Upgraded from the Osprey Hikelite 26L . I normally only do day hikes, often times in finicky elements. I was excited about the external water reservoir, a feature not on my old bag. The bag is very comfortable and can hold quite a bit, however I was quickly let down when I realized it did not come with a rain cover & storage pocket for the cover. My biggest complaint is that the trekking pole loops on the bottom are very small compared to the Hikelite 26L & do not hold my poles very well. If I have the protective tips on my poles, the poles do not fit through the loop at all. Overall, the bag is alright, but there is room for improvement.

The Deuter Sportlite Daypack is a nice concept, however, I find the design pretty poor.25 liters is a good size for a daypack: Extra gear (if needed) can be fit in this backpack with plenty room to spare. The hip belt pockets are another positive aspect of this pack, enabling small items (snacks, lipbalm, sunscreen, etc. ) to be easily accessible. The division into 3 compartments (excluding the separate water reservoir back panel) is also a nice concept: You can sort your items however you like, there is a smaller top pocket and two bigger compartments, the center bigger compartment has two additional pockets for extra organization. The side mesh pockets are also fairly generous: You can fit quite big water bottles securely in there (I used a 1-liter Smartwater ... The water reservoir concept. There is a special compartment designed just for your water reservoir. As opposed to traditional packs, where the water reservoir is located in the main body of the pack, the Osprey Sportlite 25 has a compartment right behind the back panel, which is supposed to fit your water bladder. This was probably designed this way so the water bladder does not interfere/ take space away from the main body of the pack, yet a new problem occurs with this design: A full water bladder pushes against your back panel. When wearing this pack with my water bladder filled, it was immensely pressing against my (lower) back, causing the air circulation/ back ventilation to worsen drastically. I was sweating more than usual, which was uncomfortable on longer or more challenging adventures.2.) The back ventilation (This is partly a consequence of Nr. 1).There is no significant ventilation concept on this pack, which is probably a consequence of this pack reducing weight as much as possible (as this is supposed to be a lightweight daypack). There is merely a mesh panel at the back, which would be fine, but paired with the water reservoir concept it provides insufficient ventilation. If you sweat more than the average person or are doing more strenuous activities and want to have the possibility of using a water reservoir (with a clever design), I would not recommend this pack to you.

Most of the time I find Osprey has their packs perfectly dialed, everything is so handy and intuitively designed, so I was a touch disappointed with this one. It's a great pack, but I was hoping for a few more internal pockets than it has (it's just the main compartment and a smaller pocket on the top flap). Would be handy to have a few more internal organization pockets/areas to segregate things instead of dumping them into a big old black hole of backpack! Other than that, super comfortable, love the airscape on the back. Will work well for a daypack, tons of room for stuff and layers and... But if you prefer a bit more separation/sorting for things then maybe consider another pack or get another small bag to store inside it.

