I received the Owlet Cam 2 complimentary from Influenster in exchange for my honest review. I am really happy with this camera. For a while, I have been searching for one that I can put up in his room. He just turned one but now more than ever I needed a high quality cam as extra eyes. I love that the video is super clear, has sound, and I am able to zoom in while watching live feed on the Owlet app. I am able to save and watch recorded clips of my baby. Some other features that I love from the cam and are unique are having temperature and humidity readings, audio, and sound, motion, and cry notifications. Of course, nothing is better than parental supervision but the Owlet Cam 2 is so useful when we have to step away for a little bit. I do wish the cam was wireless ... Overall I love this cam and I recommend it to any new parents.

After a year, there are a number of things I dislike about this monitor. First of all, it doesn’t come with any kind of receiver so you have to essentially have an iPad to use with it to see the video. Yes, you can use your phone, but you can’t use your phone for anything else if you want to *see* the video, which is extremely inconvenient. Secondly, because it is wifi based, at times the camera would disconnect from the iPad, stopping the video and audio footage. There is NO alert when this happens, and because it stops the video footage, your iPad/phone will go into rest/sleep mode and turn off. This has happened a handful of times; I wake up in the night and the video stopped with the iPad off or I wake up in the morning and it’s off! The entire point is to make ... The final straw was this weekend when the sound keeps cutting out. It’s doing it on our iPad and both our phones! I woke up this morning to video but no sound, and my son is cutting two teeth. He could have been crying overnight and who knows how long until I’d hear him. Even when it’s working the way it’s supposed to, there would sometimes be a 30-60 second delay on the audio/video! We’d hear a loud car pass by and be shocked at how long it took to hear it on the monitor. Overall, it’s an extremely unreliable way to monitor your baby.

This is an updated review after about a year of use. We got both the Owlet Cam 2 and Sock as a registry gift before our daughter was born. We have had a ton of issues, especially of late, with connection to the internet. As I write this, I think my daughter is asleep but I cannot check because the camera is offline. We had some initial set up issues with staying connected to Wifi, but those seemed to go away when we put a range extender in her room within two feet of the camera. For the last few months, we have had intermittent disconnections, and more recently consistent disconnections of the camera from the Wifi that is being emitted two feet away. The only way that you know that it has lost connection is if you go on there to check on your kiddo and it says that it is unable to display video. I could understand the connection issues without the Wifi range extender, especially if there is a significant distance or substantial construction material that the Wifi has to get through. But, I have a hard time recommending a product that won't stay connected when the internet is right next to it. Do not waste your money or time. Do better Owlet

