The Nintendo Switch is by far one of the best gaming consoles Iāve ever owned! Its compact size is perfect for taking it anywhere, and I love how easily it switches between handheld mode and the TV for a bigger screen experience. Whether Iām at home or on the go, it delivers a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience. The two Joy-Con controllers are a brilliant featureāyou can use them together for a single-player mode or split them for an extra player, which makes multiplayer gaming so convenient. This is not remote play. That is the gimmick that made the switch famous and it's greatest selling point. So if that is something that intrigues you, you will love this. Travel a lot, this is perfect. There are some drawbacks if you are a serious gamer I'm my opinion. Whether docked on a tv or in handheld mode effects how the games perform. Also the screen is very small, only a little larger than a normal smart phone. Some games are hard to play in heldheld mode, text is small details are hard to see. Personally I like tv mode. Also the switch is very underpowered. It cannot hold up to ps4 or xbox one let alone the current Gen. Games on the switch take a heavy heavy hit in the graphics and performance department. They have lower resolution 1080p tv mode, 720p in handheld. The frame rates are lower and the graphical details are reduced when compared to say ps4 or ps5. So it falls somewhere in the better than ps3 or xbox 360 but not as good as ps4/5 or xbox one/series. But one thing that is clear is the switch is a great destination for indie games. Indie games are less graphically demanding and plentiful. That and the always charming Nintendo exclusives makes this a good console for casual gamers, young children and gamers on the go. There is also fragility. This is a fragile price of equipment. I doubt it will survive too many falls so supervision on young kids is needed. I would live to show a picture of the joycon controller but mi e broke with minimal use (I use a controller usually). Last the kick stand on the back is very flimsy. I would recommend you get a third party stand. They are way better. It's a nice compliment to a traditional home console like a ps5 or xbox, but current game games should probably be avoided if you want modern graphics looking their best.

Iām not your average ādemographicā for this product (30yo mother). However, as a millennial, I did grow up in to a gaming culture as consoles developed over time and retained a keen interest in gaming in general. I find it a great way to relax and unwind. I began with the Nintendo Switch lite during lockdown (UK) and eventually progressed to a Nintendo Switch OLED model as my love of the device grew. Honestly, these handsets are second to none. The graphic display and colours on the OLED model do pop and there are a variety of games available to play that are for any age range and gaming ability. I am a daily user (as is my son who has his own standard version) I wouldnāt be without it. I purchased my Nintendo switch the years ago. This had been a great homing companion. I was thrilled to play BOTW. As a child, Ocarina of Time was one of my favorite games to play on the N64. So, the launch was a much needed dose of nostalgia. Not only did I enjoy BOTW, Nintendo offered all of their classic games for download as well! As far as the graphics go, even on my brand new Samsung Qled, there is much to be desires when it comes to visual display. Game quality display, however detailed, doesn't look clear or relatively close to PC or even modern setups' capacity for in-game detail. (Everything is pretty blurry) As far as the longevity of the controllers- I had to purchase a second set due to a toggle breaking. Overall, it's not a bad console to have. ...Ā MoreI purchased my Nintendo switch the years ago. This had been a great homing companion. I was thrilled to play BOTW. Iāve had my Nintendo Switch for around 5 years. When I used the switch in hand held mode, I could use it for around an hour then my eyes had enough and my hands would cramp up. With my up coming trip to Hawaii I decided I wanted to play my switch on the 8 hour flight for the first time. I upgraded and bought the OLED switch and bought these beefy looking side grips called Hori Nintendo switch split pad pro. On the flight to Hawaii, I played my OLED switch with these new grips for 8 hours straight! The longest I ever played the switch in handheld mode. I should have listened to my body and made these changes long ago. On my return flight back to the mainland, I plan on playing another 8 hours going back. The OLED screen is bigger and is much better on these older eyes. Iāve had no eye strain or headaches compared to my old switch. But the grips are more ergonomic made for adults as they are much bigger and comfortable than the standard switch side grips.

