I have the non-perforated peel that came with the kit with my oven and really wish Ooni would have provided this one instead!So now I have 3 different kinds of peels- since I thought I needed the wood one to launch. You only need this one!! I literally don’t use the other two and it a waste of money and space. The perforated one is super helpful for a beginner and reduces how much semolina gets in the oven and just burns. Don’t make my mistake or let Ooni take more money from you than necessary!

Purchased the 12” Perforated Peel from Ooni for Christmas 2021. It’s a well made product but the design does not work. I have tried to use the Peel a number of times without success. The pizza refuses to launch no matter what I do. With high hydration doughs (think classic Margarita pizza) the perforations actually prevents the pie from launching.Luckily I have a $10 solid wooden Peel that works great, no issues. The pies launch easily. Also, adding more flour on the Peel is counter productive as flour gets everywhere falling thru the perforations onto the counter/floor. Save lots of money and forego this product.

You want it to easily shoot off and on to your pizza stone.So Ooni make a similar one without holes, and I would recommend that alternative. In my own case I have charity shopped this one and bought a really cheep one with no holes that works much better.

This is a very good, nice looking pizza peel to accompany the OONI oven. It's well-constructed, looks great and does the job and the slotted metal is certainly functional especially when placing a crust on and assembling the pizza to prevent sticking. I have one of the original OONI ovens which came with a flat metal peel that the dough constantly stuck to and was really difficult to use as a peel in removing/rotating a pizza in the oven. I'm not a huge fan of the angle on the handle as it makes inserting/removing the pizza a bit awkward though I'm sure the angle is there to help in some way, but how I'm not really sure. Still, I'd buy this pizza peel again and it's become an integral part of a successful pizza party!
This is my first metal peel. So far it works well. It seems almost too thin at first glance, but I've used it a couple times now and it easily handled the weight of my pizzas. I've been using it for NY style pizzas that go all the way to the edge of the peel (I got the 14 inch version). Just a little corn meal and they seem to launch pretty well in my Halo Versa 16 oven. I used to have to use probably 10x as much corn meal on my wooden peel and the corn meal would burn in my pizza oven. I still pull the pizza out with my wooden peel because I cut it on the peel a lot and don't want to scratch this one, but I imagine it would work well for that, too.
The peel is great for turning and removing pizzas from the oven, but awful at launching.With a thin crust, I find the dough always sagging into the perforations and making it very difficult to launch. I have to either over-flour the base of the dough (which burns and affects taste), make a thicker crust (not my preference), or top my pizza at warp speed (not suitable for casual pizza party dinners).I thought my problems were due to my inexperience, but I bought a wood peel last week for topping and launching pizzas and the first 4 have worked perfectly - requires less flour, launches more smoothly, allows ample time for topping.The perforated peel is superior to the wood peel for turning and removing from the oven, but honestly any low-profile metal peel can do that.
I purchased this peel with my new oven thinking it would be a good compromise for launching, turning, and retrieving. It works well for retrieving but poor for launching and turning. I borrowed my neighbors flat peel that he got for half the price on 'A-Z' and it worked better. No issues with sticking on launch and about the same performance on turning/retrieving. Save your cash and get a discount peel it works fine.
This peel actually helps a lot with excess flour in your oven. I had a non perforated peel before this one, and burnt flour would accumulate during every pizza making session. After the first few pizzas, all the rest would be bitter from the burnt flour build up.This peel has significantly improved that issue.My only negative comment on the ooni peels (perforated and non-perforated)...The handles are made of two sandwiched pieces with a seem down the middle. That seem accumulates flour and is basically impossible to clean out. Luckily it doesn't come in contact with food, but still looks kinda gross.
This perforated pizza peel allows an easy and smooth launch of pizzas into the oven. I use a little sprinting of corn meal on the peel before proceeding. Works like a charm. I've used other peels, both wood and metal, but this perforated peel outperforms all others because the surface area making contact with the pizza is reduced, allowing the pizza to slide easily off the peel.
We are so pleased with our Ooni Koda 12 Gas Powered Pizza Oven and 12" Perforated Pizza Peel. We were amazed at how fast and evenly the oven cooked the centers and crusts of our pizzas without burning the toppings, even in single digit weather. I was skeptical at first, but after only two pizzas (still delicious) my wife had it dialed and we were enjoying perfectly cooked pizzas at a fraction of the cost of restaurant pizzas. We made pizzas for our friends on the second day and they were equally impressed. The unit is easy to set up and take down making the experience more enjoyable. The unit is also compact making it easy to store.
