Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof (125ml)

(279 reviews)

Water-based footwear treatment, best suited for shoes made of both leather and fabric. Protects footwear from moisture and increases durability. Can be applied to both dry and damp shoes. 125 ml. In waterproof hiking and trekking boots, the actual waterproofing is provided by the membrane, which is hidden beneath the outer material. However, it’s still worth keeping the leather or fabric surface highly water-repellent. When you see advertisements showing water beading beautifully on the surface of shoes, that is precisely the result of a well-functioning treatment. Thanks to its formulation, this product is also suitable for membrane footwear, such as Gore-Tex, Texapore, DrymaxX, or eVent shoes: it does not damage the membrane hidden beneath the outer material. Like all Nikwax products, this is a PFC-free product.

Similar to other nikwax sprays as normal it coated sparingly with a little excess run off. Didn't discolour or darken the suede and a walk through wet and partly frosted fields a couple of hours later proved it's hydrophobic properties were working as intended. It's fairly innocent odour in comparison to propelled aerosol alternatives that you can taste in the back of your throat 48 hours later. No need to use nikwax in a ventilated area and a simple hand pump spray.

Dirty Fun Forest Shoes Come Clean with Nitwax!

I have used this product several times to my already waterproof Vasque Mantra day hiking shoes that I wear almost everyday as I am often out in the forest trails or gardening here in the often rainy Pacific NW. I learned the hard way after hiking in to Cape Alava trail on the coast of WA about the importance of waterproof shoes when you are out in the wilderness in the rain. Hiking out about 4 miles in sopping wet shoes and socks with a heavy pack was a lesson I decided to avoid repeating. By using Nitwax prodcuts my feet have stayed dry through many a puddle..of course this doesn't prevent plenty of mud and evergreen needles from sticking to your shoes!I also really love the Nitwax cleaner that is recommended beforehand. I start with some Dawn dish soap to get the initial dirt off and then rinse and use the Nitwax. I had likely an oil stain on my shoe in the front and applying it resulted in it going away. I'm going on my first ever cruise to the Inside Passage in Alaska so am prepping for rain and mosquitos...plus 'upping my game' by looking a bit more presentable than the regular 'funkie hippie gal unkept look. NItwax is helping my shoes to look like they haven't been slopping happily in all that dirt, mud and dust and with soles over campfires...So for a short time, again my shoes will look very nice...but let's face it, hiking shoes are meant to be dirty...that shows we are having fun adventures!

Easy to Apply, Repels Well

I've used this on nubuck, PU leather and sneakers, and it worked great on all. Was easier to apply than I expected. It repels water very well, but it's too early to tell how long it will last. Other Nikwax products that I've purchased have lasted quite well. I don't see any reason why this would be any different.

Exactly what I was looking for

Bought this waterproofing spray to waterproof (2) old pairs of hiking boots that I was repairing and (1) pair of breathable fabric tennis shoes. Worked like a charm! With my tennis shoes they kept the water out but the fabric still breathable. Before I used the spray, my shoes would get soaked just from walking in dewy/wet grass. I sprayed this on prior to a trip to the snow and it held up great! Even walking through snow in fabric shoes my feet were dry and warm, but not stuffy. As you can imagine the effect was even better on both my Goretex and my leather hiking boots.I do feel that the spray darkened the color, (which I expected and actually kind of was hoping for), so I do recommend trying the spray out on a concealed area if that is a concern to ... MoreBought this waterproofing spray to waterproof (2) old pairs of hiking boots that I was repairing and (1) pair of breathable fabric tennis shoes. I would imagine I'd consider reapplying every year or so.

Great product
22 January 2023

Works as advertised. I normally apply once or twice a season to my gore-tex boots to keep the leather in good shape and waterproof. Make sure to clean well before (remove salt). I prefer the spray to the sponge, Just for ease of use - but sponge may be more efficient for nubuck/leather.

Helps Repel Water
7 March 2023

So far so good. Time will tell how long it lasts between recoats. One tip this stuff is very slippery. Spray this stuff outside if you can. If it get on a hardwwod floor you will bust yout tail. Not easy to clean off the floor. Took a while for it to wear off.

It really works!
17 February 2023

Super easy to apply. I let it dry overnight. The next morning's walk through wet grass left my socks and feet dry. The label warned that the color of the fabric will darken after applying it, which mine did slightly but I wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it. Great product!

Very easy to use and worked well
15 April 2023

Applied this to my Timberland Mt. Maddsens to improve their water resistance after 3 years of use. Tried the boots in extremely wet temperate rainforests in southern Chile and the spray noticeably improved how water beads and sheds off the boots. I clearly missed a small spot near the front of my right boot that wasn't beading water remotely as well as the rest of each surface.

Worth Understanding Nikwax
23 April 2023

Water is bigger than air. For newcomers to the Nikwax system, the starting point is to understand that H2O is blocked by the molecular barrier Nikwax installs, while air passes comfortably thru; BOTH WAYS. This means, you can clean, condition and wax all in the same wetting, with no dry time and your footwear and other gear will dry thru the wax layer. It also means that surprisingly durable and long-lasting Nikwax continues keeping moisture out while allowing your sweat to evaporate, AND to dry well overnight.

effective if not long lasting

This dwr works well for several trail running shoes I've tried. Certain weavs and fabrics work better than others and this also effects longevity aswell as water resistance performance. Unlike factory dwr this treatment will only last a few weeks top on an active show being subject to dirt and water and pollution. Still really worth it.Product says to use a special cleaning gel, I use tech wash with a toothbrush to work a generous lather and rince wth cld water, dry absorbed water with a towel, let air dry 5 minutes to get a consistent humidity/dampness. Shoes should still be thoroughly damp to touch but no standing liquid.Apply generous and evenly to fabric.
