A super exfoliant!

I've been using Paula's Choice's new skin perfecting liquid exfoliant for about 2 weeks now, and I'm a fan! Before this one, I had the AHA & BHA exfoliant from Paula's Choice and I was really excited about that, and when this new one was released, of course, I had to try it too. I applied the exfoliant every night after washing my face with my hands, not with cotton wool. Both are possible, but I like it best to just apply it with my hands because then I have the feeling that it hits the skin just a little bit more directly. My skin looks smoother and lighter. I also always suffer from dark spots around my nose and the exfoliant seems to address them too! The packaging is simple but easy to use, it's best to shake the bottle slightly to get the product out, because you can't squeeze the bottle easily. The smell of the product is a bit on the strong side, but I expected that because of the acids in the product. You can only smell this slightly when applied, but once it's on your skin, you won't smell anything. So all in all, I'm very satisfied with the product, I still think it's a bit fast to really see what it does for my skin but it certainly does something good! It may be a bit of an investment, but from my experience with Paula's Choice, I know you can really take a long time with the exfoliant and I personally think it's really worthwhile!

The packaging of this product is simple, but has some nice details (the word Exfoliate contains glitter and the bottle comes with a seal). With this product, it was recommended to use it every other day at the beginning, then twice a day. Using this product is very simple; you start with a cleanser and toner so that your skin is clean. Then apply this exfoliant to your face and neck with your fingers or a cotton pad. You don't have to wash it off. Then you can apply a moisturizer. If you wear this product during the day, it is recommended to use an SPF 30 or higher. The 3 main ingredients of this exfoliant are: - Mandelic Acid (almond acid): due to its large molecular size and lower penetration rate, this is the softest AHA. - Lactic Acid: This acid can be extracted from milk or made in a laboratory; it helps the skin shed dead skin cells so that wrinkles and discolorations become less visible. - Yarrow Extract (yarrow extract): This ingredient contains soothing and antioxidant properties that rejuvenate the skin's surface. This means that the product reduces fine lines, repairs the affected skin barrier and renews the skin below the surface for healthier cell renewal. My experiences with this product have been very positive: I applied this product as indicated, first a cleanser and then a toner. Then I applied a few drops of this product to my fingers and then spread it over my entire face and neck. Finally, I finished it off with moisturizer + SPF. When you try to pour the product; only a little comes out - so you can't accidentally use too much product (ideal!) The consistency of this exfoliant is watery. The smell is present but not disturbing. I've been using this product for a few weeks now, my skin feels softer, looks brighter and got its "glow" back. Previously, I had dull skin, luckily this is now a thing of the past. My fine lines have also become a lot less visible (especially in my forehead). I would definitely recommend this product, especially for people who, like me, suffer

This exfoliant includes mandelic acid and lactic acid. Paula's Choice states that it is suitable for all skin types. I can certainly confirm that, this is the mildest exfoliant I've ever used. I don't think there are many people who get an annoying skin reaction to this. It is a fairly small bottle, 88ml for €39 is slightly higher in price compared to the same price for the best-selling BHA liquid where you get 118ml. After use, my skin certainly doesn't feel 'tight', it feels soft and smooth. I applied this product every morning and evening after cleansing my face after using a toner. I applied the exfoliant with my fingers, you can also do this with a (reusable) cotton pad, but it is a lot more economical when you only use your fingers. You can even use this in the region of your eyes, but try to avoid the lash line and your eyes. After the exfoliant, I finished with a day or night cream. During the day, I also like to use a loose SPF over it. Although this is a very mild exfoliant, it works great. I will definitely continue to use this bottle. The only reason I prefer the BHA lotion is because I personally like the texture better. When using a liquid, I have the idea that a lot disappears from your hands or evaporates. I feel like BHA does about the same thing as AHA. That's not entirely correct, AHA works ON the surface of the skin, where BHA works deeper into the pores.

Great for sensitive, acne-prone skin
13 May 2024

I have sensitive and acne-prone skin - I bought this product because although my skin has almost completely cleared up from active acne, I have loads of scars and still get the occasional breakout. I wasn't using any actives and I wanted something fairly gentle to help with hyperpigmentation and getting rid of the occasional breakout and this did the job! I was quite nervous using it on my sensitive skin so I started using it only once a week for the first four weeks and then increased to twice a week. If you have sensitive skin, I recommend doing that - paula's choice recommend every other day which might be okay for some people but honestly if you have sensitive skin I would start very slow. I didn't have much irritation (it never stung) but my skin did feel a bit tight and distressed at first however, within a couple of weeks my skin got used to it and LOVED it. I let the product sit on my skin for 15 mins before applying other products because I read that that can help your skin to better absorb mandelic acid. I then followed up with a barrier serum and a heavy, nourishing moisturiser which really helped my skin recover each time. At first, I had some purging in areas where I usually get breakouts which was annoying but also a sign that the product was working and it was worth it in the end. In just a month my hyperpigmentation got so much better and my skin got so much softer and more glowy. I highly recommend this if you struggle with acne and have sensitive skin - start slow, accept the purging and then reap the rewards.

