A Quality Unit With a Few Too Many Flaws

This is a well built unit that cooks very well, however, we found a few things that were a drawback. The mesh in the bottom of the food basket was difficult to clean. Food would embed in the delicate screen, especially cheese, which was tough to remove. The unit does not pause when you pull the basket out while cooking is in progress. The temperature dial was stiff to turn for those of us with arthritic hands. Mostly, the the biggest drawback was the capacity of the cooking basket which was just too small compared to another air fryer we had. So although the food cooked well and was lovely and crisp, there were too many minuses for us to keep this unit.

It is great for heating up croissants for breakfast or individual fruit pies for pudding (warm and crisp in mere minutes); it cooks frozen foods such as fish fingers in less time than the grill; I can make delicious fresh chips in far less time, with a fraction of the oil, and less mess or smell than in the conventional oven. I haven't bought frozen chips since buying this machine, freeing up room in the freezer for other homemade meal portions. The only down-side is that the basket can be a little tricky to clean as oil gets into every crevice, but the benefits far outweigh this small inconvenience.

To begin, this air fryer is extremely easy to use and to keep clean. It will heat food that you put into the air fryer. I’ve only heated store bought frozen hash browns and tater totts.I was expecting near perfect deep fried potatoes and was disappointed to find them soft and slightly damp. They were too hot to just pop into my mouth but not crispy the way one expects from a deep fryer. The concept is great and is probably much healthier than soaking up gallons of deep fryer oil. I love the ease of use and the easy clean up.I have mixed emotions concerning this product. It’s easier and better quality to use my electric oven broiler feature to make crispy potato foods. Also, I can broil many times the quantity of food all at once in my oven.I can only air fry ... MoreTo begin, this air fryer is extremely easy to use and to keep clean. Exciting and Delicious
11 August 2018

I love my Philips air-fryer. It makes truly crispy foods, with little or no fats. What an amazing invention. I am excited to cook with it because I had avoided fried foods for many years now, in order to gain my health and lose weight. After maintaining a 200-pound weight lose for going on 25 years, fried foods were just not things I ate. But no more! I have made onion rings, fried squash blossoms, super crispy French fries, fish sandwiches, and cannot wait to discover other new recipes. I love it so much I bought a second one for our vacation home. Even my skeptical wife, worried about it taking up valuable counter space, loves this air-fryer. Do yourself a favor and get one. And get a Philips, not some off-brand inferior knock-off kind. I can’t recommend it more.

Happy with my extra large capacity air fryer
11 February 2024

The airfryer works perfectly and large enough for my family. I am really happy with it. The problem though was when i recieved the airfryer and the deliver guy only came with one airfryer instead of two. We were able to resolve the issue by turning back the airfryer and he returned the next day with both of the airfryers and i was very happy.

Recipe App and Instructions are Awful
25 May 2019

Downloaded the Philips recipe app as instructions noted. Some recipes were incomplete. Called Philips. Was told there was nothing they could do...it was the marketing dept. I tried a recipe. Couldn't set product on degree in the recipe. Product only moved every 30 degrees. Called Philips again, they said all fryers like that. I said if instructions said to set at 200 degrees and your product can't be set at 200 degrees that should be noted somewhere. They again said it was Marketing Dept. I tried cooking recipe at 200 degrees. Took twice as long to cook as recipe said. I tried same recipe from other product and it said to set at 400 degrees and it worked. Instructions from Philips are poor, cooking basket too small and recipes are not accurate. Philips needs to fix ... MoreDownloaded the Philips recipe app as instructions noted. I took it back and got a different manufactured product and it works great. Hard for me to believe that a company as big as Philips puts out inadequate instructions and recipes! Oh, when I called the second time to complain, I got the electric shaver dept. I was told that the number goes to all departments and they randomly answer them. Awful!

Terrible quality Air Fryer
2 April 2024

We bought on the 7th of December an 8L Smart Air Fryer With Digital Touch and Stylish Design-JD689N - EU plug with adapter included and now after the warranty has expired now the inside of the basket is flaking. We only use a soft sponge with soapy water to wash it. It is terrible quality as we truly expected it to be non-stick quality. We are not at all happy. Will never buy any appliances from Makro online again.

This has been a 5 star air fryer all the way!!!
26 September 2021

I bought this Air Fryer in 2012 from HSN. I don’t even think these were available in store at that time, I’m not sure. I have used this thing for ELEVEN years with zero problems. It is the only appliance that I keep on my counter and use all the time. In recent years, now there are so many shiny new air fryers that catch my attention and I want to upgrade soon and pass this one to my college daughter. I really just decided tonight that I will be purchasing another Philips Air Fryer. I don’t care about all the frills of others, because I haven’t ever been able to write a review about a product that I have used nor loved as much. Mine still looks so good, the basket around the edges is worn but that about it. I just wanted anyone looking at these reviews to read a ... MoreI bought this Air Fryer in 2012 from HSN. Very impressed! Faster cooking, easier cleanup, same taste with no oil!
9 January 2018

I got this as a Christmas present from my mother-in-law, I love to cook and would consider myself a good chef. I tried something simple first time in the air fryer- frozen French fries, they cooked perfectly and in less than half of the normal time in the oven! I was very impressed. I then cooked Marinated chicken satay from a recipe in the book that came with it and they turned out great! But the real test for me was something that I normally would fry in oil- fried chicken.. I did a boneless, skinless chicken tender in full batter that I dipped in egg then batter then "air fried" it turned out excellent!! It was absolutely the same but minus all the oil. It was crispy, juicy and the breading didn't leak through the basket or anything, I am sold on the Philips air ... MoreI got this as a Christmas present from my mother-in-law, I love to cook and would consider myself a good chef. Super easy clean up, I always line the bottom basket with foil and it makes cleanup even easier. Basket it big enough to feed a family of 4 in one or two batches. Overall Great product!

What a healthy time saver! I love my air fryer!
21 May 2019

I love this thing - I used to cook in a toaster oven since there are only two of us, but I love the air fryer. Makes the best chicken wings - I do precook them a bit in the regular oven (especially frozen wings) but finish in the air fryer. They stay moist and nice and crispy on the outside. I use the air fryer at least 3 times a week. Even meatloaf is the best! The recipe book that comes with this model is awesome! I also purchased the rack and pan to go with the fryer - a great investment. Even though the bottom coating is flaking off (I hand wash do not put in dishwasher) it doesn't come near the food and is not dangerous per customer support. Highly recommend purchasing this air fryer. Perfect size for 2 people.
