We paired 4 of these with G-Tech rugged hard drives and they've been great. The hard drives just barely fit but that also helps them stay snug and secure during transport. There's just enough space for the wires, too. I love the clear top because our drives are labeled so we can see right into the case to see which one we're looking for instead of having to also label the case. Can also check to make sure the cord is in there without opening! Nice and secure, too. Might be difficult to open for some, you really have to wrangle it open but I like that for our purposes. I don't find the clip useful for us but it's easy enough to take off.

Pretty good case, well built, the color you see in the picture is a rubber, which is part of the leak proof seal. The case is completely clear. Good to have in your kit, if you have sensitive equipment. Just to give an idea the Inside length is a little over 6", inside width 3" 3/4, inside depth about 2" 1/2 with lid closed.

Bought one for my father as a gift. They're great for holding your cell phone, keys, money etc. No sand, water or sunscreen gets in. In the past I went snorkeling with it (sketchy country) but it's bulky and i don't recommend in case a wave comes. I have an older model that had a wrist band not a caribeaner. I prefer the wrist band, they should bring that back. This updated one has more padding, but less square inches because of that. I ended up getting my dad the 1060 because his large iphone7 doesn't fit in this one, but my galaxy 7 does.

I use this to keep my phone (and phones of friends) while floating down the river. Lashed it to the tube. No water got it (not to say that it is waterproof, this was just my experience). I use it to lug around my hotspot for fieldwork. It's a pelican. What did you expect? The electric green is nice just in case it gets misplaced.
This container is the perfect size for camping: fits a couple iPhones (6 & 6S), headlamp, tent-light, and some spare batteries. The rubberized insert makes a decent shock protection/padding for the contents... BUT IT'S NOT ACTUALLY WATERPROOF. After months of using it on back-packing trips, I took it sailing this weekend to keep my phone/wallet dry. Total failure. Two soggy ruined iPhones. There was not "moisture" inside; there was 2" of water inside a 2" deep container. And even worse, Pelican - as it turns out - does not have any guarantee on the CONTENTS of their cases - just replacement/refund of the defective case.In spite of Pelican advertising that these cases are submersible up to 1 meter depth for up to 30 minutes and IP67 rated containers, they're ... There are plenty of reviews confirming this. I wish I would have checked available reviews - or at least tested the container myself prior to using it. I HAD a high level of confidence in Pelican products based on previous experience and that this is advertised by REI as a product acceptable for water sports. Here's my advice:- Great case for simple organization with MILD (at best) moisture resistance inside your pack - but for that function, you can probably find cheaper alternatives!- Test the case before you submerge it with anything valuable in it. Put some tissues inside the case, submerge it for a while, see if the tissues are wet. I'm willing to bet they'll be wet. Return for full refund.- Just don't buy it.
I'll usually work with a product for a few months up to a year before I write a review. No need to with this case.I can see on the tag that this case is only water resistant. So last night I filled up the kitchen sink to test it out. I put in a lot of change to weigh it down then stuffed it with shreds of paper and cotton balls. It just wanted to float so I weighed it down and left it for 10 hours. When I pulled it out in the morning everything inside was perfectly dry.So that gave me the confidence to take it with me tonight kayaking. I put in my smart phone, wallet, e-cig and keys. Then I just clipped it in and went out. I noticed some muskrats swimming around in the lily pads so I went over to watch. I forgot what I was doing and capsized. It took a little ... MoreI'll usually work with a product for a few months up to a year before I write a review. When I got back to shore I opened it up and everything was perfectly dry.I no longer know the difference between waterproof and water-resistant anymore. All I know is this little case kept all my stuff dry. I'm glad I bought it!
If you search the Pelican 1050 case on the REI website. It comes up under the category of: "Paddling > Paddling Bags and Cases > Waterproof Cases"If you fail to click on the product "Details, Tab", REI states: Offering outstanding protection to your valuables, this case is water-resistant, dustproof and has an automatic pressure purge valve. In researching Pelicans website, they specifically state: Micro cases are not meant to be used while swimming and shouldn't be submerged.I feel that is easy to assume that the Pelican case is waterproof on the REI website. Sadly the case is not waterproof.Over the weekend my wife used the Pelican 1040 Micro case (smaller than the 1050 but same design) to store her smartphone. Sadly the case is not waterproof.Over the weekend my wife used the Pelican 1040 Micro case (smaller than the 1050 but same design) to store her smartphone. The case became submerged in a couple of inches of water. When she opened the case, she found water and her smart phone was ruined. Ouch!!!I will be returning the case to REI for a refund.
I've used Pelican forever for tools and secured storage. They are second to none. So when my camera's awkward shape for my camera bag came into a question of be damaged, don't carry, or protect it with a Pelican product, the latter was a no brainer. It's perfect. So many small item uses I can think of now. Glad I got two at a very good price here.
I bought this last Christmas for a different climbing friend, and she really likes it. The only one downside to this is that the carabiner is pretty cheap, so that’s why I took away 1 star. You should change the carabiner for a different one. If you are climbing and it breaks from being so cheap, it doesn’t matter how good the case is, it’s still falling down and probably whatever is inside will still break. But overall for this review (I asked her opinion so this is mainly her opinion), she is very happy with it.
I have been using Pelican Gear professionally for close to 50 years. In total I have approximately 25 of their cases and 30 of their Flashlights. The 1050 Clear Lid Micro Case (in yellow) is wonderful for both protecting your sensitive gear but also provides a Visual Inventory of crucial parts when loading for a job. This is not some little plastic box with a lid, it's a Visual Safety Kit Box!
