I searched for the best price for this product and John Lewis came out best. So much better I was worried that they had made a mistake and were going to send the white ambiance! The item is perfect for my small patio garden. The power is sufficient to light up the space with any colour of the rainbow. I have a house full of Hue and it was a doddle for the 'bridge' to find it. Luckily I had some lighting cable going spare so had it on the wall in under half an hour. Unlike other Hue products (internal and the outdoor Lily) this does not come with wiring. I now note that John Lewis is discounting this by 20% making it an even better bargain, so maybe another one for the front ...

Pros: Versatile lighting with fantastic luminosity and colour choice. Well made should last. Cons: When using with separate PIR sensor, it appears that you can choose a lighting profile, but can't alter the brightness level.

Instead of drilling new holes in the wall, I decide to drill 2 new holes in the ABS backplate to fix this to the wall. It replaced a halogen motion detector lamp. Inside the lamp there is a 40W LED driver. There is no gasket between the backplate and lamp base to protect the insides (wires, LED driver, etc) from the elements. The lamp can articulate sideways and vertically. Vertical articulation is fixed with a hex nut and cannot be changed without loosening the nut. Horizontal movement is free and can be changed easily with slight pushes.

Every bit the quality that I would expect from a Philips hue product. It works perfectly. As with all Philips hue products, they're designed to work with a "constantly on" power source. So if you are fixture is controlled by a light switch, then you need to remove the switch completely and permanently wire that circuit to be always on. Then cover with a blank switch plate. Control them with a Lutron Aurora or a Hue button, or Hue remote. (Or Google Assistant, or Alexa.) I have done this with all of my Philips hue bulbs including this amazing outdoor wall flood light. Set to "daylight" with 100% brightness, and it lives up to that setting name for sure! Colors like purple, red, green, and blue just pop and light up the night fully. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.
I use this to illuminate my driveway. It has to be linked to a Hue Bridge (sold separately) so that it can be controlled through the App. It's reasonably straightforward to setup. You have a massive spectrum of colours to choose from for the light. And you can set various behaviours as well. For example, mine is set to come on at 25% brightness with a warm hue at dusk and go off at dawn. Additionally I have a Hue motion sensor which when triggered between dusk and dawn triggers the light to increase to full brightness. Which is very bright! So if expandability and flexibly is what you're after, this may be the light for you.
The Hue Floodlight is difficult to recommend for most people in fairness, high price for a realistically mediocre output. However, if you have Hue already and a smart home controller, this device comes into it’s own. The light isn’t harsh like most floodlights and is diffused nicely across the garden. I’m knocking a star off for the price though, as it is steep. Installation is also fiddly as it can only be fed from the back, not the lower edge.
The fittings for this light were apparently not tested by the designers. The light cannot sit flush to an exterior wall due to the positioning of the interior components. I could probably saw some metal to make it work but I don’t like buying products that need modifications out of the box (I am not alone; read reviews on other sites) so I’m on the fence on keeping it. There isn’t room for the electronics in the base and the metal base plate it attaches to; it’s fairly simple for a product designer to solve but it’s an extremely annoying issue from an end consumer perspective. All of the other Hue products are great, including exterior pathway lights, but this one is maddening. The product is well built and fairly easy to install. Colors match with my other hue lights I am using. The only issue is the mounting, thus the 4-star rating. This light will not mount on a surface mounted box. This must be mounted on a flush box. Phillips Hue should make an optional back cover for purchase that will mount to a surface mounted electrical box and maintain water tightness. It is a simple fix. Once installed, the hub picked it up after a few tries. Since installed, the light has worked flawlessly. I recommend this light!
The Philips Hue Floodlight takes a bit more effort than other Philips Hue products to set up as you need to plug it directly into the mains. However it is still straightforward to install if you have sufficient knowledge on electrics. The end result is great with great range of colours which can easily change the ambiance of the area you lighting. Great to enhance your outside seating area and to set the mood. Definitely recommend.

I replaced my aging outdoor (and very dim) light to cover my extended patio and its the perfect fixture to create a cosy ambiance into the warmer evenings.
