Nextbase Rear View Camera

Real pain in placement and aligning the rear camera and front camera initially so as not to cause too much distraction when driving. Annoying that when you take the unit off the bracket you have to realign each time. This is easily resolved if you purchase the Nextbase Extension Cable for Rear View and Cabin View Dash Cam, but at an extra £18 I wish I'd known before hand. By using the cable you can position both cameras independently and leave the rear one in situ all the time and with a better view out the back.

Add on to Nextbase Cam..

Bought the Nextbase front camera, with a view to putting the add on rear view. Thought it was good to try out the use, clarity. It was brilliant, so now put the add on rear view and that it great also, good purchase. Also the rear view camera, doesn’t need wires to the back of the car, it all works from the front facing camera, it can also be viewed on my mobile phone and the clarity of both are great.

Excellent addition to front dashcam (Nextbase)

The Nextbase rear camera is a must for anyone with or contemplating getting a dash cam. It's easily added to the front camera and gives a clear image of the rear move. Might not be ideal for vehicles with a very low-sloped rear window but works well in our Toyato Rav and Kia Sportage and was good in my BMW3 series. I would recommend this one rather than having one permanently fitted.

Expensive but a great option

I recently purchased a Nextbase 322GW dash camera, and a large part of the reason I chose it was due to the availability of this rear-view camera module. No other dashcam (that I am aware of) offers this type of option and I wanted to be able to monitor traffic behind me as well as in front.The problem is that I drive a convertible, and most dashcams with a rear camera attach to the back window - obviously not an option when you have a convertible. There are some dashcams that offer a rear camera that can mount outside (like off the license plate bracket) but those require a lot more tricky wiring through the trunk, etc. This Nextbase solution is so much easier!Pros:Simple to install.Worked right away. The lens is telephoto, so it does not capture the driver or passenger - it aims directly out the rear window.The lens itself is on a swivel - You can make fine adjustments to the angle of view without repositioning the camera.Cons:Makes the dashcam physically larger. It's not huge, but you will have to fiddle with the location to make sure the front camera has a good view, the rear camera has a good view, and the camera itself does not block your forward view or mirror. If you think you might add a camera module to your Nextbase, do not install the adhesive mount until you test it with the module! Otherwise you might end up having to unstick it and move it.Rear camera resolution is not identical to the front camera resolution - With my 322GW, I get 1080p from the front camera but only 720p from the rear. With the more expensive Nextbase dashcams, you can get 1080p from the rear camera but I assume it's limited by the write speed to the microSD card.Expensive - Although I really like this rear-view camera, it seems pretty pricey for what it is. I feel like a better price point would be no more than $50. In fact I've read that in Europe it sells for closer to that price.Nether Pro nor Con:Compatibility: The rear camera modules do not work with every single Nexbase dashcam. Basically the 322GW is the least-expensive model they work with.In short - I'm very pleased with this rear-view camera. It does exactly what I wanted it to do and works well. My biggest knock is the price, but I'm not aware of any similar product out there that gives you a rear view without the installation issues.

Fits GW322

One problem is that with this attachment, it draws more power, and a longer cable does not work. At the cigarette lighter end, I have two USB port attachment so that I can use it for camera as well as charge mobile. I attempted to use a 3m cable to connect. It does not work. I had to use a shorter cable that cannot be hidden away.Without this rear camera I could use a normal micro SD card. This requires a higher spec SD card which adds to the total cost.

Good alternative rear view camera

I am very happy with my purchase. I wanted a rear view camera, but having a soft top car, I knew it would be impossible to have a rearview camera that could fit onto the rear windscreen. This is a great alternative and fits perfectly onto the dash cam on the front windscreen. Yes it does capture the headrests at the rear of the car, but the quality of the footage is amazing and captures vehicle registration number plates perfectly. I am very happy with my purchase.

Seamless Intergration With My Nextbase Dash Cam

I got this camera to use with my Nextbase 322 GW Dash Cam. I chose this model because I wanted to have rear video coverage, but did not want to install a stand alone unit in the rear of my car.Installation was as simple as snapping it into the port of the dash cam. I had to reboot the camera for it to recognize, but once restarted I was immediately up and running.After installation the touch screen layout changed to include an option to toggle to the rear view and back. I have attached photos to show what it now looks like.When joined both the front and rear cameras are limited to 1080P 30FPS. The rear facing camera captures video that is similar in perspective to what is seen when looking into the rear view mirror. It uses a telephoto lens with a 30 degree field of view that leaves some gaps in the side.After I connected both cameras I received a message that the SD Card I was using was not a U3 card and could not be used. It now requires a SD Card that is UHS Speed 3 and SD Speed 10. I am using it with a 128 GB SD Card and am getting 8 hours of front and 8 hours (16 hours total) of rear recording time. So remember that since there are two cameras and it only takes one SD Card, the normal recording time is half since the cameras are sharing the SD Card.This companion unit to the Nextbase Dash Cam suits my needs perfectly. Even though the rear recorded image is not as complete as a stand alone camera because of the side gaps, the convenience and simplicity is more than worth the trade off.

Simple, easy and works

Simple and easy to set up solution that eliminates running long wires through your car. Works just like the rear vision mirror. Seemlessly plugs into the base unit and works stright out of the box. The view from the rear of your car will always be better with a rear window mounted camera; however, this solution simply works. I was worried about aligning the front and rear views when installing but there was no need as the rear camera lens is adjustable so setting the perfect view was easy.

Unacceptable service

Phoned to get advice on what dash cam to buy and what rear view camera to fit a large vehicle. Advised incorrectly. When RS connect came to fit it was only then i had been advised wrong. Tried to sort with RAC Shop and they now tell me that they will only exchange the item for the correct rear view camera - but won't fit it?? I have already paid for this to be fitted with the original order, but they are adamant they can't arrange it. my advise - go to Halfords.

Works perfectly

Bought this about a week after the main dashcam 322GW. Easy to slot into the main cam, and perfect view through the car and out the rear window. I drive a hatchback so after consulting with Nextbase's superb customer support they recommended this rather than the dedicated seperate rear camera, due to some hatchbacks having problems with movement of the camera when the hatchback is opened and closed. Their advice was extremely helpful and reassuring. It uses the same SD card as the main camera, and shows a mini screen on the left hand side of the main cameras screen. I used this small screen merely to adjust the angle of the camera, and now all that shows of the car itself is the top of the rear seat and a little bit of the inner edge of the two headrests, giving a ... MoreBought this about a week after the main dashcam 322GW. The guy was an absolute diamond! So all in all I'd recommend the main dashcam and this rear view camera.