I impulse-bought this bag because I liked the color, and ended up loving it and will use it as my go-to day pack. It’s the perfect size, the multiple compartments keep everything nice and organized, and the combo of open stretch and zippered hip pocket is awesome - I struggle sometimes with the zipper so the stretch one is good for things I’m frequently pulling out!I wanted to respond to the review about it not working for hiking poles - flip them around! I put mine in handle-down and it works just fine, and no worries about the tip poking through the mesh!I subtracted a star for not having a good spot to externally store a rain cover.Good for other purposes too… I travel for work and it works just fine for carrying my laptop and other airplane carry-on ... My wife picked up this pack recently, and I was so impressed with it that I started to try convince myself that I needed a larger pack (I don’t).The materials are strong, but fairly light for this class of bag. I also really like the water bladder pocket being outside of the pack. Simple but smart design. Easily fits a 3L bladder as well which is great. Hip belts are also nicer than I was expecting. If you need to haul some gear, or carry stuff for kids/family, this would be a great solution. All around, everything I would want in a pack this size. If they made the exact same thing in an 18-20L I probably would have grabbed that over the Matador Beast 18.
I am exceedingly happy with this pack. Just hiked 11 miles into The Wave and was comfortable the entire 10 hour day, rock scrambling and all. The hip belt is perfect for offloading at the shoulders and the various zipper pouches are great for accessing different gear. Though it doesn’t come with a hydration pack, it does have the area for a 3L and hose feed loop at the shoulder. Overall, highly recommend! Note: I am a 5’4” woman and this pack fit great!
First thing to note is that the description on the website doesn't match the images of the product - it talks about hipbelt pockets (which would be good yet still 'minimalist') but this rucksack doesn't have any. I like those pockets for storing things like my phone and a snack so that it's easy to access. It also felt less deep than the measurements given on the website, but maybe it could have stretched a bit more. This might work well if only packing an extra layer or two and lunch, but I found that if trying to pack different shaped things (like a spotting 'scope), it meant the back of the bag wasn't as comfortable as it changed shape and didn't remain flat. I'm used to using rucksacks with a frame that isn't altered by filling the bag. The side stretch pockets ... I'm used to using rucksacks with a frame that isn't altered by filling the bag. The side stretch pockets were tricky to use with the rucksack on my back as the bottles (1L Camelbak) are partly behind instead of just to the side. Maybe a narrower bottle would work better? The location of the side mesh, partly being on the front of the bag meant it was impacted by what was inside the bag. Was looking for a smaller bag to use on holiday as my usual daysack is too big and heavy to pack into my 60L rucksack but sadly this bag doesn't quite work for me.It was, however, good to have the compression straps and the front pocket looked useful. Also, nice choice of colours. With some improvements this could be a good range of bags.
I was excited to upgrade to a 25l pack. I have the talon 11 and love how comfortable it is, but needed something slightly bigger for shoulder and winter seasons and for traveling ( I am comparing this to the talon 22). I really wanted to love this pack but find it is lacking a few things in order to keep it. The space is great and offers a lot more storage than the talon 22 however, 1) no rain cover included and no separate area to store it 2) the side pockets are extremely small. With cell phones getting bigger, a larger hip pocket would have been appreciated and the open top one will barely fit a snack bar or buff. As others mentioned most of the hip pocket is also covered by the strap which makes it smaller than intended. A obvious design flaw. 3) the trekking ... MoreI was excited to upgrade to a 25l pack. I can’t use them with the baskets on the pole or the rubber tip. On a hike, this will be time consuming to remove the baskets and/or tips in order to stow the poles 4) the shoulder straps and hip belt could use just a little more padding. I realize it’s a lighter pack, but the talon is much more comfortable. Overall the pack is “ok”. It has a few design flaws that should be rectified on the next version and I’m unsure how comfortable it will be on long day hikes (I usually go out for 10-12 miles).
I haven't put this pack through it's paces on a long trek yet, but it's been great for day hiking "trial runs" so far. I love the exterior access for the hydration pack, the hip belt w/zip pocket and pouch (so nice after a useless waist belt on my last day pack!), the trekking pole loops (a new feature for me), and that the compartments are perfect for my packing style. I feel like it's just the right amount of organization for me... Separate spots for layers, snacks, and other gear, without any fiddly bits. I can fit my lip balm and a couple Shot Blocks in the hip pocket, the external pockets are great for quick-access items, and the pack lashes down really well if I don't fill it up completely. Because it's frameless, it will also pack up really well inside a carry-on for international travel. Oh - and I personally think the purple colorway is LOVELY. I love my (aging) Osprey Aura 65 and am glad I could find this unique option for a lower-volume pack.
I got this pack to do a R2R2R of the Grand Canyon. It was the perfect size for the 2 day hike. My favorite feature was how it compressed down after the first day's worth of food was gone, which made it comfortable and not swing around with the excess room. The variety of different pockets made it really simple to compartmentalize the different things I packed, so I was able to find everything when I needed to without digging to the bottom of my pack or pulling everything out. My primary complaint is that the hip belt pockets weren't big enough to comfortably fit my cell phone, and the pockets were set far enough back that it was an inconvenient reach to pull snacks out of them. Not a deal breaker, but worth mentioning for folks who like having easy access. I ended ... MoreI got this pack to do a R2R2R of the Grand Canyon. It was the perfect size for the 2 day hike. I ended up purchasing theOsprey Hydraulics Sternum Strap and Tube Magnet Kit to go with my hydration system as there isn't a great option for clipping the hose otherwise, but I did like that the bladder rested in an entirely separate pouch so that there was that extra bit of protection between the things inside the pack and the water bladder. I ended up drenching myself multiple times during the hike because of the heat, and despite getting fairly wet, all of my things inside the pack remained dry. Overall way more comfortable than any pack has a right to be over 44 miles!