This camera is incredibly finicky to setup and requires 2.4gz WiFi and is not mesh WiFi compatible. We’ve moved a few times since our son was born and it’s a headache to reset each time. (Writing this after four failed resets and have it unplugged for a timeout before I try again.) I cannot believe I paid $160 for it; glad to see they’ve dropped the price since. It offers what feels like no features and the alerts aren’t responsive or customizable enough to give me confidence in it being our overnight alert system. Days after moving our son to his own room at 5 months, I wound up buying a cheap VTECH audio only monitor for a constant audio stream because the alerts were that unreliable. Some of that may have just been first time mom anxiety, but it was fraction of the price compared to replacing the camera. When we have a second child, we will be replacing this video monitor with a one that better functions and supports two camera.
If you’re looking for a camera and are going drop some money, don’t buy this. I am beyond frustrated with this company. 160+ tax down the drain. App takes forever to load, back when my camera was working- it would disconnect from wifi even though the router in the same room. I am tech savvy and have done everything I could to fix it. It’s not my wifi, it’s not my firewall or anything at all. The camera just doesn’t want to work or reconnect. Then as a last resort I called customer service, they proceed to tell me everything I’ve been doing for the last couple days, download the “route this helps” sent them screen shot with everything and they PROCEED TO GIVE ME STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS WITH EVERYTHING IVE BEEN DOING TWO DAYS AND THE SAME INSTRUCTIONS THAT I DID ... Overall, I really like this camera. We were shopping around for awhile for baby cameras but we never made a decision. So when we got selected to try this one, I was super happy and excited to try it. It retails for around $160 at Walmart, Target and Kohl’s. The camera is sleek and the entire design is thoughtful. I love that there’s equipment to conceal the cord. I love that there is a temperature gauge as well. The audio and camera quality could be better, however I’m not quite sure if that is attributed to my ATT internet service or not. We are switching providers this month, so I’ll find out and update my review. The night vision is pretty great too. The notifications lagged at first but adjusted pretty quickly. We are switching providers this month, so I’ll find out and update my review. The night vision is pretty great too. The notifications lagged at first but adjusted pretty quickly. I could adjust the sensitivity a bit because at the setting I’ve put it on, the camera picks up sounds from outside and across the house. That’s some great technology. I love that the camera swivels at 360 degrees. It also stays securely in place, I can appreciate that. It’s high enough that my baby couldn’t possibly pull it down or bother it. Another plus. The only real issue I have is that the camera disconnected once and that frightened me because what if our daughter was in there and needed us but we weren’t notified. However, after reconnecting it, there have been no issues. Again, it could be our internet. Setup is pretty seamless, but connecting the camera with app using the QR code was more tedious that I expected it to be. There is a manual alternative but I didn’t go that route. It seemed even more tedious. Overall, this is a very great camera. The app has many qualities as well. Motion, sound, cry and temperature detection are all very important when it comes to baby monitors. I think it’s well worth the cost. I imagine it will last us through many more babies. It’s the latest in technology.
Clearly other reviewers have had a better experience, but I couldn't be further from pleased with this product. In my use of the app for the Owlet Cam 2, it is a point of daily frustration.(1) When initially opening the app, I often have to close and re-open as it crashes while connecting to the camera - sometimes this needs to be repeated several times(2) Leaving the app running on screen will eventually cause the app to hard crash, leading to the least fun loop of closing and re-opening due to the previous issue(3) Leaving the app running in the background will also lead to a crash, not that you would know of course, because it's in the background(4) Camera streaming quality is very poor, wifi connection is very good, so I can only assume this is due to ... Should have been locally connected.(5) Notifications for movement has an annoying number of false positives. The dumbest one is when the camera switches IR on or off, which it interprets as movement - how has that not been picked up in QA?!I'm pretty sure the app is horribly unstable, but I also question the overall design. I completely regret purchasing this *premium* camera. I'd have been better off with a wifi security camera. If it wasn't attached to the wall, and if I'd have used this immediately after purchase, it would be going straight back to John Lewis.
Just as many other reviews have stated, the camera is absolutely horrible. We bought it 6 months ago after our second child was born. We lost our first child a year prior, and wanted a monitoring system for peace of mind.Long story short, it worked well for a few months, then all of a sudden stopped working. Not connecting at all, I decided to remove the device from the app and try to "re-add" it under my profile. The setup is SO FRUSTRATING!!! It refuses to scan the QR code. I followed all the instructions, set my internet connection to 2.4 GHz, disabled mesh network, moved it closer to the router, reset router/camera/phone, used a larger screen for the QR code, etc, to no avail. Doing these recommended steps also ended up disconnecting the sock base from the ... MoreJust as many other reviews have stated, the camera is absolutely horrible. I even contacted costumer service several times, with no help, and even had disconnections several times without my questions being answered .Given the trauma my family has gone through in the past, this system has definitely added to our anxiety. I would think long and hard before buying this. It seems to be a running theme with the most recent reviews.
We've had this camera since before our (now almost two year old) daughter was born. We also have the sock, and the sock I would buy again in an instant, but this camera is hands down the worst baby product I spent money on. I'm not even trying to be nasty here, but we have struggled to keep this camera connected to our internet and our phones for over two years now, and we've finally given up completely. When everything else in our house connects and works fine, this thing drops signal and connection constantly. And the warranty is pretty terrible considering a lot of people do what we did - they buy things before the baby even arrives to nest to be ready, so you don't even have 12 months from when you actually start to use it find out if anything is wrong or you ... We had to buy a $50 camera to supplement this one because we can't rely on it, and the cheap one hasn't dropped signal once. I can't recommend it at all. I recommend the sock, but not the camera. incredibly disappointing.
When unboxing the Owlet Cam 2, I was surprised by the strength of the magnetic pull between the camera and the base. I feel like the camera is secure and I don't have to worry about it falling off.The Owlet Cam 2 connected to WiFi with ease and set-up was simple. I like that you can have the status light enabled or disabled, and that it changes colors from blue to red when someone is viewing the baby monitor through the app. What I find annoying is that when you first open the app, it takes a moment to connect to the camera. If you hear something in the baby's room or get a cry detection notification, there is a delay before you can actually see what is happening.I appreciate that you can talk through your phone and have sound come out of the baby monitor, but ... You also have to quickly disable the mic and turn the speaker icon back on in the app in order to hear again after you speak through the app to the monitor. The one thing I absolutely cannot tolerate, and the reason the star rating isn't higher, is the insane amount of feedback when you are on the same floor of the house as the baby monitor. A high pitched screech comes through my phone and won't go away until I shut the app. I can't have the audio setting be "background" for this reason.Imagine trying to check your baby during a nap and they get startled awake by the loud, terrible noise on your phone that won't stop.
