Pirastro Tonica Violin String Set 4/4
Tonica strings have a core made from nylon. They produce a lively well-rounded sound, perfectly balanced across all four strings. Responding instantly to any bowing style, they reward both player and listener with an open and direct sound. With substantially reduced background 'hiss', players can sustain a more even tone helping to achieve smoother string crossings. With a highly responsive left hand feel, Tonica strings remain very easy to play all the way up to the highest positions. Projection and brilliance have been upgraded. However, this excess does not mean that the Tonica has lost its warmth. Playing pianissimo has considerably improved. All bow strokes are possible resulting in smooth crossings from one note to another. Easy right hand articulation and tone attack. Due to their medium string tension Tonica strings are suitable for all instruments. Insensitive to variations in temperature and humidity Set The standard set contains: E-Silvery Steel, A-aluminum, D- and G-silver.

Order was as expected. Thank you for carrying this line of strings from Pirastro as they are not easy to find. I would recommend also carrying the Pirastro Tonica Rosin to complement them as my violin sound improves when I use the matching rosin.

I have tried Evahs, Zyex, and Helicore for my stubborn violin. The Tonicas were the solution!!!The stay in tune, no buzzing, nice projection, and a nice sweet sound on the upper A. I am thrilled! I've loved everything from Fiddlerman!!

Maybe it's because I'm a beginner and my teacher has me really wailing on the strings, using all the arm weight to get the "core tone" -- but I've unraveled two of these already. I'm going to Dominants now in my search for a synthetic string that doesn't lose it's windings in less than 2 weeks. Tone-wise these are good, but keep in mind I'm a newb and ignorant of all the nuance and subtleties to look for.
After watching a couple reviews on YouTube (linked below) I decided to try these Tonicas, and they lived up to my expectations! These strings are fairly neutral in sound, and feel low-tension to play. They are my first synthetic strings, and I'm really pleased with the sound-quality on my student instrument. They settled within a few days, and now hold their pitch really well. I plan to stick with these strings until I upgrade to a better violin.
I purchased this set for my son's violin. For the price and his practice regimen, (Needs daily reminders), this is a good deal. Four stars because they do not sound like the more expensive strings, (obviously).
I was using Preludes on my student violin, which seem to last forever, but after a a while, it's best for the instrument and the player to change them. Hard to beat the price of steel, but I decided to try synthetics as an upgrade, and these strings have a light smooth balanced sound and easy on the fingers. They are also very nicely priced compared to most synthetics. Break in was 2 or 3 days, and by the time a week past, they were stable and sounding good. Not sure how much of that was me acclimating to them. It will be interesting to see how long they last, because even though I like their sound and feel more than steel, they are some bucks past double the price. Some won't feel like spending over $20 more for a set of these if they end up preferring the sound ... Fiddlershop is great! I switched to Tonicas on a whim, boy was I surprised. On my 200 year old violin its voice became so warm and projected through the whole church without amplification sounding over the accompanying piano. I played the first set over a year, before the A string began to unwind. Bought another set and extra A’s. Sound was so good, I don’t mind the unwinding of the A after over a year of almost daily playing. I play in a community orchestra and weekly in a church group.
I've used these for a couple of years now and they are similar to dominants, but a little more plain. That doesnt mean they dont sound great. In my string quartet I play Violin II and I can say for sure that they let me project enough to compete with the other instruments. I find they sound good on brighter instruments.
These are not Tonica strings. Look at the string color wrappings on the ball end, they are solid red. AUTHENTIC Tonicas are always red and white wrappings On the G,D,A strings and E string is tightly wrapped solid red. Google violin string identification chart and you will see wrapping colors of all major violin strings.
