Onkyo?s best receiver in the NR lineup. If you can?t afford the TX-RZ50 then the TX-NR7100 is the receiver to get. It has almost all the same features but at a slight power disadvantage to the RZ. Sound quality is fantastic. The 7100 drives my Klipsch Reference Premier speakers with ease. No clipping, no distortion. The DIRAC room correcting algorithm gets the very best out of whatever speakers you are using. Just be patient as the process takes time. Everything you need is included with the receiver. Since there?s really not any 8K programs available I can?t speak to that but every 4K signal I?ve run through it is flawless. There?s no discernible lag when gaming at 4K 120 HDR. And I say that after believing I was ?settling? on this one because the RZ was not in stock. I don?t believe I have any need to upgrade now that I?ve had the 7100 for a couple weeks.

This receiver is good for video, but doesn't deserve the hype it's received. I bought this on my 4k 120Hz Home Theater update and am pretty disappointed. My setup is now: LG C2 77, NR7100 in 5.1.2 configuration, Paradigm front speakers, Yamaha center and surround speakers (until I find some I like more), and Onkyo front Atmos speakers (all with 12 guage wire), PS5, XSX, Switch OLED, VR & Home Theater PC with RTX 2070 (to be updated to 30/40 series later this year). Cables are all certified HDMI 2.1 cables from Cable Matters and Infinite Cables - all support full features and tested at 48Gbps bandwidth. The good: Excellent video passthrough and build quality, clean design, great GUI, lots of inputs and dual outputs. I also appreciate the front input as I like to hook up other things at random and this way I don't need to get behind the receiver for a simple/short-term add-on.The bad: (1) I had trouble with getting all the features of my Xbox Series X and PS5 out of the box. By default, all inputs and outputs are set to "4k enhanced" and this limits available features. In order to use VRR/ALM/4k@120Hz you need to adjust the inputs you're using AND the output to the TV to "8k enhanced." (2) You can dim the front display, but you can't turn it off completely or have it turn off after a set timeout period. This kind of ruins the immersion when watching dark movies in a dark room. (3) I would have appreciated a cleaner front design and a cover for front I/O). (4) THE FAN is ALWAYS going. It's loud. It's scratchy. It's ANNOYING and I can hear it whenever the receiver is off - my WFH setup is 15ft away from my HT setup and I can hear it all the time while working at my desk. They used a crappy PC-style fan. IF I keep this, I will swap the fan with a silent Noctua fan instead. The ugly: Here's my one major gripe and it's a doozy. Sound is hollow and low. I'm coming from a MUCH lower powered receiver, the Marantz NR-696, and somehow this is not only QUIETER (lower at the same levels and much lower maximum volume), but the sound is lacking/hollow. I'll be re-evaluating after making some config changes, but, as much as this receiver cost, I'm really disappointed and will likely be returning it.Final Thoughts: There should have been more though put into the pre-configured settings of this receiver. Having to modify the input and output bandwidth was a big headache and caused me a lot of frustration.

i bought this about 2 weeks a go having studied several options. The Onkyo was the only one that included IMAX with my other requirements. This was to replace my older Yamaha amp which had served well but disappointingly failed after only 5 years. So, I bit the bullet and opted for a new amp with the latest options. I found it very easy to set up with my existing Dali 5:1:2 speakers. Then fired it up to watch the latest Mandalorian episode. I have to say I was not disappointed. Mando is broadcast in Dolby Atmos sound so I knew it would be a good test. I was thrilled with the result. It brought much more from my speakers than the Yamaha had ever done. Clear, crisp sound and the Atmos effects were superb. I could really feel the 3d sounds. I have since linked it to a ... Morei bought this about 2 weeks a go having studied several options. I would definitely recommend this Amp

