on rural roads that are a bit bumpier. Since the camera can be mounted and dismounted easily, you’ll find that it’s easy to get a hold of the memory card or using the USB port to charge the camera outside the vehicle. There is also an expansion port on the side, which allows for a rear cabin facing camera; which is great for those using this with ride sharing, or want to capture your surroundings.Overall, this is an easy recommendation. The installation and setup took only about 30 minutes in my case, from removing panels to hide the wire using the included pry tool, and completing the setup on the device. The picture quality is better than some other dash cams I’ve used previously, making reading license plates easy, and the stamp customization is a plus. The GPS function meant I didn’t need to fiddle around with time and date settings. Nextbase really did do a great job with how easy it is to use, and the screen is just the right size for most users.

Excellent DashCam for Motorcycles

That made me comfortable knowing that a new mount/cam won’t fall off on the ride, and can now buy a more expensive dashcam with actual features. The first thing I noticed when researching this particular dashcam, is that the file lengths are only 1, 2, and 3 minutes (vs my 15 minutes on my cheap dashcam). The UK support told me the reason lengths are so short is to quickly save files and not have gaps between files. For reference, there would always be a 2-3 second gap between my 15 minute files. Even though that does not sound like much – it is, especially if you want to take an image that occurred in those 2-3 seconds! It can be frustrating! When the dashcam arrived, there is a rather large notice on the box “BE SURE TO USE A NextBase microSD card, Available separately” and the instructions also note the importance of using their card versus another other card, even if it’s a U3 rated card. I take issue with this – if it is important to use their own card, then they should *include* a card, don’t sell it separately! Especially since their branded cards are much more expensive than regular U3 cards. They say you *can* use any cards, but it will eventually fail…so again, this is very lousy way to force you to buy their card after you’ve spent a lot of money on the original dashcam.Another lousy thing, they have a polarizing filter you can add, which for sure would help any ride, but did they include that? No, of course not! So now I’m reading the instructions and I have 2 items I should have, but don’t! That was very frustrating.I highly recommend downloading the manual from their website, as the one included doesn’t really have enough info on the configuration/settings, THERE ARE A LOT!After configuring all the settings (including turning Image Stabilization on and setting Impact Sensitivity to low), I mounted it camera to my bike, and took off for a ride towards and around Downtown Los Angeles. On my way down there, I noticed that the camera went into Protect mode a few times – because it thought I was in an accident. I wound up having to turn off Impact Sensitivity, which I also did on my previous dashcam so that was expected – it’s a bike, it’s going to bounce a lot.I did not bother using the NextBase IOS app, but I did use the PC app, and what an experience! As you can see from the picture, the player shows you the video, the speed, the location, how much the image stabilizer is working, and the file route segment in a google maps corner. In this example it only shows a short street because I have not combined any of the videos, which you can also do. This is extremely helpful, as now I can pinpoint where any cool murals I stumble into are exactly located!Lastly – the image stabilization is fantastic – my videos are all very smooth with it on! All of my previous videos on the cheap dashcam were all very bumpy.Pros:Excellent Image StabilizationTouch screen, including a button to protect the video (so it doesn’t get erased)Strong Magnetic connection from dashcam to mountUSB cable plugs into the mount, instead of the camera, and the mount separates and attaches easilyGPS and MPH (or KMH), Date and Time stamps on the video (these are options that can be turned on or off, including adding your license place on the video)Ability to merge files to a longer videoCons:NextBase branded/formatted cards are required, but they do not include itPolarizing filter recommended, also not includedNextBase Player takes a long time to load 37 HD files(for this ride) and it looks like the player gets stuck/frozen, but it’s just creating the thumbnails, so be patient.2 hour ride = 28GB, I only have a 64GB card, so I’ll have to wait until there is a sale on their cards to buy a much bigger one, even though I have multiple 256GB U3 cards, which if I believe them, will all fail eventually. As you can see, there aren’t that many cons on this – the 2 cons are essentially lousy sales techniques, and loading a lot of video files is expected to be slow.I *love* this dashcam – for my bike, I’m so glad I contacted UK support prior to ordering this, otherwise I would not have ordered it thinking that 3 minute video files are totally useless. I did not think to ask support about the importance of their branded cards, if I had, then I would have gone ahead and ordered their cards, instead of ordering mine (which I am not even going to bother testing).I guess that is a reminder to always read online manuals / FAQs of any expensive products to make sure it will meet your expectations!

