Disappointing camera for the price

I planned to use it on an upcoming trip instead of lugging my DSLR equipment with me but after spending a week taking nature and family pictures I decided to return it, and thank B&H for their no-questions asked return policy.First the positive:Yes, it is compact, not too heavy though heavier than I expected, and the zoom lens is extremely useful. I bought the kit with the belt carry pouch, and it is an excellent way to have the camera ready while moving from location to location. An astonishing number of features, most however difficult to understand or not really useful. If you are really looking for a useful point and shoot camera for travel, are not expecting to blow your pictures up to more than about 8x10 and will use the pictures as they come out of the camera, despite all the drawbacks I list below you will probably like this camera. The negatives:For my taste, as a serious amateur (and I am not a pixel-peeper), the JPG images it creates are soft and lacking in sharp definition. There is a RAW option, but unless buried somewhere in the copious menu or on-line instructions, I could not find a way to get it to create RAW files that Lightroom or Photoshop could read, and did not want a set of proprietary software just to be able to edit in its proprietary RAW format (.RW2).The white balance needed manual control to be effective in indoor lighting, and exposure often seemed to err on the under-exposure side unless manually adjusted. Strangely, this did not happen using the video mode, and I though the video shooting was the best feature in the cameras repertoire. The very limited aperture range tended to drive to high ISO shots, causing noticeable pixelation which had to be removed aggressively with noise reduction software in Photoshop. There was noticeable shutter delay which resulted in missed shots of people. This is a very serious drawback if you wish to use the camera to photographs your children or grandchildren, typical in my experience of point and shoot cameras but not what I expected from such an expensive camera. The menu system is loaded with features, but neither the little booklet that came with the camera nor the very large on-line manual could explain well in many cases. For a point and shoot camera, I think most of these features would be best relegated to a semi-professional camera, as setting some of them incorrectly can be very confusing. The most surprising thing of all was the obscure WiFi transfer set up which took me literally hours to get to operate. First it seems I needed to connect the camera by Bluetooth to your cellphone, and only then fiddle with WiFi setting until I strike it lucky and managed to connect to one (but no all) of my various WiFi networks. Once connected, things work as advertised - I could actually control the camera from my cell phone using the Panasonic App, but uploading the pictures was very slow, and I could only get it to upload to new folders the camera created on my computer, not to my usual picture folders. In the end I gave up and simply removed the SD card, uploaded, and returned it to the camera for new shots.I also experienced the camera freezing up once or twice as another reviewer mentioned. I removed the battery and put it back in and the camera then continued to function correctly.

Great Basic Zoom Camera for Experienced Users
20 May 2023

This was a very nice camera, with an excellent zoom and it took great pictures and videos. However, I ended up returning it for a variety of reasons. In the modern age it's really nice to have a shooting grip with wireless remote so you can hold the camera up and click the grip. Additionally, I realized quickly it helps to have a flip screen so you can take a picture of yourself (maybe with your friends/family) easily. This camera does neither and would only be good for a strict "point and shoot" traditional camera. Parts are harder to find as this is not a common camera and even some grips that claimed to work did not do so (I tried a few). The menu system was really confusing and counterintuitive, and it was extremely difficult to sync this camera with your phone via the Panasonic app. There were too many complicated menus and buttons you could accidentally press that turned on settings that were difficult to undo. I ended up going with a different brand that supported a grip and had a flip screen and was TRULY just point and shoot. However, if I had all the money in the world, I might have kept this camera as well as my "selfie camera" as the Lumix ZS200DK really did have the superior zoom and was very nicely made. I was a camera buff I bet all those crazy settings and options would have been a boon. It was half the price of the other camera I ended up going with in the end, so if you don't care about grips and being able to take selfies you would be really happy with this camera.

Great Travel Camera!

I do like that it's offset to the left of the screen because my schnoz doesn't leave an imprint on the screen! I'm really looking forward to traveling with this camera - it'll be easier to pack and carry. BTW I recommend MegaGear's leather case (also purchased from B&H) that's specifically for this Lumix. Great protection, easy to access the camera and best of all looks classy and retro. To top it off B&H is the best for service and selection! I give them 6 Stars!

Highly capable camera, but also extremely complex.
11 October 2021

Overall, I like this camera pretty well. It is extremely complex and the manual does not cover that complexity well. Examples: during my recent vacation, I somehow activated the 'take a picture by touching the screen' function. I don't know how I did that or how to turn it off, resulting in a lot of deleting of pictures of the ground. Also, the location of the FN1 button so near the finger grip means I often push it by accident just while holding the camera. Example 2: I have had a really hard time figuring out the macro capabilities. Sometimes it works like I expect, but often I can't get it to focus as close as I expect it to. And I guess there is a setting somewhere that changes the focus assist from the outline in blue to a magnified area of the screen (that is ... MoreOverall, I like this camera pretty well. And when using polarized sunglasses, the screen and viewfinder are both almost black when the camera is turned to portrait mode.I do like the zoom capability, but it is almost impossible to use it to take pictures of birds in flight, as the focus is too slow to adjust. I haven't tried it with manual focus preset to infinity, which might work better. The modal menu structure and functions are also very confusing. My recommendation is qualified by saying that I would only recommend the camera to someone willing to invest the time to learn how to use it, a significant amount of time.

Lumix ZS200 Great Travel Camera
24 July 2022

I was looking for a good travel camera that could exceed what my phone could do. This camera received good reviews on several sites which also explain some of the features and compromises involved with having an integrated 24-360mm,zoom lens better that I could but so far I have been very happy with it. For me it has all the features I was looking for such as the 1" sensor at a decent price point and is small enough to easily carry around on travel. Adorama had the best price and their bundle made buying it here a no-brainer. Highly recommend the bundles, mine came with a load of accessories including a second battery, charger, tripod, case, and more for only about $10 more than everyone else was charging for just the camera.

Top-notch travel camera

I have owned several previous Panasonic Lumix compact travel cameras, the last being the DC-ZS100. They have been excellent for what I use them for, namely, a means of shooting quality images with the convenience of a small, lightweight camera that fits in a small case and attaches to the shoulder strap of my backpack while hiking, making it instantly accessible. Versatility, customization options, RAW capability, and image quality, not to mention the increased zoom range from 24mm to 360, make this latest model a no brainer for me. The time-lapse feature is nice as well for capturing clouds and their shadows moving across the landscape. Very good travel camera
17 March 2023

The Lumix ZS-200 is a great travel camera. I used for a tour with a group. You don't have time to change lenses or make major adjustments. I still have a lot to learn about various shooting options. I heavily used the exposure bracketing, panoramas, exposure compensation. Switching between modes was easy, but remembering the exposure setting for the next stop was where I made some (not disastrous errors). Auto focus worked great. My one complaint was that the camera was not rugged. A small drop fouled the shutter over of the lens. Fortunately, this was relatively easy to fix with a toothpick. I've tried some other features that worked well, focus stacking was easy, HDR worked well.