I traditionally prefer Denon for their warmth but I have to say that I'm impressed with the audio on this unit. It sounds much warmer than my old Onkyo NR-801. I also love that I can run this unit at 6 ohms for 220 watts through my Klipsch 5.1 reference series. It has all of the modern bells and whistles, and is not lacking in features. It sounds rich and full, but has a hard time handling the highs that the horn tweeters are capable of at extreme volume. That being said, I don't play my stereo at deafening levels any more, and they do sound incredible with movies. I would have given this amp a 5, but there are a couple of drawbacks. The unit feels a bit cheap with the plastic case and knobs. I worry about how they will hold up over time, but the 2 year warranty ... MoreI traditionally prefer Denon for their warmth but I have to say that I'm impressed with the audio on this unit. The remote is also lacking in a lot of features you expect for an amp with all of these features. All in all it was a good purchase at a great price and I am happy with my new Onkyo NR7100.
Great reciever, I'm very happy after 2 months of use. I had a 12 year old Denon before this one, and the 7100 is amazing. I got it for the audio upgrade (I'm still running a standard HD TV right now). I use this for stereo and movie duty, about 50/50. The app is great to do quick adjustments for the sub and center channel levels. Atmos is real nice, and the DTS neuralX does a good job when there is no Atmos. Dirac can be a bit fiddly, but it allows some real in depth tuning with a calibrated mic and a laptop. One tip is to level match the channels after calibration. Some of them were a few dB quiet.
Receiver stopped passing through video at around 8 months.Customer support was courteous, but their solution after much time on the phone (both on hold and with support) is for me to call one of their authorized service centers. They gave me the number of the closest one - two states away. So I'll have to ship the heavy item at my cost. And apparently, I'll have to redescribe the problems I'm having with the service company as well - you would think Onkyo and the Service provider would talk to each other without me having to be the middle man.I have owned many Onkyo's, but looks like I'm in the market for a new brand. 1 star for breaking within a year and having to put more of my own money into it (shipping) to get it fixed. If Samsung can send a tech to my house to work on a 42 inch tv, then Onkyo can send someone here for this beast that cost 3 times as much - or at least provide the shipping.I'd suggest making sure you have an authorized service center close to you prior to buying.
I purchased the pioneer vsx-935 I tried to live with it, but it was just falling short in so many ways especially for the price it really lacked features and sound quality, so I took advantage of the longer Christmas returns and exchanged it for this. I so glad I did, 9 channels are awesome i set it up for 5.1.4 . I'm driving polk audio xt20's xt15's xt30 xt90's and a 12" svs sub.The overall sound quality is deeper and more room filling. The sound transfer between channels is awesome. The Dirac live is a must have and very easy to setup. The only con is that I'm not a big fan of the greenish display. My experience with the NR 7100 is not good. The unit has major HDMI switching issues that need to be addressed quickly. When changing from DVD back to cable TV, the video plays but the sound disappears. And I don't get the sound back unless I rurn the TV off and on - and even then there's an ubcomfortable delat. The fact is whenever I turn the NR7100 on I have no idea whether it will work or not.The bluetooth digital display remains fixed on the first song I play even when I change songs. The music changes, but the display stays fixed on the first song.Watching TV apps, like Netflix or Amazon is iffy. Video works, but sound gets lost or plays thru the TV speakers which can't find an external audio system AKA, the NR7100. HUH?Oh boy. And as for the calibration system, the famed Dirac Live, you can't download from Dirac, but must use the scaled down Onkyo licensed versions. And good luck trying to figure out the microphone placement for full, nine position calibration. Who drew that confusing diagram?I downloaded the full 191 page manual, which lacks commonsene explanations for setting up basic functions. I'm not an engineer and I doubt most buyers are either. One hundred and ninety-one pages? It's new and I still have a few days to decide if I want to keep this unit. I really do want to keep it, but for $1,100,00 I don't know if "hoping" for the best makes sense, when Marantz is right around the cirner.Fair warning.Problems, problems, problems. My assessment? This receiver is not quite ready for prime time. When it finds its way, the sound is good. The set up screens are pretty easy to navigate and the customer service is quite good. But in truth, having called rwice, even the reps seemed a little baffled that things weren't working as they shoukd.Look AV receivers should be intuitive and ready to identify and switch HDMI inputs, which the NR7100 isn't ready to do.
I recently bought this Onkyo receiver And I got to tell you all this is the greatest receivers I’ve ever owned!!! My biggest recommendation is to mate this receiver with some Klipsch Dolby Atmos speakers and you’re really get some great sound!!! In fact you can choose in the settings menu that your brand of speakers is Klipsch. And if you get Jurassic World Dominion on 4K Blu-ray, that movie has DTS X Instead of Dolby Atmos with a Klipsch Subwoofer, oh my God now you will have a mini theater in your house!!! I have two Klipsch 12” powered subwoofers with this receiver.I really recommend this receiver to anybody who is a fan of theater surround sound. The only drawback that I could say is if you are coming off of a Onkyo TX-NR777 this receiver is not as loud as that ... MoreI recently bought this Onkyo receiver And I got to tell you all this is the greatest receivers I’ve ever owned!!! The only drawback that I could say is if you are coming off of a Onkyo TX-NR777 this receiver is not as loud as that one. Where the 777 is on volume at 30 on the 7100 you’ll need to put it to 40. But other than that this is a really great receiver!!!
