This is the first new shaver that I've tried in awhile. I have an older trimmer that I use to sharpen up my beard and other areas, and a set of standard corded hair clippers that my wife routinely manages to not maim me with, and that's a situation that's worked pretty well.I saw that this trimmer could double as clippers, and that it's also cordless, and decided to try it out.My first impression on opening the box was that I was impressed that everything managed to be packed inside such a neat little storage case. There are a LOT of options. Six different heads for every possible application, and a wide variety of guards, two adjustable, to ensure you get the right length. No brick to plug it into, but you should already have several of those lying in a junk drawer somewhere.I do my best to maintain my gear, because yeah, it's only hair, but blades still get dull over time. Even so, both my wife and I were surprised at how quickly this mows through hair, even with a smaller than usual pair of clippers (about 2/3 standard width), and the smaller size actually made it easier to maneuver around my ears. It produced a very even cut in a single pass with no issues, and my hair is fairly thick. The body hair attachments so far work great. I haven't nicked or pinched anything while grooming, and while I've used it quite a bit, it's still running on the initial charge I gave it, with no signs that it's starting to get low on charge. I'm very impressed with the battery life. This small set now replaces both my other trimmers and frees up valuable bathroom drawer space. Philips made a winner here. I'd definitely recommend it.

This is my second Philips Norelco beard trimmer, I have the Multigroom 7000 as well so I can provide a good comparison between the two where it applies. After receiving the trimmer, I did a full charge and went through the instructions. I have built up my winter “coat”, so I’ve already managed to trim my beard, neck, body, and side burns.Starting out, I like the travel case that comes with it. Much better than the little bag with 20+ pieces jumbled up in it that comes with the 7000 series. I am not a fan of how the power cord doesn’t come with a USB block, just the cable. The 7000 comes with a regular charging cable which I prefer. Not sure if this tactic was to save money or make it easier to pack and just share charging usb blocks with your phone, but they do ... Much better than the little bag with 20+ pieces jumbled up in it that comes with the 7000 series. I am not a fan of how the power cord doesn’t come with a USB block, just the cable. The 7000 comes with a regular charging cable which I prefer. Not sure if this tactic was to save money or make it easier to pack and just share charging usb blocks with your phone, but they do say if you need a charging block to contact support, I assume they will ship you one upon request. The 7000 charger does not work on the 9000 either…not sure what the point was of changing the plug between the two, they are both nearly identical. The trimmer itself is quite similar to the 7000 series, in size & weight, and the same attachment sizes. You get about 6 hours of usage from a full charge on the 9000, about an hour more than advertised for the 7000. The 9000 comes with adjustable beard guards which I really like. You get one that adjusts from 1-3mm with micro adjustments between, and then one from 3-7mm. These were a great idea. It was annoying fumbling through a bag full of guards of different colors, trying to find the right size I needed. This way, I only have to keep one or two guards with me at all times to cover all the sizes I need, and can adjust most sizes without swapping them out.TRIMMERSRating the trimmers from 1-5 (5 is best):Body Groomer – 1, had to go over it several times and still would only barely trim.Nose Trimmer – 3, pretty standard for a nose trimmer. Never been impressed with these from any trimmer I’ve owned, I prefer small scissors.Precision Shaver – 2, felt like it was barely picking up anything when trying to shave my neck.Hair and Extra-wide Trimmer – 5, equally good with the 7000. Cuts well and is sharp.Precision Trimmer – n/a, Don’t ever use it. No point for it IMO unless you want to draw designs on your head. I can reach everything else with the standard trimmer.I’m not sure why the body groomer and shaver were even added, if I was using them correctly they were performing poorly…almost useless. Just like with the 7000, I prefer to use the bare trimmer itself. It works great on the body and neck area. I like to use the wide-trimmer on the body because it covers more area and doesn’t nick or cut as much as the regular trimmer even though its designed to be used on the scalp.GUARDSThis is a weird setup IMO. You have a single size eyebrow guard, which didn’t work for me because they are too big, so you must have to have some really thick eyebrows to get them trimmed. There are only 2 size body trimmer yet there are 6 scalp trimmers. And as mentioned earlier, 2 adjustable guards for the beard. Its like they prioritized the trimmer more on people cutting scalp hair with this rather than body and or beards. I’m not sure who would want tiny clippers to cut their head, but that would seem to be the lowest priority for me when shopping for beard clippers. I wished they did include more body or beard guards that were non-adjustable. The adjustable