Decided to try OC’s after years of hearing the hype. I wanted to like them, but I was disappointed after much deliberation…to “see” if I could make them work. Unfortunately, returned them after more research on top hiking shoes. These boots are not even in the discussion. I’m not a hater of the product, the hype did not align with the comfort. I found another product that is ultra light, better traction, awesome comfort, and completely weather proof. Sorry to the loyal followers of this product. It was not a good fit for me. Either way…you may want to look at other products if you want a more “serious” & high performing hiking shoe.

Fitment: They fit well and the cushion in the sole is very comfy. After even only a small bit of wear they felt like I'd broken them in for weeks already. Easy to take on and off, they pair well with wool socks. The sidewalls at your ankles are a less sturdy material, still offering a bit of sturdyness but not hard to cause discomfort. It was a good balance of support and comfort. While it's waterproof now, above the toes is a more fabric free-breathing portion of the shoe. While offering comfort and a decent flex point it will probably need to be waterproofed in the future with normal wear and tear.Improvements: Not much really. The side of the boot has these little square cutouts that aren't hollow. If you step in mud and the mud gets in these squares they'll be quite a pain to empty out once it dries. The rear empty square is about an inch and a quarter deep. The only other one being pricepoint, they are a pricier shoe. Regardless, these are minor things and the shoe is holding its own again some of the best in my inventory.I definitely recommend these. Versatile outdoor footwear! These boots are good for cold weather, wet weather, long treks, or short hikes. They are lightweight, like sneakers, and they keep your feet warm and dry in cold, wet weather. I live in the Pacific Northwest and these are great hiking shoes for the wet, variable weather we expect out here. They provide good support.I give these boots got 4 not 5 stars because the shoelace notches for lacing and tightening the upper portion of the boot are too small for the laces. At the end of hiking, I enjoy laces that fall smoothly off out of the upper notches on the boot. I needed to pull the laces out of these. Otherwise, no complaints.

Cloudrock 2 turned out to be a huge disappointment for me. After owning and enjoying Cloudrock 1, I had high expectations, but the new version didn't live up to the previous standard. After wearing these shoes, I experienced swelling and bruising in my ankles. Furthermore, the boots developed a terrible smell after just one day of hiking, which was quite off-putting. Additionally, the front of the shoe began to peel off after being exposed to water. Overall, I wouldn't recommend these shoes for serious hikers based on my experience.

This Mid boot is both sturdy and comfortable yet flexible and accommodating under a wide range of trail conditions. This boot has a rugged insole and outsole with deep lugs that offer excellent traction. These boots worked well on steep hiking ascents and felt light and agile walking at various speeds. The locking upper eyelets and tongue kept my lacing secure and my heels locked in place on steep descents. This boot worked well for me in hot desert conditions with excellent grip on Class 2 sandstone scrambles (my feet were warm but not over-heated) and equally well in the unforgiving Alpine environment of Colorado's San Juan Mountains. This is my first purchase of On Cloud footwear. Several friends recommended I try their product. Overall, the boot is super comfortable and supportive! They definitely have all-day wear comfort. However, the quality of this product is severely lacking. I have only been wearing these boots 3 days a week for the past 2.5 months (regular everyday use, walking on flat surfaces - no running or hiking) and they are already starting to fall apart/break. The fabric and rubber is separating, creating gaps/holes in the sides. Very disappointing for as much as these cost! Several of my coworkers, who also have these same boots, have reported the same exact issue with their boots.
I took my new ON Cloudrock hiking boots for a spin at our local National Monument and found the boots to be very sturdy on uneven terrain. I felt confident that I would not sprain any ankles as most of my steps landed in an overpronation position when I stepped on the edges of the deeply worn trails. They were also very light even after trudging more than a mile on grassy and muddy trails. I would, however, encourage the use of hiking crew socks and not anklets like I was wearing. The sturdy collars rubbed against my bare lower shins and I ended up with small abrasion, which did sting at the last 1/2 mile of my hike. I still really liked these boots and would still highly recommend them to avid hikers.
This shoe is very capable but for only so long. Not a good design for rough rocky, root filled trails. The sole of the shoes will eventually split. The channel that runs from heal to toe will pull away from their center essentially splitting away from center. It happened to my shoe on a rough rocky, rooted, LONG hike to a summit of 8,000' with a gain of 5,350' the split occurred on the way up (at approximately 7000'). The hike up to the summit and down was terribly uncomfortable.
