This is a comfortable bag to carry, then the straps can be put away. Note there are no frills here- like extra pockets and organization features, just one small pocket on the top and the laptop sleeve. I picked this as the max "carry on size" and couldn't help but notice that most folks on the plane had something larger. Fit easily in the overhead of a large plane. More expensive packs have all kinds of extra pockets but this works for me as I have a "personal item" carry on that takes care of the little things.

I bought this bag for my spring break trip, I was able to pack enough clothes to last me 2 weeks with room to spare. I love that it has straps inside of the bag to compress the clothes and hold them in place. I probably had close to 40lbs in the bag and it didn’t feel heavy at all. Adjustable shoulder straps and waist strap distribute the weight so it feels comfortable to wear for hours at a time. I would buy this again.

I love almost everything about this bag. The one thing I would change is the laptop sleeve/holder. It has toggles on one side so you can lift it up from the inside. I’m not sure why you would want or need to do that since you can access the sleeve from the outside. But, in keeping with the current design, I would prefer if it was completely removable so if you are not travelling with a laptop you have that but if extra space that this padded cover takes up. It’s not a lot but if you pack like me and every square inch counts, this piece could come out.

Bought this pack for an upcoming trip to Europe and am happy so far. I did a lot of research and so far the pack is meeting my expectations. Did a dry run, packing up a week's worth of close and personal items. Everything fit great and after adjusting to my size wore it around the house for a bit. Excited for my trip and to put this pack to the test.
I received this and compared it to the one I have used for years. My old one does not have a waist strap but is very well designed. When I go on dive trips, I put quite a bit of weight in the pack and as the shoulder straps carry all of the load, they are showing weakness along with my shoulders. This pack has a great waist strap, comfortable shoulder straps, and seems to be quite well designed. Looking forward to my first trip with it the end of February.
We purchased two of these - one for my (the men's version) and the 40L women's Fairview. And then we hopped on a plane to Costa Rica, without checked luggage. For three weeks. We used it primarily as a means of taking our stuff from point (a) to point (b), but also used it to haul groceries (on a borrowed bicycle), where "groceries" means "30 pounds of organic produce." It passed the tests far better than I would ever have imagined. In my younger days, I did some backpack travelling/camping. I think it would be possible for a sufficiently minimalist camper to use this for a multi-day trip (albeit with some careful planning).I saw one comment about storing a computer. All I can say is that I was able to bring along a Chromebook without issues. The interior layout ... MoreWe purchased two of these - one for my (the men's version) and the 40L women's Fairview. All I can say is that I was able to bring along a Chromebook without issues. The interior layout is quite sensible: options allow for compartmenting materials (clean stuff here, dirty stuff there; mission-critical papers here; must-have items there. What I loved about the pack is that even though it's niche is/are folks like us who want to skip the mess of checked luggage, it's got some solid ergonomics, good hip/waist design and a great overall feel. Even with the aforementioned groceries on a basic one-speed (undersized) grannybike, I felt like the pack did a great job of balancing weight. At the end of our trip, we converted the other bag (a Fairview) into checked luggage to haul coffee back to Canada, and it easily performed this function - as it was designed.I'm not a five-star review guy, but I gave this five stars. Not a fault to be found.
Ended up returning it because I discovered after ordering that it is too big to be a "personal item" on our flight. Loved the roomy interior and well placed smaller pockets. Wishes: lighter colour interior fabric to see inside more easily (gopher green bag has dark blue inside), vent space on back foam. The main zipper is a little awkward to use, but the trade off is the nice big open top. And the straps were uncomfortable at the front, although maybe they'd relax with wear. A beautiful bag, just not for me.
I got this bag so I can have a daily work bag to bring my laptop and work gear, but I also wanted something that I could take on the trail with me. This fits the bill perfect. I wouldn't use this for hardcore work traveling as it is not that big, but it is perfect for bringing you laptop, water bottle, notepad, and a few other items back and forth to work. It also looks very professional. It will also be the right size for a day hike. It has good support and adjustability like all Osprey bags. It also has the slots to put a hydration pack in the backpack and have the hose come out. It attaches to bigger Osprey packs if you are doing a backpack in Europe type of trip, which is a nice little bonus. Great pack for the price, recommended.
Initially I was concerned about how I would fit 2 and a half weeks worth of clothes and kit in a hand luggage size bag but this Osprey pack was perfect, loads of room and the design and comfort were exceptional while I was away. Build quality is fantastic, I really was rwther impressed. This pack will come in very useful for further trips by air and as a regular pack for day trips etc, it really is the perfect size.
Ive had this bag for nearly 3 years and this is a tested and well used review. So I bought the Osprey 40 Farpoint in L im 6'2 male, and fits wonderfully. I've tried numerous bags for longer 3+ week trips and they either were top loading - which made for exhausting times to find something, or the pocket distribution or straps just were oddly placed. I got this pack in the fall of 2018 just before a 3 week trip to Thailand. And it handled beautifully. Took a small daypack, but this Osprey (with compartmentalizing) was brilliant, booked 4 impromptu domestic Thai flights and only once did I have to check in the bag even with compression straps (RyanAir, but most blogs will say the same for this airline). Otherwise I was carrying this bag through buses, trains, airports, even quite the viewpoint with this bag on. Shoulder and hip belts are comfortable, so long as you know how to adjust to your body. I was uneasy when I had to check in the bag, but zipping up the shoulder straps and seeing my bag at my destination looking pretty new, I could tell this is gonna be the bag to beat. I have since done several work trips, and I prefer this bag over a suitcase, I'm just that kind of traveler, a backpack over a suitcase any day. Fits my 14" laptop, accessories, documents and paperwork comfortably, and lockable zippers are brownie points. The ONLY quirk I see is the mesh water bottle pockets..?? I dont know who decided they should go there, put in a water bottle and it got stolen, because it sits on the back, so if someone doesn't pick it from your bag, you're likely to lose it when bending over or something, very odd position, I just put a pack towel and some snacks in there. Overall? Well done Osprey.Btw I bought the bag direct from Osprey, for warranty purposes, but MEC is cheaper and offers similar warranty. Sooo in like 15 years when this bag finally starts to rip, I'll buy from MEC. :)