ones, while great, are clunky and big, and make it tough to reach small or narrow areas of your body. These plastic guards must only cost them a dime a piece, so not sure why not add a few more. I ended up trimming my body hair with the bare blade trimmer because I like a close cut, and the 5 & 3mm sizes weren’t small enough for me. Plus the bare trimmer cuts better than having a guard and doesn’t build up hair within the guard. To summarize and share my final thoughts, this trimmer does the job well. The case is nice and easy to pack in a bag. The adjustable beard guards are the nicest accessory to come with it for me, however, I don’t see where the price jump between the 7000 to 9000 is justified. I was expecting something much more premium since the 9000 costs about 45-55% more than the 7000, but the cut, trimmer device, and general usage felt nearly identical. The extra shaver attachments didn’t provide any benefit for me, felt like cheap add-ons that were put there for marketing. Nevertheless, the trimmer itself works well and provides you with most of what you will probably need. I’ve had the 7000 for 3.5 years and it still functions great, so I expect many quality years out of this one.
My multigroom was used and the serial numbers didn’t match up. So I returned it. Informed the cashier and decided to get a different one (Manscape Lawnmower)It had been used too.At this point, I was more than a little upset and grossed out. I decided to exchange the lawn mower for another Philips multigroom 9000. at a completely different Best Buy location just because I wanted a new multigroom..It had hairs and had been used. Pics attached of the latest one.I remember the days before Amazon, I remember Bed, Bath and Beyond. I remember Pier 1. I remember when Best Buy sold legit products. Those days are long gone.Apologize for not providing more pictures. Those are from the last one I bought.I’m so grateful that Best Buy allows returns of hygienic products.
This grooming tool is truly one of the best all-in-one values I have ever used as part of my grooming routing. It is pretty incredible at this price to have a shaver that is capable of handling the taming of the hair basically around your entire body, wet or dry.The included attachments appear to cover practically all of ones grooming needs. The evidence of how innovative Philips was in designing this kit is entirely abundant. I have utilized every attachment except for the hair styling and fading attachments for a haircut, and I can attest that every one of the attachments worked for its advertised purpose and kit or trimmed with precision. The beard trimming tools are what I spent the most time with. The standard steel trimmer and the extra-wide hair trimmer were my favored attachments for cutting back my pesky neck hairs quickly. For precision shaping around my jaw line, I utilized the steel precision trimmer and the precision shaver (a foil-type shaver attachment) to really cut the small hairs back and get the precise line of my jaw that my wife loves so much. For my beard itself, I loved the innovative precision trimming guard that allowed me to trim my beard and moustache to a precise 3mm length! If you like your beard longer, the second adapter goes all the way up to 7mm and beyond that you can utilize the variety of labeled and easy to attach hair guards that go all the way up to 16mm in length! The nose and ear trimmer is an excellent addition to this package. I normally have a separate nose and eyebrow trimmer I use as part of my grooming routine, but I used this attachment for my nose, and it worked superbly without pulling or tugging any of the hairs out! The eyebrow trim guard, however, leaves the eyebrow hairs a little long for my taste but would work in a pinch to keep the eyebrow hairs tamed! One of the best parts of this whole package is the portability of it all! It comes with an amazing hard shell carrying case that everything fits neatly into. Most importantly, out of the four previous Norelco trimmers I have used, Philips has FINELY included a USB-A charging cable for a shaver! I love this because now this shaver can be charged on the go with any USB-A port, whether it is on a wall adapter or a portable power bank! This truly increases the portability of it and means that you don’t have to worry about finding an AC plug specifically for this charger. The only thing I think that could have further improved the versatility and portability of this shaver is if the shaver itself utilized a USB-micro or USB-C port instead of this proprietary double prong barrel style plug as most of Norelco shavers utilize. Even still, the USB-A cord is a huge upgrade! Just note that they did not include a wall adapter for it, so you will have to pick up or utilize one of your own––not too difficult to accommodate these days when so many of us have many USB-A wall adapters laying around! Also of note but less important, the shaver came without any charge from the factory, so it required a few minutes of charging before I could use it for my first trim!Altogether, this is an astonishingly good value of a grooming tool. I would suggest it as a gift for husbands, boyfriends, fathers, grandfathers, sons, okay––basically any fellow who is in need of an excellent multiuse grooming tool! Thank you so much for reading this review and I hope it helps to guide your purchase decision!

