I purchased the Ooni peel at the same time as the Koda 16. The peel is sturdy, well-made, and has a handle that's long enough to reach in and launch or retrieve the pizza without needing a mitt. I also use the peel to turn the pizza as it cooks. It's obviously large and may present a storage challenge for some, but we've found a great spot for it (and an extra large cutting board) atop our refrigerator. There are many cheaper peels available, some with folding handles, but I really like the quality of this one.

I was gifted an Ooni Karu for Christmas and it is my new favorite thing to cook in! The heat this puts off is incredible, make sure you have an infared thermometer or you'll be guessing temps. It is also great for cooking shrimp, any kind of vegetables or protein. I made wedge cabbage steak for new years and they were so good! Highly recommend!

I think I would prefer a vented peel - I've one on order - but as long as your put cornmeal or semolina flour on the peel it helps the pizza slide off - straight flour does not cut it and burns in the pizza oven.The quality, durability, and size (length and width) are perfect for the Oooni. It's super lightweight, but all one piece, so it can be tricky to store. I have space in the basement as this is too big for the kitchen (unless you have an enormous kitchen or outdoor kitchen with storage).

This peel functions really well with the 16" ovens but for launching a pizza, but not for turning (for which I'm sure it was not intended - I just neglected to initially order a turning peel). I'm not certain, but perforation might be an improvement for launching by allowing slightly less surface area for the dough to stick too but sufficient flour-dusting and not allowing the prepared pizza to sit on the peel long works best. For turning, I've made due with this peel and a long commercial griddle spatula but it is less than ideal and doesn't provide much maneuver room. After a dozen or so pizzas with this method, I am excited that a proper turning peel is on the way.

It looks great, but functionality is disappointing.First, it’s so big you have to use it without any door attached, so you have to plan ahead to cook with no door, for that whole session - you can’t take the door off the hot oven just for one 16 inch pizza.Second - and this is the bigger problem - without a door on, the Ooni Pro didn’t get above 290 degrees C. This was using GAS and a full tank, at that. I guess that loads of heat escapes from the wide open front when there is no door on. I pre-heated for well over an hour (perhaps as much as 90 minutes) and the heat didn’t go any higher. Pizzas were rubbish as a result!Even when you do accept the lower heat ... I recently purchased the Ooni 12" Pizza Peel, primarily to supplement my existing (non-Ooni) peel. First, having two peels is table stakes (I already invested in a "real pizza oven" rather than my former setup with metal and ceramic pizza stones in my regular oven). But I found everything about the Ooni 12" Pizza Peel a"peel"ing: it's aesthetics make it almost a shame to keep in the cabinet with my other peels. The sleek design makes it a breeze to place my pre-cooked dough-pieces into real master"pizzas"! I highly recommend it for any and all Ooni users as well as non-pizza oven users that want to get a taste of what it's like to aspire to be a real pizzaiolo!
16" non-perforated peel was a waste - dough sticks to peel on larger pies, The 16" size is unwieldly and unnecessary considering I it doesn't launch large pies well. Tried to keep toppings light and used semolina and it still sticks to peel for a very messy launch into the oven.-The semolia burns/flambe's and leaves burnt crumbs on the stone. To mitigate stickng to the peel, I make smaller pies which is more work and I still need the semolina.
I'm not sure how you would manage the pizzas in the oven if you don't have a throw. It's invaluable for handling pizza and breaking any stickiness of overflowed ingredients to the stone. There is so little time available before the pizza really burns that having a device the covers the entire width of the pizza with one push is valuable. Do be careful though - it gets hot during use.
Everyone needs a pizza peel. I think one should come with the oven purchase as a kit. We struggled at first with getting the pizza into the oven. The toppings would come off and the dough would stick on the large spatula we were using. It just wasn’t working. We decided to purchase a peel. This tool is amazing. Now when we are baking our pizza is fun and easy. The results are amazing. Yum
I bought this on a whim and boy am I glad I did. This thing has saved my pizzas. If I didn't have this, turning the pizza to get it to turn even would be difficult. It is easy to use, great quality, and easy to clean. I love this thing and highly recommend that everyone who buys an Ooni also buys one of these pizza peels. You will be much happier with your pizza results if you do.