I mounted the dash cam high up on the windshield centered beneath the rear view mirror. A rear camera is also available for purchase from Nextbase. The 622 GW dash cam has a small battery inside it that allows it to continue to video once the vehicle is stopped and power from the vehicle is off. This should overcome the issue of new vehicles that turn off the vehicle's engine when it comes to a stop at a red light or other reasons causing dash cams to stop recording. The 622 GW Nextbase will continue recording during these events, a very nice and well thought out feature. As for the video quality, it is top-of-the-line! The Nextbase dash cam will record up to 4k quality! The images are ultra clear, are stabilized by the cam's digital image stabilization system, can record in super slow or extreme weather mode, has Alexa build in, is Bluetooth equipped and has an emergency SOS response system in the event of an accident or other emergency event; a nice package of features to be sure! It also has a three word precise global location capability called "What3Words" that can be critical in the event of an accident, guiding emergency services to your precise location. This works even when you are offline.Fog can be a major cause of accidents and built-in algorithms allow the Nextbase 622GW Dash Cam to enhance images in misty/foggy conditions and record the clearest images possible. With its Bluetooth connection to Amazon's Alexa, you can ask to play music, place calls, get directions, find parking, plus control the dash cam. You can ask Alexa to send dash cam videos to your smarphone, start/stop recording, and protect a file all while keeping your eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel. An intelligent parking mode automatically records when motion is detected so that your vehicle is protected against damage and theft all the time.No longer are images wobbly, license plates blurred or unclear.

Invaluable tool for daily driving

As someone who travels a lot by car this thing is invaluable. You always hope you don't actually need to review footage but its kind of fun to do so after the fact once you get used to save protecting the files.Resolution being 4k the footage looks great, even in poor weather conditions which is nice you never have to worry about it after your initial setup. In my case my car dash is lighter color so it reflects from sunlight during the day. This isn't a problem because the camera has a polarized lens you simple turn and it cuts the reflection right off which i was kind of surprised about considering it was a massive problem at first. You can turn this to 1440p and do 60fps or even 1080p; and do 120fps making the footage extremely smooth and even be able to watch ... MoreAs someone who travels a lot by car this thing is invaluable. You can turn this to 1440p and do 60fps or even 1080p; and do 120fps making the footage extremely smooth and even be able to watch slow motion. I honestly think 4k is overkill and use the 1440p at 60 as its the perfect inbetween. There is image stabilization but i honestly can't tell a difference with it on or off there both smooth in playback. It has a battery built in that you cant take out but it only uses that when your car is off if you turn on the security mode or you crash and it loses power etc the battery takes over. Otherwise it goes to the cigarette lighter adapter and comes with a little tool that lets you run the wires. Its got wifi 5ghz and bluetooth 5.0 so you can connect your phone no matter what it is. The app is fairly basic but does the job. The thing i really dislike is if you don't enable the dual files option on the camera itself it doesnt let you watch the videos on your phone on the spot. It will only let you watch the low res (dual mode means it creates a lower res version) on your phone wirelessly.I went with a 64gb sd card also from nextbase and had no issues at all there. Goes in and out smooth and the card can save up to around 40mins of footage total. If you haven't used one of these before you basically "protect" files you need to save which can be in 1, 2, or 3 min blocks of time, otherwise it simply goes back and rewrites that memory repeatedly to make sure you don't run out of space. That being said if you think your going to want to save a ton and not take your card out to transfer files from it then i would suggest getting higher memory then i did as this is essentially 40 events and depending on how much you drive would fill quickly. It has alexa and some sos emergency response features however I opted not to use those in the settings but they seem super nice if you are into that automation. You can add additional cabin and rear view cameras to this according to the manual super easy which i saw in options when setting up also to make a complete package.I feel like it's a tragedy that more people don't use dash cams generally speaking in America vs places like European countries where almost everyone does. It gives you a nice piece of mind just knowing you will be recording in case something happens being able to review that might be the difference in your car insurance or not.

On the back is a nice 3” touchscreen, LEDs that light up while charging and/or when the dash cam is active, the Nextbase protection button that keeps footage from being erased, and a microphone. USB charging port is on the bottom. A light sensor and reset button is located on top. SD Card slot and power button are located on the left. The dash cam take use up to 128GB SD card. And to the right side is a HD-Out port for rear cam attachment. Some of the features of this amazing dash cam are:* 4K video: but resolution can be changed in the Settings* SOS: Emergency SOS System in case you can’t call for help.* what3words: precise global location using just 3 words. I’ve used that app separately before and it’s pretty cool.* Alexa: you can connect to play music, make calls, get directions etc.* Intelligent Parking Mode: records with motion is detected so that your car and any valuables are safe against damage/theft at all times. Before installing, it is recommend that you charge the dash cam with the included USB cable for at least 2 hours. While charing mine, I noticed that the dash cam became very warm to the touch. Not hot or anything but just something to keep in mind. While it’s charging, you can download the Nextbase app from the App Store for iOS or the Google Play Store for Android. Following on with the app, simply ensure bluetooth is turned on on your mobile device and allow pairing. After the dash cam has successfully been paired, next is to update any firmware. Once update and fully charged, you’re ready for installation.Following along with the Quick Start Guide, simply located the spot you would like your dash cam to be placed (it is recommended to be installed on the passenger side of the vehicle). Peel the backing off the Click & Go PRO GPS Mount and press firmly against the windshield. Next plug the power cable into the top side of the mount, and run the cord along the trim at the top of the windshield and down the side passenger door, and plug into the cigarette lighter socket. Now just place your dash cam on the mount and you’re ready to go.It’s best to go into the settings and tweak them to your liking before attaching the dash cam to the mount, or while you’re driving, which would be a terrible idea. Now in my testing, driving around town with this new 4K dash cam attached to my windshield, it took a little getting used to something else besides my rearview mirror on the windshield but over time it became somewhat less noticeable. The clarity of the recordings are simply amazing. And it really brings into perspective when you have recorded footage (even if you’re not in an accident), how reckless and dangerous some people are while driving. But it’s also good to have in case of an accident or for evidence.