Inside, you’re presented with the trimmer and a firm zipper shell case. Inside the case are all the included attachments and trimmer heads you might need, a very helpful manual that explains the intended purpose for each attachment, the USB-A to DC power cable, as well as a compartment to store the trimmer itself. For the included blades, you have a body groomer with skin protector, an extra-wide hair trimmer, a precision trimmer, nose/ear hair trimmer, precision shaver, and a full-size hair trimmer. As for attachment guards, they are categorized by color. The 3 light gray guards have a focus on the body and eyebrows with the full-size hair trimmer, while the 7 medium gray guards have a focus on scalp hair with the extra-wide hair trimmer, and the 2 black guards are for your beard and scalp hair with the full-size hair trimmer.POWER & BATTERY:It’s important to note that this kit does not include a power adapter. The manual and the trimmer itself are labeled with a recommended 5V==1A rating, and the manual suggests a power adapter that you can buy from Philips. If for some reason, you really want to overpay for a basic 5V==1A USB adapter, you can find the Philips HQ87 for around $26 + shipping on the Philips Encompass parts portal. In terms of battery life, Philips Norelco claim a 5 minute charge can be enough for a quick shave, but a proper 3 hour charge can yield you 6 hours of run time. While I haven’t had the time to test these claims to the fullest, my experience with multiple Norelco products in the past would leave me to feel pretty trustworthy about these claims. This model does not have multiple power modes, so the variance between two full charging cycles shouldn’t be dramatically different.BUILD & COMFORT:The trimmer itself has a firm, stainless steel body. It is easy to grip, and I never had a worry about it falling out of my hands. The attachments are made of plastic, but they are rugged, durable and comfortable when touching the skin. The last thing you want is to have a piece of plastic with textures that cause skin irritations, and I never felt that way about the materials used on the Multigroom 9000.Clipping the guards/combs onto the trimming heads required a bit of observation to see where everything clicked and to understand which guards/combs were made for which heads. But once I got the hang of that, clipping them on became easy, and removing them was also quite easy.I really recommend consulting the manual before you operate the Multigroom 9000. While it may look intimidating at first, in the end it’ll help make sure you get a proper trim.NOTES:For whatever reason, the adjustable comb for this model only goes up to 7mm beard length. Which means if you like to have a thicker beard beyond 7mm in length, you will want to look at the MG9520 variant of this product as that model supports adjustable beard guards from lengths 9mm - 13mm and 16mm - 20mm. You can also try using the wide hair guards.I went on to Philips’ Encompass portal and searched for the MG9520 to find that none of the larger adjustable combs were available for purchase since I know it would be interoperable with the MG9510 since it shares the same design. Only the 3mm to 7mm adjustable comb was available for purchase. So if for some reason you end up losing or breaking one of these larger combs, you will be unable to obtain a replacement via the Encompass portal at the time of writing this review.BODY HAIR:Given that this is a multigroom kit, the expectation should be that the trimmer can be used for all parts of the body. In my testing, each trimming head was effective for its designated task. I never ran into the trimmer heads snagging my hair while shaving so it’s a comfortable trim/shave overall. This is especially important if you have sensitive skin. I didn’t incur any rashes or redness during my shave, which was a pleasant surprise coming from my older Norelco where it was more typical to experience a little bit of irritation.FACIAL HAIR:The adjustable comb helped improve my consistency while shaving, so it’s unfortunate I didn’t have the larger comb since I would have liked my beard to be thicker. But for someone who is happy with the options presented to you in this package, you can get a nice trim as well as clean up unwanted hairs around your cheeks using the precision shaver. That way, you can achieve a clean look with well-defined lines.NOSE