Profoto OCF Softgrid 2' Octa
You can attach an optional Softgrid on your OCF Softbox to reduce the light spread to 50. The softgrid creates a more directed light and eliminates a large amount of spill light, allowing you to shape the light with even more precision. Important to note: Only recommended for Profoto off-camera flashes with LED modeling light; B1X, B2 and the former B1. May not be used with D1 and D2 monolights or standard heads.

The Profoto OCF softgrid for my 2' octa does a good job of controlling the spread from the front diffusion surface. It keeps the backlight and kicker from giving a potentially flaring hit to the lens. When used as a key or fill it creates a visible vignette, narrowing the spread by about half while maintaining full power in the center. Construction is solid, with the attachment edge wraps the lip of the octa both inside and out, ensuring a leak free interface.

By all accounts, it's a good little softbox but I'm not as thrilled with it as I'd hoped. I have two of the OCF 1X3 softboxes and just love them! I figured this would be just as nice. It's not really lacking but, it's hard to explain, but it's not as nice as the 1x3's which are the only other OCF softboxes I've ever owned. Many people have complained that the tips of the rods are lacking. I haven't seen that. Perhaps they had fixed the issue by the time I bought mine.

As always, Profoto gets things right. This is easy to use, set-up, tear down. Number one down fall, be careful with this one. Its not build in the same indestructible manner as they other soft boxes!

This is a wonderful addition to the Profoto line. It is light and portable and works great with the B1. It is very easy to put together and build quality seems quite good. It works very well with the new OCF speed ring. The quality of light is very good when the subject is close. Obviously, the small size make it best suited for lighting 1-3 people from a relatively close distance.
On one hand the light quality is superb as you come to expect from Profoto. On the other, the craftsmanship is not there. After a few usages, the rods started perforating the end canvas of the Octa Softbox and you end up with gaffer tape or duct tape to try to hold together, until eventually it is gone. If you leave it assembled for a few days in order not to assemble-dissasemble at the end of each day, the rods will bend and remain curved. At this price, I believe they should change this.I've been a Profoto user since 2014 and never had a problem with anything before and I still have and use my softboxes, umbrellas, from my initial purchase.
I bought this soft box on September 19, 2019 and already the frame rods that support the shape of the box have worn through the end of their channels.I have a softbox from 15 years ago and it's still going strong. Did not have the problem that I've had with the Profoto. I've owned Profoto flash heads for years, but never spent the money for a softbox until now. BIG MISTAKE!!!
Junk. Impossible to Assemble. Very Cheap Plastic.Have on 3 occasions since buying spent more than 30 minutes trying to assemble. Impossible. There is no click like they show in the videos, I can get all of the rods loosely inserted, but they just fall out. Aggressively bending the rods to basically 90-degrees, I can get 5 rods in, then it's so tight that its truly not possible to do more. Very deceived. Plastic is cheap and falls off rings when you're on your knees fighting the rods to be inserted. Avoid. Should have gone with Broncolor all the way.
Used the soft box on a senior portrait shoot in Memphis. Gorgeous images!!! The quality of light combined with the B1 ALMOST justifies the price of BOTH the soft box and the speed ring. I deducted a star due to the extra expense for the speed ring. That almost caused me to bypass the purchase. Glad I didnt now. Just ordered another set for my other B1
I bought this soft box just in case I needed it in an emergency. I have a 36 Wescott Octa box and a 39 Elinchrom Octa. I thought I would not use it as much but it turns out I've used it on several occasions including 4 weddings. I lit a groups of 26 family members with this soft box and a speedlite. I did not bring my profoto B1 to that event.
