Nikka Whisky From the Barrel, Japan 50cl Japanese whisky producer Nikka was founded in 1934 and has become Japan`s second largest distiller, producing a large range of single malts and blended whiskies between its two distilleries - Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Nikka from the Barrel is big-boned and bursting with character. Not averse to a drop of water, either. First released in 1985, Nikka's "From the barrel" is a real star, winning top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2010. The complex formula is created by blending more than 100 different batches of malt and grain whiskies. After blending, the whisky is filled into used barrels and matured for another few months. Ex Bourbon, sherry and refill hogsheads are used for ageing the whisky. This "marriage" process harmonizes all components in the formula, resulting in a mellow taste. Bottling is controlled at 51.4% ABV, almost equivalent to 90 British proof, that Nikka blenders determined through repeated experiments to achieve the ideal taste profile. The nose has flowers, fruit and spice with the full-bodied palate having sweet notes of toffee/caramel and spicy vanilla from the barrel ageing.

Nikka From The Barrel Japanese Whisky (500ml)
Delivery between 5–16 Nov $16.65

Fast delivery. Not a bad whisky. Unique taste profile and good blend. Don’t expect a single malt taste of course but very nice for the price. Quite a deep oak smell and very smooth. Great after taste where the woody taste lingers on.. is it a great whisky? Definitely not but good for what it is.

A very delightful drink. Wasted no time, got more (4 bottles) at one go. Those who first tried it, asked for more. \n\nSeller delivered like the next day from order, from own delivery fleet, and that was Sunday !! Quite a feat, good job.

Fast delivery. Hand delivered, so no packaging required. All in order. This is quintessential Japanese whisky, though it contains imported scotch. Have tasted it before and enjoyed it.

For me this is the best value Japanese Whisky you can buy. Yes its not 'true Japanese' but I enjoy this one more than Ben Nevis which is the Scotch Whisky they 'taint' the Japanese spirit with.Is it as good as say a Yamazaki 12yo or Hibiki? No but it costs just under half the price of Hibiki Harmony and Harmony is nowhere near being twice as good.If you haven't tried this one it is definitely worth it.Cheap enough to justify as a daily drinker but good enough to offer to guests.
Not sure why, but this doesn’t give me many specific notes on my nose or palate. You’d initially think that a mark against a whisky. However, it also has the undefinable characteristic that makes a classic sipper. Not sure how else to describe it other than, when I want a good plain ol’ neat whisky… this is it. It’s what I always imagined the saloon served when someone ordered “whisky.” Pleasing all around. Not at all surprised it won whiskey of the year a few years ago from W.A.
I've had people tell me this isn't a "genuine" Japanese whisky, because it's blended with some scotch whisky. Nobody seems to know the percentage of "tainting" that is done. That being said, this is a robust entry into what resellers consider Japanese whisky. It has a floral nose, with a touch of sweetness. That carries over to the palate, where there is a delicious blend of floral and honeyed sweetness, that provides a lasting sweet finish.
A very nice drop with a decent ABV that delivers on taste. I like it but it isn’t 100% Japanese whisky. It contains a reasonable amount of Ben Nevis, a distillery in Scotland owned by Nikka. Japanese law allows whisky to be imported from anywhere, blended, then re exported as Japanese whisky. It’s a nice drop though slightly misleading.
Good little staple whisky.I can use it with cocktails, coffee and even an after dinner drop.So good I ran out and replaced my staple. It's not thought provoking or complex, its just a yummy good little whisky.
I impressed my boss with this Whisky. I bought Nikka from the Barrel for his bday. He is very particular and I've been warned that buying him Whisky was risky. My boss normally drinks Chivas Regal or Dimple, Once he tasted it he was happily surprised. He said that this is something he would definitely purchase again and would want to bring into the office to display and show off the bottle.
i was excited to purchase this but now having received itI find it underwhelming.I expected , like most of the Japanese whiskies that it would be a lot smoother than it is.A bit of a burn to the throat instead of a chance to savour the coating of the mouth.I think it would suit a different drinker to me ( late Sixties) as i constantly look for tastes to appeal to my palate