HAIR:Compared to my previous trimmer, I think I prefer this omni-directional style of nose hair trimmer more. I feel as though I can more easily tell that it’s effective, and overall I experience less discomfort compared to trimmers that are not omni-directional. I’ve used this style of trimmer on the very first Norelco trimmer I ever bought, and I’m happy to have it back on the MG9510.SCALP HAIR:Unfortunately, I don’t typically trim my own scalp, so I haven’t been able to test this trimmer for that purpose. I’m sure someone else may provide better insight if that’s of greater concern to you.CONCLUSION:Overall, I think Philips has continued to create a good product under their Norelco line of multi groomers. Although I’m not entirely sure why they have opted to exclude the longer adjustable combs in the MG9510 so that they can create the MG9520 model. I would really like to see Philips provide the ability to purchase those additional combs separately for those who purchased an MG9510 but decide down the road that they would like to try for a thicker beard. So if you’re interested in maintaining a thicker beard, I’d suggest the MG9520, but for those who need a closer shave on the beard or care more about trimming other hair, I think the MG9510 is a solid offering on the market.
With this one trimmer, I can almost replace the three different trimmers I was using. Grooming tools today need to satisfy a range range of use cases, everything from trimming beard hair and eyebrows to edging around ears or necklines and grooming body hair in various nooks and crannies. Due to that wide variety of use cases, I was employing three different trimmers, each of which was optimized for one or two of those uses. This one has a few different attachments that can help optimize its function toward specific uses. It also has different guards that clip on those attachments to leave the right length of hair behind. There are two different multi-length guards for the medium-sized clippers, which IMO are optimized for trimming facial hair. I only need to use the ... It also has different guards that clip on those attachments to leave the right length of hair behind. There are two different multi-length guards for the medium-sized clippers, which IMO are optimized for trimming facial hair. I only need to use the longer one, but I can imagine that if you kept your facial hair closer to stubble-length, you might use the shorter one. The teeth (or comb) on the guard are more closely spaced, making it much more comfortable than my last beard trimmer. It also does a better job of lifting the hair into the clippers, meaning it requires fewer passes over the same area to ensure an even length. This trimmer is also much more effective at trimming moustache hair. This would almost be worth using just for that improvement alone. The different clippers are fairly easy to snap on and off, which also makes it easier to clean the clippers. There are no hidden areas for hair trimmings to collect, and no tools required to get to those areas for cleaning. Neither is there any oiling required. All-in-all, this is a great tool for grooming hair to various lengths in varying places.
This trimmer has a ton of accessories and it is everything that I was looking for in a beard/hair trimmer. The caveat is that there's no charging brick. So you spend $100 on a trimmer and the manufacturer can't put in a .50 cent solution to the product. So now the consumer has to go digging to find and repurpose a charging brick. The trimmer itself deserves 5 stars, just to be clear, but these companies need to know that this is not okay.If there was a proprietary charging cable with this and they just snipped the plug off at the end everyone would be up in arms, but because it's USB this is magically acceptable. It was fine to stop putting the bricks in with things for about 2 years so that everyone could catch up, but now everyone has caught up and there aren't ... It was fine to stop putting the bricks in with things for about 2 years so that everyone could catch up, but now everyone has caught up and there aren't extras laying around the house and when you open up a brand new package at home and realize that you don't have a charging brick for it and now you have to drive 40 miles back to the store to pick one up that's just ridiculous. I spent more money on gas picking this up than what the brick is worth
