If you are on the water lots , more time in slightly lower light conditions, I’d say go for the Maven 7x28. Otherwise, for the money (2.5 times less$) these are my new go to Birding and can’t be beat for what you get. At 8x25 the exit Pupil is on the smaller side, but the porro prism makes up for it as does the twilight factor with higher mag. I’ve had nothing but good experience in the forest catching birds and appreciate what 8x is all about and I still love 6.5x and 10x for birding. For what you get I think there is a reason why these have been around for so long. I think it’s better then the Nikon traveler optically. The Papilio 2 (sibling) is better yet but 21 objective and not waterproof. I bought a pair of these 7 or 8 years ago. I used them a lot for kayaking and they worked very well. Unfortunately several parts failed, one of the objective covers came off and both strap attachments failed. Fairly good, for the price but I am now going back and going to spent the extra $50 for something that might last
