The 250GB PNY CS900 internal SSD benefits beginners who haven't already upgraded their SATA drives. Although it's not the highest capacity, it's enough to retain a decent amount of sizable content that consumers may want or need elsewhere. It's immediately noticeable how lightweight it is after it's been removed from its packaging. But only knowing its true capabilities happens after actually installing or transferring content. Some newcomers may not understand or notice the differences with other SATA drives but for those familiar it really shows if they're patient enough. But remain forewarned that it's easily fillable and likely wouldn't be the most appropriate for those wanting more out of their drive. However, to those seeking either an additional or new ... A nothing fancy SSD for a nothing fancy laptop. I've used these low-end PNYs in other devices, all still working fine. The MTBF and TBW ratings are more than adequate, the performance increases over a traditional hard drive are very significant. Reboots windows in under 20 seconds, woot! Also kudos to Macrium reflect free version. With it, a blank dvd for boot media, and a USB 3.0 flash drive to hold the drive image, the swap took about 90 minutes -- most of which was spent "carefully" cracking open the laptop.Boo Lenovo! 13 screws and I still had to pry/pop it open! Why???

I've got no complaints with this SSD, particularly when it's on sale. SATA may be a little old these days, and I'd never use it as a boot drive by choice, but I have noticed that it is very good at making older laptops at least usable. I think I've bought three of these things by now, all for laptops being used by family and friends. The sudden speed increase makes them happy, and nobody ends up complaining about the $30 price tag in the process. While you could get an SSD from eBay for cheaper, those are all sketchy off-brands; so I think this is one of the best ones I've found so far for a balance between between "cheap" and "If this breaks, I could get it warrantied easily". So, I'd recommend it for sure if you're sticking this in a computer you care about.

While restoring an old pc for my dad, I needed to upgrade the boot drive. I couldn't use an m.2 due to the older motherboard on that computer, so I got this drive instead. Definitely loads into windows faster than the old hard drive it came with- just had to use an adapter to put into a standard 3.5 inch drive slot, plug it in, and install a modern os. Bought for a pretty good price too, yet still a great value even at normal price compared to the bigger names like Samsung. For computers that don't have an m.2 slot I would highly recommend this drive. Just remember to pick up an adapter if you're upgrading a desktop, which are easily found right here at Best Buy. Unless you're making a solitary drive build, 500 gb is plenty!
I'm putting down 1 star to offset all the "incentivized reviews" that put such high rating on this device. PNY is a so-so brand name, but the real danger is mistaking SSD reliability for HDD reliability. SSDs are definitely faster, buy HDDs are definitely more reliable. I do data recover, and 99.9% of the time can rescue HDD drive, but a good portion (?%) of time SSDs that are corrupted are irretrievable entirely. It all has to do with how data is written onto HDDs versus how it is written onto SSDs. SSDs rely too much on electronics in series and dies with a spark of electricity. HDDs might die with a drop or electric shock, but data on drive can still be recovered with special techniques. This device compares reasonably with all the other SSDs out there -- it ... HDDs might die with a drop or electric shock, but data on drive can still be recovered with special techniques. This device compares reasonably with all the other SSDs out there -- it should not get a high rating simply because it is an SSD and not an HDD. ALL SSDs are faster than HDDs. Compare apples with apples, not race cars with toyotas. It is nice it has a USB cable included. The software download however implies your computer is still running well with the old drive and that you have Internet to download it. It is NOT in the box, nor on the drive. If you do a clone, it will clone your entire old drive provided your drive size matches the original -- be sure to buy the correct size drive. If you are trying to use the drive for data or fresh installation, you'll have to partition and format it manually or let the installation media do it for you. This is not something most people do everyday and may find much technical difficulty if done incorrectly.Realistically, comparing this SSD kit with other SSDs found elsewhere, I'd say it is about a 3 star overall in terms of quality, ease of use, weight. And again this has NOTHING to do with comparing it to HDDs - not a fair comparison.

I needed a new drive as I use a Crucial P5 for my boot drive which only has 512gbs (still an amazing drive and recommend the p5 on sale) and my 2tb barracuda was also full. The PNY drive has an average of 535 MB/s so its nothing to write home about compared to nvme ssd's.But MAN does it do its job so well. I'm able to copy and download files to it with ease. In GTA 5 I am able to load into single player at half the time it takes my hard drive to. Battlefields 4 and 1 load in at around 40 seconds, compared to the 3 MINUTES my hard drive would give me. Siege I moved from my m.2 to it and I still load into matches faster. Call of Duty warzone got rid of annoying texture pop-in/degradation on the SSD and Forza Horizon 5 is able to run textures at ultra settings. So ...