The digital image stabilization works fantastic, it does a great job keeping the video footage smooth with no shaking. It has What3words built in as well as Extreme weather mode and super slow motion. You can set up an SOS emergency response, where if you were in an accident, you can easily call for help with a push of a button. One of my favorite features is the built-in Alexa, ask her anything. The camera is Wi-fi enabled as well as Bluetooth which you can manipulate the camera through the NextBase app when connected to Bluetooth. The app has a lot of great features, you can hop into the settings and make the experience custom and to your liking. Another fantastic feature is when you are parked, the camera can detect motion and will record so you can catch things that go on in the parking lot when you are away in the store, like vehicle damage or thefts. The camera came with two bases that stick to the windshield with 3M tape but connect to the camera with strong magnets that have integrated power connectors to power the device as well as make it easy removal to take the camera out of your car with just one hand. I was really impressed with how well this camera works at night. This model has a new light sensor with larger pixels that capture more detail in both light and dark situations. What3wrords enables the device to tell emergency response your exact location and guide them there safely, this can even be capable when you are offline. There are so many amazing features packed into this little camera I am honestly blown away. The days of the big bulky and clunky dash cams with little features are over, this camera is everything anyone would need and more, a lot more. If you want to stick this in multiple cars but need another base, the app has a store right in it, so it makes it easy to pick up more parts if you need them without trying to search the internet for a special part. The app can be found on both the Apple Store and the Android play store.Overall, I love this camera. I am so glad I finally got a dash cam, and I am glad I chose this one. From the superb image quality, the easy installation, and wild number of useful features this dash cam is the one-stop shop, it has it all. NextBase knocked it out of the park with this one! I will recommend it to anyone who asks about dash cams.

Have you ever tried to eject a Micro SD card from a dash cam attached to the windshield? The card is so small and is spring loaded so inevitably it will pop out and fall on the floor. With this dash cam, you can access all the files on the camera using the My Nextbase app on your phone. Each clip is saved as a separate file with the date and time on the bottom of each clip so you can find the exact moment you need and take a screenshot with the touch of a button and share it to the MyNextbase Cloud or to any device or person using your standard share screen. Each clip can be locked so you can't accidentally delete it or as the SD card fills up it will delete old files but not the locked ones. The 622GW can also be controlled by voice using the Alexa App but you have to install the Alexa skill for that first. The app will walk you through setting up the dash cam and provide you with all the help you need. There are additional features that the app will provide for the cam such as Emergency SOS and Incident Aware that will upload the video to someone or your insurance company. There is a Nextbase Drivers Club that you can sign up for to receive product news and software updates and special offers as well. The dash cam uses GPS and gives you the coordinates using What3Words which is a great concept for locating your exact location within a 10 square foot area. They have mapped the entire world into 10 foot squares and gave every square 3 words unique to that square (like hat, river, boat) that will pinpoint you in the event you need assistance and there are no streets or landmarks to tell someone where you are at and using the What3Words app and inputting those 3 words, it will show your location on their map. It's a great concept that I'm glad someone finally implemented into a dash cam.The cam itself is very well made. It's made of metal as compared to other dash cams that are made of cheap plastic. The dash cam mounts to your windshield using a 3M sticker which you know will never fall off even on a hot day.I did have one problem but solved it by Googling the issue. When I connected the dash cam to my iPhone and clicked on Live View, all I got was a black screen. Before searching for a solution, I tried deleting and re-installing the app, checking all the settings, rebooting my iPhone and still I got a black screen. The solution that I found was to turn on Airplane mode on the iPhone and then the video appeared on the screen. I'm sure this is an issue that will be resolved with a future firmware update but for now, I will have to use the Control Center to turn on Airplane mode. All in all I am very pleased at the quality of the camera and the video it produces. Like a home generator, you like to know you have it in the event of an emergency but hope you will never really need it.
