I used the Nikwax rug wash on my minisrainsheet rugs. Then I waterproofed on regular cycle in cold water. I hung them out to dry & the following day placed the rug over a bucket & poured water over it. It 100% repelled the water. So pleased it works!

With 3 horses, having rugs cleaned and re-proofed can be quite expensive but doing it at home in the washing machine with this product gets the same results for a fraction of the cost - less than 4 per rug :-). I've used Nikwax Rug Proof for a few years now and always get consistently good results (so long as you follow their instructions). I have a RAMBO ligthweight turnout rug that is nearly 15 years old that I wash and re-proof each year and Nikwax ensures it remains waterproof keeping my heavy-hairy dry in our west-country wet winters, even after all this time!

I have always washed my blankets at the end of each season using Nikwax Rug Wash and loved the way they smell after washing and how it helps with the longevity of the blankets. I can usually do about 6-7 blankets done with one in bottle of the wash. I felt they could probably used some waterproofing (although they kept the horses dry this year) as they are about 4 years old now so I bought the Nikwax Synthetic Rug Proof solution. I was disappointed that the bottle only does about 2 blankets - 17.5 ozs per blanket is needed. I have to now buy 2 more bottles of it and put my blanket washing chore on hold until it arrives. I just wish that was clearer on the ordering page. I will see next year how the waterproofing holds up but the overall Nikwax brand for washing (and ... MoreI have always washed my blankets at the end of each season using Nikwax Rug Wash and loved the way they smell after washing and how it helps with the longevity of the blankets. Excellent Re Water Proofing Treatmebt

This product really works. I took two of my older winter blankets, washed and dried them, then ran them through the washing machine one at a time using 17 oz of Nikwax Rug Proof per load. When the blankets dried, I tossed a cupful of water onto them and the water simply beaded up and ran off. My blankets will last at least another year, saving me lots of money.

Extends the useful life of turnout blankets for horses by years.
12 November 2019

I've been using this product on my horses' turnout blankets for years. First I lightly pressure wash them. Then I was them in my washing machine (oversized front loader) with Nikwax rug wash. Then I use the Rug Proof. They stay waterproof and breathable through the winter. It's not cheap because you need 500 cc per rug but it's worth it.

Before I store our horses' sheets and blankets, I always wash them and use Nikwax Synthetic Rug Proof. This product makes the sheets and blankets waterproof, which is a blessing with our weather here in Florida. Nikwax Synthetic Rug Proof also keeps the sheets and blankets looking like new because it repels wetness and stains. I would highly recommend this product.

I have been using rug proof for years. It's great for horse blankets. I have also used it on snow pants, rain jackets, gloves, etc.It works well in washing machine and also soaked in a large container.

I bought Rug Proof to treat golf clothing as it's cheaper thanTX-Direct Wash In.I used more than as stated in the instructions,as I have had poor performance from Nikwax TX-Direct Wash In before if following the stated doses.Rug proof works perfectly when used to waterproof Gore-Tex clothing. Very impressed.

Seems to work
21 August 2021

First time using Nixwax Rug Proof. Did 10 Blankets, 7 of them seem to be waterproof again. The 3 that are not are all Showman rain sheet, which I have a lot to complain about already, so I am blaming the Showman on not waterproofing since the other 7 blankets ( all different brands, different ages) are 100% waterproof again. The rains sheet are about 70% water now so that is a big improvement.I did my blankets by soaking them in a brand new muck bucket. It was a lot of work and I am not doing it that way ever again. If you have one or two it would be fine. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I noticed that the bottle does not contain the amount it says it does. It says it has 34 oz. Can we get 100% Honesty on how much is in a bottle?

This works even in Oregon
17 April 2023

I waited for this because you really have to use both rug wash and rug proof. Wash with wash first, then with proof. Then dry on low. I live in Oregon where so far we have had drenching rains 3 out every5 days for a while now, and my boys are dry as a bone under those blankets. No more filthy blankets. Yay!
