I have been using Retinol (thankfully!) since my 20's it never bothered me yet when I was about 41 my skin changed and began to get irritated a lot easier and prone to break outs it took a lot of time, money and experimenting- with more often than not poor results which made my skin all the more sensitized. I wanted to make sure that I was going to be able to continue to use Retinol was burned by many including some of the faves out there like A-Passioni, etc. read so many reviews and found out about this - before I hadn't even heard of Obagi- now knowing a lot more about skincare it's a name I hear all the time but then I didn't purchase this because they of the brand rep but because of the thousands of amazing reviews from people who had similar concerns all said ... MoreI have been using Retinol (thankfully!) since my 20's it never bothered me yet when I was about 41 my skin changed and began to get irritated a lot easier and prone to break outs it took a lot of time, money and experimenting- with more often than not poor results which made my skin all the more sensitized. It's a great moisturizer and definitely controls fine lines and wrinkles and has all of the other benefits of Retinol and at 0.5% it's still mild enough to tolerate without issue is formulated so that it will release in a way that does not irritate as well. I love it. I'm now thinking that when the next restock happens I will step up to the 1.0 version to try it out because I think it will be easy to tolerate without issue now I can never get enough Retinol-LOL. I don't use it every night but probably 3-4 nights a week and use it in combination with as my serum- dream duo. That one also comes in a 1% version too

I've only used this product for 4 wks so I haven't seen the full benefits yet. It appears to be doing what it claims. However, I wish I'd read up on retinol in more detail before I started using it because I would have done things differently. It is suggested that if you're new to using retinol, to start by using it every third night and work up to every other night. I used it 3 nights in a row when I started. But by the 4th day my face was blotchy, dry peeling like sunburn. And don't think that this means there is fresh-looking skin underneath. There was just more dry skin. Also, it must be used on completely dry skin....there's some kind of reaction that takes place when there's water on the skin (probably the sunburn-like reaction above). I also read that new users can "buffer" the retinol by mixing it with moisturizer. The dryness was almost unbearable to me. During weeks 2 3, I waited awhile then put on some face cream. My skin was still terribly dry but it felt better. Then there was the constant flakiness. At first it seemed that the flakes didn't want to come off at all. Don't make the same mistake I did by rubbing too hard with a washcloth...looked like I had an abrasion. I just finished my 4th week and the flakes seem to come off much easier and it no longer looks flaky, just kind of dry. Surprisingly, the area under my eyes looked the worst at first but haven't been bad for a couple of weeks. The most troublesome spot has been on my cheeks right next to my mouth and chin. Based on everything I read, it might take a few months for the skin to adapt to the retinol before revealing fresh, shiny skin. So I have a ways to go. This is also the time when most folks give up due to the dryness/flakiness but it's best to stick it out and continue using the product. I'll try to remember to add an update in another month. Hopefully I'll continue to see improvement.

I love this retinol; it smells nice. It does not irritate the skin, does not cause redness. I would recommend it for beginners to adapt their skin into retinol. It is also a great option on your sensitive skin days. Don't forget to apply moisturizer afterward. The packing is simple but reliable.

Great Retinol Product!
15 June 2024

I decided to try a different retinol product after using the same one for years and have been happy with my choice. It has a light texture and no odor. I like the packaging. I recently broke a product that was in glass container so I like the airless pump, soft container style of this packaging. I have sensitive skin and have not experienced any redness or dryness.

Great for those who have easily irritated skin!

This is my go-to Retinol cream & I use it 2-3 nights a week along with the SkinMedica Retinol serum. I've been very happy with results, benefits & ease of use. It's lightweight & quickly absorbs - my skin is combination leaning towards oilier & it's perfect for my type. Unlike other high quality products of this type it also offers hydration as well never leaving my skin feeling dry at all- it moisturizes my skin & it leaves it feeling soft & not 'stiff' or stripped in any way. I consider this to be a high end skincare product & compared with peer products in this tier I think that the price is very fair & lower than most everything else I've tried with similar experience. Highly recommend, have been using this as my main Retinol cream for about 2.5-3 years now & started to incorporate Retinol into my routine in my 20's (definitely recommend beginning use to anyone in that age range!)

I've only used this product once, so I know this review isn't even remotely helpful in terms of talking about the effects of it; however, I want to write this for anyone who is like me...if you have sensitive skin, purchasing actives can be a serious gamble. A lot of active ingredients, such as vitamin C, retinol, and exfoliating acids can be way too strong and can cause irritation. I bought this on a whim because one of my favorite YouTubers recommended it, but I was very hesitant because this woman admits her skin isn't sensitive, so even though she said she believes this product is gentle enough for sensitive skin, the fact is she doesn't *really* know. I've been trying to find a good retinol for months, as I'm starting to see some signs of aging (age 31), but most of the ones I've tried either irritate my skin or are a consistency I don't like. This one has a nice, lotion-like consistency, so it's easy to spread but also sinks in quickly. It doesn't make my skin itchy or red, and when I woke up this morning, I didn't have any irritation or breakouts. If you're on the search for a good retinol for sensitive skin that's also an effective formulation, give this a try!

Nice consistency
11 August 2023

I have been using retinol for maybe 6 months. I started with 0.25 for the first 3 months then slowly graded up to 0.5. I had only used Alastin which I actually really like but I travel a ton and wanted something in a more travel friendly tube. I am really happy with the Obagi. The consistency is creamy and it feels nice on my skin. I have oily skin but have not experienced any additional oiliness. I’m still a relatively new retinol user, but this, so far, is a nice product that seems to be working!

Roughened my skin
16 April 2024

I used this product consistently on my hands as a nighttime anti-aging treatment before layering a moisturizer on top, and my hands started looking rougher and more wrinkled. This is the opposite of the intended benefit of retinol. I threw this in the trash where it belongs. I lament the waste and pollution this has caused.I received this as a free full-size gift.

Top notch results
22 May 2024

Best most effective product I’ve tried in years .. I am so happy I received this product as a sample from Lovely Skin. It has cleared my occasional cystic acne , firmed and smoothed my aging skin all without irritation I had read somewhere that Retin A is really the only product scientifically proven with numerous studies to help with aging skin I have always had terrible reaction to retinoid products in the past so was hesitant but thought it’s a low concentration . My chin acne has totally cleared up , my skin feels smooth and firmer . I don’t want to run out so I just purchased a tube so I don’t run out . Also love the pump as it seems safe to travel with ( spill wise ) and easy to control to get the right amount Love Love Love!

Worthy Product for Sensitive Skin
26 March 2024

I’ve used this product for several weeks with good results. It is not irritating, used properly, it does not dry out my skin. I began using it slowing 1x week, gradually increased use and now can apply 3x a week. This is the only Obagi product I use. My regimen consists of alternating various other brands face wash, daily moisturizer, daily eye cream, a vitamin c serum, and sunscreen.