To begin, itās important to understand the context of the product. While it is tremendously polished for its use-case (family, and causal gaming), it lacks a fundamental element of gaming culture that is, frankly, impossible to ignore: power. When the Nintendo Switch released in March of 2017, it followed one of Nintendoās largest commercial failures, the Wii U. As a successor to their largest success, the Wii, Nintendo implemented a second screen with the Wii U, one which, when implemented well, could be a satisfying and impressive gaming experience. However, due to a lack of support from first-party titles, and a dismal marketing campaign, the Wii U felt to many consumers as less its own console, and more an improvement on the existing Wii console (The name of the ...Ā MoreTo begin, itās important to understand the context of the product. However, due to a lack of support from first-party titles, and a dismal marketing campaign, the Wii U felt to many consumers as less its own console, and more an improvement on the existing Wii console (The name of the console didnāt help to mitigate these fears). While Nintendo could have ditched the second screen in favor of something else, they doubled down for their newest console, the Nintendo Switch. A bold move, but one that cemented their confidence in the technology they built, but failed to utilize with the Wii U. Luckily for Nintendo, the Switch was a massive success, surpassing all modern consoles around it as the highest selling modern console, cementing itself as the new king of casual gaming in the living room and on the go. The Nintendo Switch OLED follows the trend of many other modern console refreshes: take the existing hardware, improve on a few pain points, and re-release it with a higher price tag. So does Nintendo succeed in their quest for the ultimate portable-but-also-capable home console? Well, mostly. If the extent of your Switch gaming will be relegated to Nintendoās first-party titles, such as Mario, Animal Crossing, and Zelda, youāll feel right at home with this console. The Nintendo Switch is remarkably well-optimized for the casual gaming market, and is just as powerful as it needs to be to accommodate Nintendoās largest IPs. However, it is important to note that even Nintendoās newest releases, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, struggle to maintain even a smooth 30fps, which can be immersion-breaking to watch the stutter. The upgrades to the Nintendo Switch OLED are not numerous, but they are quite welcome: the new OLED screen is the best 720p display I have ever laid my eyes on, and I am consistently impressed with the battery life on this console. In conclusion, the Nintendo Switch OLED might be the best family console of all time, but it lacks the power of its competitors, which will cause issues for those hardcore gamers among us. While I adore my Nintendo Switch OLED and have a bit of trouble putting it down, I canāt help but wonder where Nintendo will go from here, and if this refresh will eventually lead to a more powerful console down the pipeline. Nintendo Switch OLED: Power: 2.5/5 Games Library: 5/5 Fun Factor: 5/5 Battery Life: 4.75/5 Controller(s) 3.5/5 Conclusion: 4.15/5
Now that Iāve got my hands on it, I regret not purchasing the oled model when it launched. Iām upgrading from the OG switch launch model, and the improvement in the screen and battery life is significant. On paper, the screen is only slightly larger, but in person, itās significant. With the oled, the colors really pop, not nearly as washed out looking as the original switch, and it gets much brighter too. Itās just gorgeous. The current hardware is also much more energy efficient. The battery life vs the launch model is roughly doubled, and I had just put a new battery in mine 6 months ago. The kickstand is actually useful, where the OG felt like it would break off just opening it. The current hardware is also much more energy efficient. The battery life vs the launch model is roughly doubled, and I had just put a new battery in mine 6 months ago. The kickstand is actually useful, where the OG felt like it would break off just opening it. If I have to have a complaint, itās that the air intake vents have been moved to the bottom edge and little rubber feet have been added, I guess to prevent it from sliding on a surface. I often like to tuck my pinky fingers under the bottom when playing handheld, and these changes make it less comfortable to hold this way. Itās a minor thing that Iāll get used to, and is hardly even worth mentioning when you consider the other upgrades. The transfer process was a real headache, you have to have both consoles side by side to transfer, and then download a special app to transfer your animal crossing island. There are also some games where saves will not transfer under any circumstances. Then your sd card has to be erased and all games redownloaded, 300gb with in my case. This is not the fault of the switch console, but it is Nintendo and their archaic online system and DRM. If they had their act together the process would be as simple as signing in on the new switch, moving over the sd card with all games, and just syncing the cloud saves.Update: After more use, I found 2 other areas where this oled model falls short. Iāve found the game card slot cover is impossible to open without some sort of thin tool to stick in there and pop it open. There is no way to grip it or get a fingernail under it. If youāre mainly digital, like me, then itās not a concern, but if you only buy physical versions of games this will likely irritate you. Also the wifi still sucks. The original switch was notorious for its poor wifi connectivity, and I can confirm it has not been improved in the oled model. If anything, it seems worse. The new one drops the signal and fails to connect in locations where the old one worked.
