I take care of them so in 2 months, no issues yet, but I can see how rougher men that lack patience and dexterity would break them. They should be more solidly built to avoid that, simple! The price allows for higher quality guards.I've washed it each time after using it, no issues so far. Works great.Battery life is long, like all other Philips trimmers. Multigroom last longer but this is long enough.

My previous Philips trimmer had a simple beard trimmer that was adjustable or could be removed. But the battery died - which is why I chose this one, it contains 3 different beard trimmer heads, but is still adjustable within each head range. Sounds great.However, these trimmer heads now all feature guide fingers ahead of the cutting head and the usual trailing fingers after the head.These leading fingers are the source of my confusion & dissatisfaction with the product in that they seem to push my beard hair out of the way, so that it doesn't get cut by the trimmer, and, and hair that does get cut get trapped inside the trimmer attachment between the leading and trailing fingers. Fortunately, the operation of the unit is pretty self-explanatory. The package states that the 5500 provides a one-pass even trim, which is something that I was excited to try. My previous trimmer had me going back over areas trying to get an even trim, to the point of rubbing your face raw! After attaching the beard guard and adjusting the height to my desired level, I went in for my first trim. I found the action of the trimmer to be very smooth and the guard did a fantastic job of providing for an even trim on the first pass! I do have to say that I really just guessed on the height adjustment, hoping that a number 5 on this unit was nearly the same as a number 5 on my previous unit, which I am happy to say was the case. After a complete trim, I removed the guard to do some edging. This is one area where I was a little disappointed in the 5500. With the full width trimmer blade, I found it a little difficult to trim comfortably above my lip. My previous trimmer had a separate blade for this that did not require removing the guard, which I miss. However, the 5500 did reasonably well at trimming in this area. I may just need a couple more times to get used to it. Adding a separate blade for edging may be the only improvement that I could recommend for the 5500. Overall, I have to say that I am impressed with the smooth operation and the one-pass cut offered by the 5500. My favorite feature may be the shape of the beard guard which does a very good job at lifting the hairs, providing for an even cut.

I purchased this trimmer because my old trimmer was also a Norelco (Philips) trimmer. It was a vacuum trimmer. After 10+ years, the battery gave out. I liked the vacuum feature but there were few offered when I made this purchase. Also, they were out of my price range. So far this trimmer has been great. Lots of battery life and it does a great trimming job. I particularly like the various trimming height feature. Perfect for what I am looking for.

The precision trimmer has been a godsend for my goatee in particular. It’s easy to use, wet or dry and can cut into very precise areas allowing me to style it well. The guard for the beard trimmer works well picking up the hairs on my goatee and setting it to the correct length couldn’t be simpler with the dial on the handle. I wear it shorter on my top lip and longer underneath. The settings have coped with this brilliantly. As far as my hair goes, it shaves really close and doesn’t pull at all as the hairs are lifted up by the guard. Philips has no influence on my rating, and I will do my best do give an honest and unbiased review.The trimmer comes with a charger, two head hair cutting attachments a beard and precision trimmer, the attachments are very easy to change and the with the handy adjustment wheel which has a light up display lets you select your precise setting. A brush for cleaning, and a handy bag to keep everything together is also included. The trimmer itself is light and the body is curved which makes it easier to handle especially whilst trimming around the face. The self-sharpening blade cuts well, without plucking. its 100% waterproof and can be cleaned easily buy rinsing under the tap. The Li-ion battery only takes an hour to charge and gives 120 min runtime, even if you forget to charge you can use it plugged in, I have been using the trimmer 4 to 5 times a week and have only needed to charge it once a week. Overall, I have found the beard and hair trimmer well designed and versatile and would certainly recommend it.