I received this product complimentary from Paula's Choice in exchange for my review. I always review items as if I had paid full price for them, so my review is my honest, unbiased opinion. I like this stuff a lot! I would absolutely buy it in the future. I might look for a more modestly priced brand, but the product is great! It's a fairly small bottle - only 3 ounces - and the texture/consistency is a thin liquid - it looks and feels like water. I apply several drops to a cotton round and rub it all over my face. If it has a fragrance then it is an extremely light fragrance, I have not noticed any scent. I have used lactic acid MANY times in the past and was already a fan of that ingredient, but the mandelic acid was new to me. I have used lactic acid MANY times in the past and was already a fan of that ingredient, but the mandelic acid was new to me. It does not burn or sting my face. It dries quickly (within seconds) and leaves a very slightly sticky feeling on my face, almost imperceptible. My facial skin is combination - my cheeks and forehead are super dry and flaky, other areas are a bit oily. This product seems to even things out very well, it exfoliates gently but super effectively, eliminating the flakiness, leaving my whole face feeling extra soft and smooth. The oily areas don't feel any oilier than usual after using this product. It has not caused any redness or breakouts. I have nothing but great things to say about it. I have used it for about 2 weeks now, at first I used it every other day but it has been gentle enough to start using it daily with no issues. I love it, honestly, it makes my face look and feel markedly better. I absolutely recommend it.

No frills but super effective

I received this complimentary from Paula's Choice in exchange for my honest opinion. First off, I want to say how much I love that this brand describes the purpose of every single ingredient on the site! It's not on the bottle itself, but you can easily see why chocolate vine extract was included, as an example. If you know Paula from the Beauty Bible days this makes perfect sense :) This exfoliant is a fabulous utility product - by utility I mean it does a lot of work without many frills. Many super high end products are about the experience itself - amazing smell, beautiful packaging, etc. - but they don't really have many actives and don't do much in the end. To get the full benefits from something like this you need to use long term, but in one week of use I've noticed smoother skin with zero irritation. Mandelic and lactic acids are great for gradual but effective exfoliation. They are both almost at the top of the ingredient list so this is not one of the products that says it has an active but has so little that it doesn't make a difference. The liquid is thicker than water and isn't really runny, which is great as you can control the application amount and area exactly. This is a super easy, effective, and non-irritating way to incorporate real exfoliation into your skincare routine. Def recommend!

The best&most gentle skin renewing exfoliator
13 January 2024

I was gifted by paulaschoice in exchange for my honest opinion and sharing my personal experience with you.I'm absolutely impressed with the effectiveness and gentleness of this Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 6% Mandelic Acid + 2% Lactic Acid Liquid Exfoliant. After cleansing my face I simply apply a thin layer of this liquid exfoliant to my skin, you can use a cotton ball or apply it with your fingers. It is gentle and feels refreshing, no stinging feeling at all which I appreciate. This exfoliant feels like a nourishing toner. It only has a very light pleasant scent. This product is great for reversing the early signs of aging skin, the mandelic acid acts as a gentle exfoliant and helps fade sun and aging spots, as well as my post acne scars from years past. The lactic acid helps refine my facial skin texture from uneven and rough dull to smoother more even textured skin, my fine lines around my eyes and mouth have become less noticeable and evened out. Overall, my skin feels better, smoother and has a more even tone with a healthy natural glow. I highly recommend it. I love what I am seeing so far and will definitely continue to use this product!

This irritates my skin
30 January 2024

Initially I was able to use this without any problems. I do have very sensitive skin, but unless something is very strong, a sensitivity can take a week or so to appear.I started to feel a burning/stinging in areas where irritation has occurred in the past.I also noticed I could always sense fumes going up my nose (a bit off-putting), indicating its potency this lotion's.The side of my neck eventually started to burn (winter fabrics such as wool often rub on my neck, causing irritation), then when I avoided the neck, other sections of my face became more sensitive to the product, also burning when I used it, so I just stopped. It's been sitting on the shelf ever since!I've always thought, especially after having trained as a beauty therapist around 20 years ago, that overcleaning skin wasn't always good, because your skin reacts to the way you treat it. I'd have thought, being gentle was a better option. Up till now I was using an Oil cleanser (from another company, not water-soluble. It leaves a slight film on my skin, helpful because my skin is exceptionally dry & dehydrated.) It doesn't disturb the skin's barrier, yet dissolves all makeup. Not all skins are the same, so it isn't appropriate for everyone to exfoliate every day or even twice a day. I've been advised against it by various companies due the thinness, fairness and sensitivity of my skin. My skin is very reactive and flares up very easily due to high levels of anxiety I experience on a daily basis. This product isn't beneficial to me unfortunately.

Wow!
8 February 2024

I wasn't going to review this product this early on, but I just had too. Let me tell you, I am still in the purging stage as I am 4 weeks in and started purging about 1 week into using this product, it's worth noting that I am also using the 2% BHA and I alternate days. I did go through a really bad purging stage and still feel a light tingle when I use this product (I do over apply though and I am learning less is more). However, I just put some side by side photos of my skin before and my skin after, although my pores are my main concern (this was a free product I received with my purchase) I wanted to tackle my dark spots/ sun damage after I got my pores under control. Back to it, the improvement in my sunspots in 4 weeks is absolutely incredible, yes I am still ... MoreI wasn't going to review this product this early on, but I just had too. Back to it, the improvement in my sunspots in 4 weeks is absolutely incredible, yes I am still feeling the negative side affects that come with introducing two new skin care products to my sensitive face, but it's well worth it. I can't say I have noticed a change in my fine lines as I didn't take any before photos of it, but the tightness and brightness of my skin as well as my sun spots have improved dramatically. I will definitely be re-reviewing this product on the 8 week mark. Hoping my sample bottle last that long, if not I will definitely repurchase. I must say, the nights I use this product I wake up with much visibly nicer skin than I do when I use the 2% BHA. So if your addicted to the 2% BHA please try this product you won't regret it, it definitely does a better job and making you feel refreshed and your skin look tighter, brighter and just well rounded in the morning . I am still going through purging and I did get a lot of break outs the 2nd and 3rd week but be patient. As long as my purging subsides in the next 2 weeks this product is well worth it, the removal of my sun spots alone is absolutely incredible for only 4 weeks.
